Been collecting pokemon cards and I want to transition to illuvitar d1sks but i keep pulling these QR code cards and just had this realisation that this is an underrated strategy.
I remember Yu-gi-oh and many others used to attach their physical merch to digital products/cards for a long time and it has since gone out of style. However I think nfts and true digital ownership could bring it back.
What I suggest is this. Every single piece of merch or merch over x price (considering cost to manufacture and illuviums margin and so on). Also comes with a special code on the product tag. This code enables you to redeem a free standard Illuvitar D1sk. Meaning those that love the merch will be incentivised to learn more about the digital aspects of illuvium. This is a big deal when illuvium is a recognisable IP. Similar to how many Pokemon fans are just fans of the merch.
The only downside is it makes the entire refunds policy hazy since people can claim the code then attempt to return product. However since this is onchain there may be solutions in the mix. For example invalidating the code digitally and/or rejecting refund requests if the code has been claimed.
