Change the naming of Illuvitars and Illuvials

Over the last year or so I've seen a lot of confusion from our new players/customers over the difference between illuvitars and illuvials.

The similarities in the naming presents a risk to cause negative impacts to positive new player journeys.

I'm throwing out an idea to revisit our naming conventions through the eyes of someone brand new to our universe.

Illuvial Snaps: Just like Pokemon snap, where you take pictures of Pokemon, and the highest score wins. Now you do something similar to that but without the gameplay.
The issue here may arise if we ever want to make an Illuvium Snap game... where you actually take pictures in a museum like gameplay.

The "game" already has a pretty cool unique name "Illuvium: Beyond". Just simply call them what they are as applied to the illuvium ecosystem: Illuvium Profiles. Why even attempt a corny conjunction of two words? Illuvifiles sounds...not great...Also, they aren't even avatars, so illuvitars never made sense.

And ya, Illuvium: Beyond is all about collecting all the possible profiles. That sounds way more practical and apealing to me since it's not trying to be anything else/more.

Pretty much, you don't have to try to be cute with things all the damn time haha

I don't think the naming plays a big part in the confusion, unknowledged people were having and will have until the game is life and illuvials are going to be traded and generate a big portion of the total trading volume.
I think the hasty buy behaviour of web3 fomo people, marketing of illuvitars and the fact that you only can buy illuvitars (besides Land) led to some Newcomers thinking illuvitars are illuvials.

Blaming the naming is kind of like saying we also need a new name to describe a "desert" because it's similar to a "dessert". Doesn't make much sense either. 😄

I do think the name illuvitars is too similar to illuvials. So much so that a graphic has to be made to help people differentiate. I also think a more practical name would be better. But…

Rebranding at this point may hurt more than help. I’m not sure rebranding makes sense now.

While I would prefer a different name I wouldn’t vote to change it now.

I totally understand the confusion from a newbies perspective, but, I'm pretty sure once you've read the infographic once, or some one explains the difference then that person understands.

If you guys are looking to rename illuvitars, should veer away from using "illuvi" cause you'll run through the same confusion that illuvitars experienced.

The whole reason people were confusing them cause they had the same prefix

Thats why we went with Imagials.

It also goes well with "Beyond". As that was chosen to hint at the pfps being outside of the universe. Something like an imaginary place in Illuvium.

Must say, illuvitars still sounds the best. But for ease of onboarding this is probably better until we have a clean and obvious onboarding process.

My take on that is its closer to imagination than images hahaha but thats just me.

Personally, I like illuvitars. I agree better onboarding and information drive.

There's a lot of terms that labs is pushing and as time goes by we tend to get used to it or incorporate it into our vocabulary

I'd say that the source of confusion was the marketing narrative that beyond is a game. So people just assumed the d1sks is needed for the game when they're thinking of overworld and not beyond.

I used to be all day everyday illuvium and I would still type it wrong. or have to think "which one is it again". I don't think it is just me. If it was named something completely different will make some difference.

I think this scenario is very possible:
An influencer on youtube says "Illuvium Arena is super fun, get your self some illuvials, they are a great investment and you get to play the game." You search illuvium see Illuvitars for sale and you purchase a bunch. Get some expensive ones because you think they would be better, maybe even try and make a deck out of illuvitars buying 28 of them.

Sure they should have done more research but we want impulse buyers to stick around, not feel cheated.

There could be too much downstream impact for rename now anyway and the cost may outweigh the benefit.

Providing everyone is aware of how confusing this could be for a newcomer and we have enough process in place to mitigate these risks then thats also a fantastic solution.

I agree. When the masses of newbies arrive it’s to hard to get them to understand the difference. A rename or rebrand now while it’s still possible should be considered.
