#IIP-XX Automated Drone Trips for Resource Gathering

Simple Summary:
The proposal advocates for the integration of Drone Trips into the Illuvium Overworld, enabling players to dispatch their drones, accompanied by a team of Illuvials for defense, on automated missions for mining rocks and harvesting plants. These missions would yield random outcomes, and their effectiveness would be based on the drone’s progression system, the illuvials defending the drone and the region’s stage. Illuvial hunting wouldn’t be included in the Drone Trips to ensure the integrity of Illuvium’s game economy. An IIP would be required for this feature to be implemented in the future.

I will say that as an intent I disagree with this proposal, I don't think the game needs to be automated as much as possible, imo it takes away from the fun of the game. That being said I do think this could help us reach the mobile audience which is good for the ILV company and investors so with proper checks still willing to find a way.

In the end, and in my opinion, speed runs shouldn't be the go-to optionfor players. After all we want them to play the game that has been built. And long term I personally would love to see a lite version of Overworld on mobile, but in the mean time there should be a way to capture both the interest and money of mobile players.

The speed run should be there for those on mobile who have no other way to participate, and those who don't want to spend the time playing Overworld when maybe they would rather spend time in a different Illuvial game like Arena or IlluviKart. But maybe still want to craft their own equipment.

I had a longer conversation with @last bronze about the entire proposal but wanted to place a few thoughts here so it wasn't all behind closed doors and I am not always the best on sharing my feedback publicly. 😅

Don't ping so many people at once @last bronze and the bot won't mute you

Oh and thanks @carmine marsh Atlas_Love

Could it be as simple as making a chip for the drone that when installed allows the drone to do such tasks? That way it is optional, takes time in OW runs to find and use resources to construct the chip and level up the chip.

#

It's definitely something I would use the drone for.

#

Currently I have an issue with how few slots there are for drones. 3 is definitely not enough and I hope that changes for OB.

Love the idea!

I'm not fundamentally opposed to passive asset acquisition provided players have to pay fuel costs. In that instance, allowing support to get some consumables, mine, etc. could be a good fit. I do wonder at the ability here to essentially just straight bot the hell out of gathering though. This basically completely eliminates player responsibility to go gather in the world as it's simple to just create a massive drone/bot farm to reduce price to lowest common denominator for all assets other than Illuvials in game. Maybe that's ok but I do have concerns if that eliminates a major component of gameplay that makes the product sticky. This is similar to the concern @long mason voiced above. Illuvials should ALWAYS have preeminence but this feels like everything else could just become 'vendor trash'.

Eventually people will be tired of manually going out and shooting plants and rocks so having a expedition option for your drone/drones where they can go out and spend 4/8/12/24 hours acquiring resources should be reasonable. And ofc besides t0 stuff it would cost fuel. This helps people keep up when they don’t have extra time to waste on resource gathering and helps keep them in the meat of the gameplay loops having fun when they can get on.

This proposal was made before the PB4 launch and before players could shoot to gather. I think the nature of gathering has changed substantially, making it much more fun and engaging. If players get tired of gathering, the free market will handle that naturally. With a decrease in supply, prices rise, which leads to an increased incentive to gather due to higher profitability, and the cycle continues.

Fair enough though this would at least be useful for non paid resources and materials

#

Plus realistically if web2 shows up in any sizable number they may not know of or be adverse to using the web3 marketplace and want in game options for quick /non time consuming procurement of resources

#

I also just wrote up an idea/proposal for weapons that could benefit from an afk resource farming option as well

This proposal got voted as revisions needed. What were the revisions made?
And if any revisions were made wouldn't I need to validate them since I'm the proposal's sponsor?

afaik the sponsor need to write the revision based on the feedbacks from imc

#

but now it needs to be a GFP

Illuvium already working on something that wasn't approved by council? does council even have to vote for it on or they can just do it?

for some reason I have a bad feeling about this. Just hope I'm wrong.

#

I did this proposal in a preemptive attempt to avoid 1 click OW runs farming illuvials. But I guess they'll do it anyways.

#

looks like the auto-scan feature wasn't enough... Imagine having to actually play the game to acquire the game assets. Ain't nobody got time for that...

I don't like this idea and here is why: I don't see any good coming from any game that has "automated gameplay". The idea of "Automation" goes against the idea of "Gameplay" because you take agency off the hands of the player, and if the player doesn't have what to do in a game, why would the person play it? So, I prefer we go in the other direction, the direction of more gameplay, more stuff for people to do and give them rewards for it. If the main reason to look for automation is to avoid having something tedious to do, give the player more options to get the resources, for example: 1) Battle 20 times in stage 2 and receive 40 Gallvium; ... 2) Find one "lore-wand-thing" in Crimson Waste and receive 40 Vitality Essence; ... 3) Capture one Holo Illuvial and receive 40 Shard Dust; ... This way the players get more resources doing an activity they want to do, or that it is at least less tedious because the reward is bigger...
