Had a thought though for a new game idea, based on its gameplay.
Idea is to make a tower defence that incorporates mazing with roads. I think with slight modification it would make a very fun tower defence game.
Buildings are placed and do damage to illuvial creeps running through the maze - who intend to destroy the Nexus.
Your mission is to stop the waves. Every 5 or so waves there may be challenge levels, which could be birds that fly over mazes, or bosses with extra beefiness, or invisibility illuvials (a chameleon?).
I think most assets could be reused from the existing game. But may need shooting animations for buildings, or running mechanics for illuvials.
Something to harken back to Warcraft 3 custom maps, and the community can build new maps for users to defend against!
Going to make a couple suggestions of how there could be interesting mechanics to add flavour.

variation of Poker TD. In Poker TD, you have 5 cards, and can redraw one time to make as good a poker hand as possible. The better poker hand translates to a better building you can place that deals different damage types. Could be used with fusion mechanics for illuvials but for buildings. Add a tip the dealer function (with crypton obviously)to increase your odds of a better draw.

Castle Fight. 2 or more players tee off in a face off battle with teams split evenly across 2 sides. Players build buildings after choosing a a unique builder. Each type controls one line of illuvials (fire, earth, nature, etc). And can build only buildings. The building auto spawn illuvials over time. Builders can access special equipment to load out and strategise.
Also could do a variation of Sprout TD version, or Line TD, where you both spawn creeps for other players and build a defence to protect your own base.
