#Epoch 8 Q & A
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
When will the Epoch 8 Council election process be released?
For those who haven’t been following when do nominations start?
Will there be an effort to advertise the process using Illuviums socials?
Will there be nomination interviews again hosted by the Illuvium+ channel?
The nomination starting announcement will be tonight, it will have all the details and timelines for the nomination periods, elections etc.
The original ICCP had the dates for everything in there so the announcements are setup for those dates will be starting the two week nomination period <t:1681801208:F>
Yes there will be socials posts
The last one I’m not sure, @harsh igloo hosted those I’m fairly sure he said he was going to attempt to do some but with the amount of candidates not sure there is time to accommodate everyone fairly but maybe he’s a wild man and nails it for every single person
I will speak to @rare kayak and attempt to come up with a solution
When are we going to find out who are the candidates? After the nomination period or before?
May I suggest a set of questions to each candidate per nominee and they can just post their answers. Not everyone would want to doxx what they look like and this becomes fair to all than people just watching who theyre familiar or know of
You can tell based on views who are popular and it might skew the perception
Plus the numbers show it might not be worth the effort
These questions have been mentioned in Appendix A under the "Nomination Process" of the Governance V2 Draft Proposal. The interviews would come as an extra:
"...
7. Responses to 5-10 questions that pertain directly to that sub councils required experience/duties. This will be made public during the voting process.
8. (Optional) . A self recorded video 5 minutes or less, or a video interview on governance topics, explaining why people should vote for them.
"
I don't think showing yourself on camera is a requirement for the interviews. For example the interview with @hybrid bluff for the last epoch was done without it.
Questions would be different from the qualifications questions. Could be situational or community questions thats been vetted
Do you mean that the "situational or community questions" are tailored specifically for that nominee?
Nope. Same setup as the video interviews of tsg before. Same set of questions to all candidates but this time they're tailored per sub council. You should be getting situational questions on marketing for marketing candidates etc. Maybe like 2 general questions across all candidates then 3 for specific sub councils
How do you think that would be different from the questions mentioned above (i.e., '7. Responses to 5-10 questions that pertain directly to the required experience/duties of that sub-council.')?
We currently have an idea on how to do this in a fair and balanced way which is being discussed.
I understand that doing individual interviews moving forward is not an efficient and we are working towards a solution that works for us and the community
You sort of answered that. Those questions pertain to experience and duties if you have the expertise for the role while these questions would be to determine if you're fit for what the community wants as a council member for that role
Wouldn't most of those community questions be in line with what the experience/duties questions are about?
I also don't think that a second text form questionnaire would replace the authenticity that a direct talk with the nominees provides.
Not necessarily. Previously, community questions covered things such as "should epoch durations be changed, if required how would they vote on sILV2 being continued and why?"
Community questions most of the time reflect the current state of where we're at as a community
this has been my experience anyway
Fair point! Thanks for the input. Do you have an estimated time for when we can expect information about the new idea that will replace the old interview format?
I'd say by early next week at the latest
No I will post soon, I need to remove some of the personal data collected, when I went to bed no one had submitted still
Where can I find the visual of the Gov. 2.0 ?
This one?
When will the new candidates be added to the epoch 8 candidate channel?
I updated the tabs in doc at the pinned message but will add in channel asap too

Thank you Rich
Apologies if this has already been answered, but what are the current expectations in terms of time commitment of a sub-council member? Should people who have full time jobs rule themselves out of the contest, or is there some degree of flexibility about meeting times?
Sub-councils are free to set their own meeting times (ideally at a time or times that works for all members). Being part of a potentially globally spanning council does mean that you may have to rearrange things sometimes to attend a meeting. From Gov V2:
In my experience this epoch, I've spent anywhere from 5 hours/week to 18.5 hours/week on council related duties, with the average being somewhere around 8-10 hours a week. That includes meetings, research, town halls, drafting, community consultation etc.
That might not be representative of the time requirements to fulfill the role next epoch, as there are many more members to spread the load over (at least in theory).
Update
For those interested, I have organised panel discussions for each of the sub councils this week and will be posting them on the Illuvium+ Youtube channel.
They will not be live discussions but please feel free to drop a question in this thread and make it clear what sub council your question is aimed at. I will be looking through and potentially use some of the questions I see here in these discussions.
I hope these discussions will prove valuable in the upcoming voting period.
I'm interested what every nominee think about Gov V2. Are they happy? Were they giving feedback? What do they think is missing from it and where it can be improved still? What is their favorite change with Gov V2? What in their opinion will be improved now with Gov V2.
Basically I would love to hear Gov V2 questions.
I'm also interested on why someone selected a certain sub-council. Sometimes it's pretty obvious why, but in other cases I'm really interested to hear why.
Do they think there is a better candidate than them in the running? Do they think there are 2-3-4 better candidates?
What does an average day in your life look like?
Marketing:
What is your vision for how Illuvium should be marketed?
If you were in this position 6 months ago what changes/recommendations would you give for marketing efforts?
How do you plan on measuring the success of Illuvium's marketing efforts? Where do you expect to see improvements in the next 6 months?
For my fellow marketing sub-council noms and I:
-
What is your overall marketing strategy for promoting Illuvium, and how will you ensure it aligns with the platform's values and objectives?
-
How do you plan to address the challenges of marketing a blockchain game like Illuvium, particularly in terms of complexity and adoption barriers?
-
In your opinion, what sets Illuvium apart from its competitors, and how would you effectively communicate this unique selling proposition to potential users?
-
How will you prioritize and allocate resources to different marketing channels and initiatives, considering budget and resource constraints?
-
Can you share an example of a successful marketing campaign you've managed in the past, and how that experience can be applied to Illuvium's marketing efforts?
-
How do you plan to engage and involve the Illuvium community in marketing initiatives, ensuring that their voices are heard and valued?
-
What are your thoughts on working with gaming influencers, content creators, and streamers to promote Illuvium, and how would you approach building these partnerships?
-
How would you ensure that marketing materials and campaigns are inclusive and accessible to a diverse, global audience?
-
What strategies do you have in mind for driving long-term user engagement and fostering a loyal, passionate community around Illuvium?
10 ) How will you stay informed about the evolving regulatory landscape surrounding blockchain and cryptocurrencies, and how would you adapt marketing strategies to ensure compliance and mitigate potential risks?
-
How do you plan to measure the success of marketing initiatives and campaigns, and how will you use data insights to optimize and improve marketing efforts over time?
-
Can you share your thoughts on collaborating with other GameFi platforms, gaming studios, and blockchain projects to co-create content, cross-promote, and share resources for mutual growth?
Sorry that's long lol.
Marketing:
How important are content creators and how can Illuvium best support them.
Game:
What’s more important. Fitting the gameplay to satisfy the lore or altering the lore for the best possible gameplay.
Strategy:
Best approach to converting a Free2Play player to a paying customer?
Community:
How do you increase the number of community members participating in Illuvium. (Governance, general feedback, content, memes)
I can really see how the marketing subcouncil will have a lot of eyes in this crucial pre-launch epoch so I will start with them:
-
What has been your favorite and least favorite Illuvium marketing strategy thus far?
-
Do you think more resources have to be allocated towards marketing and why?
Game
-
What will be your priority for this upcoming 6 months?
-
My biggest concern regarding the core game would be for it to be public ready this year and for it to not have game breaking bugs. What is in your opinion the core mechanic that needs to be great and what will you do to help it be ready on schedule.
Hi. For all those candidates who are running for community sub council: As an investor, and community member what do you see as the biggest holes in communications from the DAO and team back to the community and investors? How would you change or enhance communication to ensure that people who don’t use twitter and discord are adequately informed of the decisions being made on their behalf?
How will you help to drive more engagement with our community?
How many hours per week are you going to commit to the role?
What are you thoughts on how to manage the potential for thousand of new players flooding into the discord once we have products to launch to the masses? What would you think is the most effective way to engage with them all with out loosing our investors and ogs in the noise?
This was very much appreciated. Thank you @robust tree
Thanks to everyone else too for their questions
I would love to hear one more simple question being answered:
In Gov V2 document there is a "Recommended experience" part for every Sub-Council. Do you feel like you have the recommended experience?
@harsh igloo
There have been some good questions already so just wanted to add a few:
Marketing Sub-Council
What added value can you bring to the table which will supplement the expertise of our current team of full-time marketing and partnerships professionals?
Gaming Sub-Council
Name one (1) specific change youd want to champion based on the current state of each game mode and state your reasons why?
Community Sub-Council
If elected, what initiatives would you commit to accomplish this epoch that would elevate and promote the trichotomy between the DAO (community), Council, and Team? (ex. Transparency through weekly updates in discord)
Strategy Sub-Council
Abstaining to pose questions for this sub-council on the account that I am running for a seat under this.
I like this one ☝🏻
As a community sub-council member:
-
I will engage in a consistent and regular basis to gather feedback and ideas from the community, organize these thoughts, and relay them to the council and team.
-
I believe an important aspect to transparency is to have the whitepaper consistently updated. A goal of mine is to help put in play the pieces needed for that and possibly get hands on with it myself if that is not an overstep of my scope.
-
When really great community ideas come up or just have enough DAO membership support, I will draft a proposal on the community's behalf. There are lot of great ideas out there that don't go to proposal for one reason or another. It seems to usually be either because the idea originator does not know how to or want to make a proposal, or the idea is not clearly organized enough and doesn't pick up enough momentum. I can help with both of those.
-
When proposals are up for vote by the council, I will be especially active in getting a pulse on how the community feels about it and advocating for you to the council. The IIP and ICCP forums have been great however I think that in a perfect world the community as a whole would act like a 5th council member when it comes to voting. That's not realistic in practice though to because the logistics of that would a bit sticky, so I will do my best to represent the community by proxy in a similar manner.
1. What has been your favorite and least favorite Illuvium marketing strategy thus far?
I love all the promotional material we release, like the trailers. Our CGI team is really on point for those.
For my least favourite though i will have to say the D1sk Battles on the main channel. We could've get way more benefits from doing them on the "guests" channels and I think numbers speak for themselves to show it wasn't really a success.
2. Do you think more resources have to be allocated towards marketing and why?
In marketing it's rarely a question of how much. It's usually more a matter of HOW. With PvP and Public Release around the corner we should consider focusing our future efforts towards the traditional gamers!
Hey everyone, I have read the community questions in here and plan to answer them first in the interviews with TSG then in here as well. Apologies I have been ridiculously sick and have had to take time to recover
Ok I'll avoid answering the questions we already answered here or in the Nominees panel to not spoil it and focus on the other ones so i don't have to write 4 pages
- How do you plan to address the challenges of marketing a blockchain game like Illuvium, particularly in terms of complexity and adoption barriers?
You make a very good point here bringing complexity and adoption barriers. Overall i think we should market Illuvium like a great game. Combines Pokémon and TFT with some Card Games elements, and is really fun to play. Organizing events with Non-crypto gaming communities and influencers to bring our game to their sight and show them how cool it is.
Yes it also involves crypto and NFTs, and that will turn off some people. But not all! In fact the very 1st crypto asset i ever bought was an ILV token!
While on our side we keep building easy and understandable tools to educate people about our ecosystem and work on having those as easy to access as possible! This way we increase our retention on the Gamers audience !
I think we just need to make them understand that what's behind those adoption barriers is worth the effort. And Fight for Eth is not the way, otherwise those players would already be playing Axie.
- In your opinion, what sets Illuvium apart from its competitors, and how would you effectively communicate this unique selling proposition to potential users?
Illuvium has better graphics than any autobattler or Monster collectible game and a UNIQUE gameplay. That's what sold me, a pure gamer initially not interested into web3, and I really believe that's the way to convince the other gamers out there too.
6) How do you plan to engage and involve the Illuvium community in marketing initiatives, ensuring that their voices are heard and valued?
If i get on the council, my DMs here in Discord will be open just like they already are on Twitter. Making sure that everyone can easily reach me with an idea or a concern of theirs will be a top priority. Additionally, I will keep following what's said in the #1020759212172775464 and engage in there, like any council member should.
7) What are your thoughts on working with gaming influencers, content creators, and streamers to promote Illuvium, and how would you approach building these partnerships?
1st thing, I would stop approaching Crypto influencers and now prioritize new audiences like non-english speaking and Gaming communities. Then I would discourage the "Raid: Shadow Legends" road where we basically pay someone to make an evergreen video, this option is expensive (Crypto Influencers will ask for around 40k for such a deal) and we could do better for the same budget.
So here's an example! PvP is around the corner, so right now we should be planning that launch. We coordinate with the dev team to make sure NO PvP showcase is done outside of discord!
Once we have a good enough version to be playable and willing to showcase publicly for a few hours we move on to the next phase of this plan. We take 16 influencers from TFT and/or Pokémon including some candidates that are non-English speakers, give them privileged access to the PvP BEFORE ANYONE ELSE.
We organize an Invitational Tournament with like a 20k cash prize that they all compete for!
ALL stream on their main channel, as the VERY FIRST PvP footage ever.
They receive exclusive content on their channels, payment for participation and a chance at winning a piece of the prize, we receive exposure to 16 different gamers audiences all at once!
Suddenly, we are now showing our brand new auto-battler to hundreds of thousands of new potential players and we offer beta access to a few hundred or a thousand of their viewers ensuring we plant our seeds within these new communities.
Lower Cost, Higher Reward.
10) How will you stay informed about the evolving regulatory landscape surrounding blockchain and cryptocurrencies, and how would you adapt marketing strategies to ensure compliance and mitigate potential risks?
In order to do so, I will closely engage with the Strategy Sub-Council members that i believe are more knowledgeable than I could ever be for that topic and make sure our marketing campaigns align with any regulations and their own long term strategy for Illuvium's growth.
Hell ya! Love this @errant geode 🫡
Some of the answers are pretty good and I would like to disagree on some. If TSG wasn't there today we could have discussed this for at least couple of more hours. But the most important thing is that whoever is elected, there will be a discussion and the best solution will be find as all of the candidates for marketing sub-council are really good and versatile in my opinion.
Yeah, i agree and if anything, It's good to see all of these qualified people with different opinions so that we can find compromises and make sure that the best solutions are brang to the main-council.
The team is very busy and they are doing a great job. But with that in mind, there is always room for improvement, and fine tuning.
The biggest holes in communication between the DAO and the team/council I see, and what changes I believe would help are:
• Outdated white paper
The solution is simple but not necessarily easy. There needs to be at least 1 person committed to keeping it up to date. This will be especially important for mass adoption.
• inconsistency
For example; when was the last showcase episode, dev blog? I think people are more than fine with the team taking breaks or postponing when they're busy, but its a hyp killer when there's no communication about it. I believe simple mediation between team and DAO would solve this.
• lack of transparency on the reason behind some proposals.
- The iteration of the IIP and ICCP discussion forums have gone a long way. While it's true that people should engage mor eifnthey want more info, most people just won't. If we want to grow to big numbers we will need to surrender to feeding info to people to some degree. I believe the ideal answer to this is a kick ass website. While the current one is attractive and always improving, it doesn't offer much info to someone coming in off the street to see if they want to get involved. We need a catalogued and organized info section that lays out everything that has happened to date and future plans as the stand currently. And that also loops around right back to the importance of a current white paper.
• unanswered questions
- this really falls into the SE answer as the transparency fix. However, as great as the Warwicks and the moderators are at answering questions, there needs to be more people with and inside scoop and deep understanding helping people in the channels. This is why I'm so excited about the sub-councils. It's a big step in the right direction.
• For engagement with the community outside social media and discord, I defer to the marketing sub-council. However, in my view, the website and whitepaper are absolutely key, because even if you have killer marketing, clicks don't equal revenue unless our landing page gives the right info.
• As far as my personal commitment to growing the community, I don't think it's helpful to specify a number of hours to commit because that can also be a limit. I think in terms of goals and benchmarks. Needless to say though I have spent the last 2 years working over 100 hour per week to build my ILV stack. Maybe i should have diversified more lol. But I am fully committed and will do anything I can to help us all succeed. I plan to become a content creator and help drive traffic that way.
• To handle mass a increase in users on discord, we just need more hand and more specific channels. Governance V2 is a big step in the right direction. I think we can proportion our response based on the need. It would be a good idea to have a small te of people dedicated to answering question and helping newbies.
Something I did in my Axie guild was to incentive the best players to mentor newbies. It would be cool to see some gamified incentive for talented players to help board new players.
• To the question of how to engage with a rapidly growing membership without loosing touch with OG players and investors, I say the best way is to involve them in the process. Gamify and incentives helping people. Another HUGE way is to automate it. There are AI systems that use the GPT-4 API to access a specified knowledge base to answer questions. It wouldn't take a lot to train an AI on everything Illuvium and let it do its thing. We could truly give M0tz4rt a voice and personality.
Regarding community sub council.
Initiatives for trochotomy between the Doa, council and team.
-Doa to council-
*Utilise existing social media platforms to collate, analyse and report on the most frequently expressed concerns, wants and expectations of the community.
*Regularly and constantly seek feedback amongst individuals and the DOA as a whole regarding satisfaction level and concerns.
- Seek out less active members to determine reasons for less interaction with governance re- IIPs and ICCPs and general community involvement. Then act upon this accordingly and with the sub-councils restraints
*Maintain presence and availability to discuss topics with community members in the format of their choosing and respect anonymity if it is asked for.
*Ideate and work with fellow team members using information collected to create ease of use governance procedures.
Seek community feedback.
-sub council to sub council -
- Each sub council to determine a spokes person (may be interchangeable yet only one person at time) to report information relevant to other sub councils within a set time frame with leyway for extraordinary events.
*sub council representatives to hold regular meetings monthly with leyway for extraordinary events.
*Each sub council to hold regular professional constructive critical reflection meetings on processes and procedures. Monthly with leyway for extraordinary events.
-Sub council to Team-
*Ideate with Team the most effective way to pass on information and reduce the teams workload.
*One member from each team to report this information. Weekly/fortnightly/monthly
Member interchangeable and leaway for extraordinary events.
-Team to sub-councils-
*Regular and consistent flow of necessary information.
*Team building activities and bi-monthly open discussions with the sub-councils as a whole.
-sub council to DOA community-
*Keep members updated on a weekly basis in Discord and other social media platforms.
*Hold AMAs on a bi-monthly or monthly basis within discord.
*Collate and deliver information to members who have expressed particular areas of interest and way of communication.
All of the above are initiatives to be worked on as a team. It is my firm belief that whatever and whoever comes up with ideas or known workable solutions can always benefit from team work. Together we can create things that no one would think of alone.
I see the system working as a feedback loop constantly feeding into the other.
Hey there, thanks for the question.
Yes I do believe I have the relevant experience for community sub-council.
Having previously worked on a committee for 5 years I am aware of the need to balance the often conflicting needs of stakeholders. Within illuvium that being, The team, investors, gamers and the overarching community.
Whiting my work and study in early childhood education and community services (disability and aged care) I have developed a sound knowledge of human behaviour, active listening skills and have a genuine interest in seeing people succeed, along with highly developed empathy, understanding and compassion.
My work has been mainly done in teams and I'm versed in the dynamics of team behaviour along with the tools and skills to encourage and create opportunities for those who are less willing to speak to have their views and voice heard.
Hey 😊
As an investor, and community member what do you see as the biggest holes in communications from the DAO and team back to the community and investors?
*I see a lack of knowledge regarding the members who communicate the least and a lack of process and procedures to discover why.
Overall I feel the Team and council communicate effectively. I see the need for constant communication as a hindrance and not based on the reality of the flow of process. I see the 24 hour hype culture of NFTs has created an unsustainable and short term dichotomy that is overall destructive and not built for long term success. Within gaming as a whole. communities needs to have access to content and information has been counterproductive and caused some titles to tank when delivering on community wants.
That being said a balance is needed.
How would you change or enhance communication to ensure that people who don’t use twitter and discord are adequately informed of the decisions being made on their behalf?
- In real life networking, general and no pressure discussions, personalised information and in a format they wish to be given instead of what we think they should be given.
How will you help to drive more engagement with our community?
- By being present and seen, maintaining an open mind and availability to be communicated with.
How many hours per week are you going to commit to the role?
- I feel the time may vary and fluctuate yet I will commit to at least 12 hours per week to keep abreast of communication.
What are your thoughts on how to manage the potential for thousand of new players flooding into the discord once we have products to launch to the masses?
- More moderators and mentors, guides, so to speak. I feel the same as anorak in this area. However I'm not sure about more channels.
What would you think is the most effective way to engage with them all with out loosing our investors and ogs in the noise?
- I have seen in other web3 gaming servers the affective use of gated channels. This would be an interesting puzzle to work out within Illuvium as it may have to be time gated, as in before launch, as other web 3 games use Holder and Non holder variables.
I would love to nut this out with others.
Perhaps special events and rewards for OGs and investors.
Investors are a tricky one, does someone who invests a large amount after launch have the same og'ness as a smaller investor from the beginning and do we differentiate between big and small investors pre launch.
I would like it kept simple, pre launch and after yet I see this being a hotly contested topic. As long as it is equitable I'd be for it.
Hey 👋
Community:
How do you increase the number of community members participating in Illuvium. (Governance, general feedback, content, memes)
Fun, we have more fun, when we participate in enjoyable activities we are more likely to keep coming back and contribute more.
Meme contests
Simplifying governance and soft education on the reasons for it through conversation.
Being open to all forms of feedback and actively listening to those we disagree with or who come across in ways we find difficult to communicate with.
Questioning to get to the root of the issue.
Simply communiacting and being genuinely Interested in people.
For content that seems to be building naturally yet I was wondering about a paid mentorship for young YouTubers and gamers.
Great answers thanks for taking the time to answer at length. 😍
You're welcome Splendor ❤️
