#Petition for Airdrop Rewards to be stopped for Open Beta

The airdrop is a net negative to Illuvium. It’s creating artificial playing numbers with ‘airdrop vultures’ who will be off to the next game as soon as another game offers up larger rewards.

You can already see the negative sentiment in this channel from airdrop hunters who have played a lot of hours and now feel entitled to larger rewards.

Linking an extrinsic motivator like money to play time just focused people on the money, not the game, and as soon as their monetary expectations are not met, or you don’t continue to increase rewards, they will be gone. How is this helping us build a sustainable ecosystem long term? And every token we provide to those airdrop vultures is another that will be sold on the market, diluting token holders.

It’s also taken a community that have followed the game for 2-3 years and turned a portion of them into playing for money, not for fun.

let's be realistic. how do you define "fun"? hours spent/week playing a game? if so, is overworld fun? i think for most people, they would say there's no goals, nothing to really do after capturing your illuvials aside from arena.

i can definitely see some people finding arena fun but i'd imagine the statistics show it's not fun for most.

if you're worried about token dilution, which is probably what most holders are scared about, there's not going to be much impact if any on the price. 20k ILV prize pool which is about 0.24% of total supply. if you decide to sell immediately, you lose 50% of your ILV. assuming worst case scenario, 0.12% of total supply is sold which will barely affect the market at all. if anything, the sentiment that "airdrop vultures are going to dump on us" will cause more damage than the actual selling from airdrop farmers.

does our "loyal community" play the game as much as the farmers?

#

bottom line we need to generate at least $6m+ per month
and we need DAU

#

airdrop is good to get traction.
i see the huge size of the airdrop as a make it or break it moment

Look up extrinsic vs intrinsic motivation

#

That’s why for me the airdrop is so dangerous - because we’ve also taken people who were just playing the game for fun and had been part of the community for 2-3 years and have re-focused their reasons for playing on money and not the inherent fun of capturing all the illuvials and taking them into the arena

#

If you want to bring in new people - do a refer a friend where they get some fuel to start playing the game

The technology of web 3 allows you to architect a game with certain features in a much better way than you could without it - it’s the blockchain tech that’s important.

  • Better marketplace
  • Better interoperability of assets in the same ecosystem (think Pokémon bank but so much better)
  • Better and more transparent gaming analytics
  • Transparent provenance of in game items.
#

It doesn’t work for every game but it’s perfect for Illuvium.

It’s not about people earning per se, albeit NFT ‘ownership’ allows people to cash out in the same way as Pokémon cards did if you got a good one - but that’s not the be all and end all of what this tech gives us. And if we let it take over, we all lose

#

Remember that players can earn money in web 2 games - they just sell their accounts illegally to other gamers.

Web 3 just makes this easier

#

Or there’s a marketplace in game but the functionality is much worse than if it was done via blockchain tech

for pokemon cards, people open packs to get rares which is an opportunity to make money. i'm making the same argument for illuvium. there needs to be a proper economy/market for players to make money (also lose money). this has nothing to do with the airdrop. the airdrop is simply to get eyes on your project + test your game in this case.

#

the game requires you to buy fuel to play. their intention is to architect a whole ecosystem around money

what we really need is OW end game

#

whatever they create, there has to be a large sink for illuvials so that it's not a race for who can catch rares before everything reaches $0

chrome shuttle
#

afaik owning illuvials is only for costmetic in the gauntlet

chrome shuttle
#

but unsure its coming in a month

nope

#

need OW to be multiplayer.
if its arena only, u cant really see the ranger next to the illuvials

#

what i want is illuvials skins

#

imo there needs to be a core game mechanic that requires burning of illuvials. this will create a proper sink so that illuvials don't all go to 0.

chrome shuttle
#

burn illuvials for what? XP candy?

#

the notion is that due to the bonding curve, one day the Gen 1 will be harder to catch/extinct

#

and we will have Gen 2, and so on

obviously there's probably more coming to the overworld, but that's probably way down the line. not going to be in time for launch

inland scarab
#

can't see masses of players spending thousands of dollars to get the best illuvials for future games tbh

#

I expect people will want to catch their own and take them in - demand for rares will come mostly from collectors

I would like to agree but I can't. I sort of feel like the old guy at a dive bar of a shitty town that has hords of young people moving in wrecking the old way. These airdrop vultures are sad, I feel bad because I have played the game with all good intentions. But then you have the holo only accounts and it's kinda sad. But I don't want to be the old guy in the corner remember what it meant to do it the "right way". Turns out I just didn't game the system as good as these bots.
