Half-joking, half-serious.

In the same way the JUP protocol had its users receiving WEN meme coin (now $200mn+ market cap) prior to their main token (as an homage to the constant question "wen airdrop"), what if we had an illuvium-themed memecoin distributed mainly or exclusively to the community:

  • Stakers and token-holders (much lower proportion on non-staked tokens)
  • Players
  • Land holders (proportionate to Tier)
  • Illuvium Beyond leaderboard (all participants, not just top 100)

Even if this might not be a realistic or great idea, I thought it would be fun to exchange on what kind of memecoins people can come up with. A few ideas here:

  • DashCoin (the next Dogecoin featuring our cute Dash)
  • Kukka Inu (self-explanatory I guess :))

Kieran mentioned this idea in token chat a couple of days ago, since then a few of us have been exploring the meme market. Matt also came up with thicc token (for tiktaliik) which I think is also hilarious. We certainly have the community for a meme token but it has to happen while these are in meta, so fairly soon if we want it to take off.

His idea was squizz token. What I'm not sure is how much would Illuvium Labs want to do with a meme token. Whether an association with the brand would do good or bad for the IP. If this would be kind of an official meme token (like Jup did) or it would have to come from the community. I would venture to say that the team would not want to waste time and resources on this at this time, in which case it is up to us to create something.

I thought about Squizz too. Makes for a very good and original memecoin candidate 🙂
The question of when and who should do it is fair. There are probably some implications to Illuvium Labs or the DAO launching such a token. But from a branding / IP point of view if there is a clear communication that this is more of a fun endavour for the community with no expected deliverables nor link to the gameplay, then it might work. Could also end up being good marketing for Illuvium and more eyeballs on the project.

I was thinking the same, it could be great for marketing and getting more eyeballs on the project. Basically, we could tap into the meme coin audience which is fairly large. I really like Kukka Inu too, but maybe Kukka Ina would sound even better (if you pronounce it loud 😉 )

Does a meme coin have to have a max supply or can it be a total useless coin that just gets obliterated at a later date? imagine a betting service that allows you to squander the Rox coin. Or some like tipping feature where you just tip 100 Rox to your opponent? XD Or maybe throw them at your opponent for other reasons?
Would be a fun feature imo.

Ok, so I said I will look into this and I did. Many aspects are not that difficult to do, BUT I'm certainly a small fish for providing a liquidity pool for a project of this size so I have to say I'm not gonna create this token (still happy to join in if someone else decides they will do it). Would have been a fun experiment but I have too much of my budget tied in Illuvium already, and I still need to get a new gaming PC 🤷‍♂️

I've been away for a little while. Back with some ideas:

Name: Squizz Wiz Shades or Squizz Wiz Hat (pics below to illustrate the concept)
Ticker: SQUIZZ
Design / logo: to be chosen after a community contest (winner to receive some tokens) maybe helped / supervised by one of Illuvium's fantastic artists?
Network: Ethereum (expensive option and not the best for volumes but has to be it given it's ILV's chain and all community wallets to get the coin are on eth). I guess IMX is not an option either
Characteristics:

  • Immutable (not possible to modify metadata once the token is created)
  • Revoke mint (not able to mint tokens later on)
  • 0.5% burn fee (deflationary mechanic that burns 0.5% of tokens each time they are transacted with on the network)
    Initial Supply: 1,000,000,000
    **Distribution: **
  • 33% to ILV holders subject to a cap per wallet to avoid over-allocating whales (staked tokens have a 2x weighting compared to unstaked)
  • 17% to Land owners (weighting depending on Tier: Tier 1: 1x, Tier 2: 2x, Tier 3: 3x, Tier 4: 4x)
  • 5% to top [500] Beyond players & top [200] arena players
  • 10% to ecosystem partners (e.g. ethlizards & IMX)
  • 5% whitelist and marketing
  • 5% to the Illuvium DAO as a sort of "licensing" fee or donation for using our beloved Squizz
  • 25% for launch liquidity [Any thoughts here on the size of liquidity pool required for something like this? Can we give 5% more to the DAO and have 5% less for liquidity?]

Keen to hear views and limitations.

I like it, but with some remarks:

  1. to create a meme coin not only for the community, to created for everyone, so no airdrops, maybe laters in the main games
  2. to be fear launch, maybe some private sale where collect some money for liquidity and maybe for marketing ( to be separated from ILV)
  3. i like the supply and the burn mechanism
  4. to be some airdrop from main game, for example when you complete some task on main game for example : in overworld make 3 round on Tier1, at arena craft 3 armors, completes some task but to be antibots, some task that needed money investment.
  5. maybe on layer 2 ( polygon ) immutable is perfect but from what i know they don't have a DEX

Thanks for your feedback. Yes, polygon sounds like the next best choice given IMX is seemingly not possible (polygon and immutable x are partners so it should be good).
The idea is to have a memecoin that is inspired by Illuvium but can also appeal to people not familiar with the game/studio, that's why we need to pick a character that can have broad appeal.
You have a point on private sale, it would make funding a liquidity pool easier. But we have to be careful and thoughtful about how money is raised for something like this 🙂

I love the idea as long as it is properly marketed as a useless coin that doesn't do anything so that gamers that come into the ecosystem don't get destroyed if it dumps super hard
