Right now when you shoot a encounter you have the option to hold E to scan, or R to fight, that is not smooth, sorry, when we played pokemon we were just running through grass to find encounters, that's the best way illuvium should handle these portals.
The scan could be a toggle on the weapon, so when you shoot it and the toggle is activated, you spend that energy and you get that menu info, but if you run towards the portal and have sufficient energy just let the battle start frictionless. That way the flow of shooting and running remains until you enter the battleboard instance, right now it's clunky and not immersive to stop by around it, let it react to the player presence when going into it
