#Reimagine master shards

I'd like to propose a different look at master shards. I'd like to draw comparisson with pity timers in other games. Example: Hearthstone is guaranteed to give you at least 1 legendary card in 40 packs.

Here's what I have in mind.

  1. Master shards are not tradable. So not NFTs or non-tranferable NFTs.
  2. Master shards have tiers. A master shard can only capture an illuvial that is equal or bellow its tier.
  3. You get a master shard of a specific tier after failing to capture 100(subject to change) illuvials of that tier using a shard that's that tier or above.

What this accomplishes:

  • It prevents farming of shard by intentionally using lower tier shards on illuvials.
  • It adds a pity timer that's not gameable.
  • Breaking 100(still subject to change) T5 shards should not be cause to concern in giving a single T5 master shard. You're basically buying it at that point.

P.S. Master shards in their current form totaly elliminate the bonding curve.

I propose that the higher the tier the shard when it fails it should make shard dust that can be used to forge a master shard. Master shards should not be 100 percent success rate. I think 90 percent max would still create the tense moments of anticipation.

Here's another reason why having access to current version of master shards is bad.

The shard dusts are already non-tradable, you can only trade the Master Shard. If the shard cost is really high (like 1000x shard dust) I don't see a problem with them.

I like this. Maybe instead of obtaining them after a failed capture, they can be given after a certain amount of ow runs or fuel spent. Can be a weekly/monthly quest. They should be removed from the forge.

A master shard will then still be tied to OW play time, just different mechanism.

Changing mastershards mechanics without changing other shards catch odds is not the way imo

If you can trade the end result then it's irrelevant if the dust is not tradeable. The shard cost is not something that can be controlled if people sell it. They can farm master shards in S1 runs and then used them on S3 runs. This way master shards will work out of proportion. I really think we need 5 tiers of master shards. So that if you want to farm for something that catches rhamphyre 100% of the time, you have to go into S3 runs and use T5 shards.

I don't get why it's a problem to get a master shard farming T1 shards

This is just a formula. You can create a master shard by using x T1 shards, y T2 shards and so on. Which means the shards will just be broken up for a master shard without having to spend the travel money and missed opportunity of not capturing something.

#

Having too easy access to master shards totaly elliminates bonding curves, rarity and other shard capture rates. Even devalues capture chance chips.

# last rock yes and that is not a problem at all since it deflates the shard supply. This is...

Or it can be however many T4/T3/T2/T1 shards or a mix of them. And I can argue that the value of shards will not be what you can catch with them, but how much of them you need for a master shard. Because in just a limited time, the most sought after stuff will need a master shard.

There is no need to have shard deflation. We already have Hyperion. People will just not cure shards if they are too cheap.

I think we should ask ourselves what percentage of T5 illuvials we want caught with master shards. At this rate I think more than 50% will be caught like this.
This totaly reduces their rarity/value.
