#Merch as advertisement

So my idea is based on there being missions in the overworld, which I think is necessary to make the world "less empty". Also to make the overworld more alive and vibrant.

So assuming we have sidemissions in the game I think a really smart idea to grow the brand Illuvium would be to offer the players once completeing one of the quests a merch. Maybe a cap/tshirt for a smaller quest. The good looking hoodie for bigger quests, for example.

Side note. Would be cool to fill in the adress for where the merch will be sent in the game once the mission is completed. So it will give the player a sense of connecting this game to the real world...

I understand that this is a cost for Illuvium. But longterm I can defenitely see this paying off in multiple ways for this project and brand.

  1. Imagine the hype and the advertisement we will get. The tweets, the streams and word of mouth by all players bragging about how they complated the mission and the reward they got for doing so.

  2. Once a player has 1 merch its way easier to get them excited and interested in the rest of the merch and wanting them to get/buy more.

  3. Players/Streamers/esport gamers walking around outside wearing it and promoting illuvium, also in livestreams.

  4. I havent heard of any game doing this kind of thing in the past. Since we are a disruptive game with new ideas, we might aswell do it big and keep innovating.

I’d think it’d have to be a limited time offer only. Or limited to a select number.

Another option would be to have the quest reward be a coupon code (or even an NFT) that that could be exchanged in the merch shop as a loss leader (i.e. free hat with purchase over $20 or 20% off on purchases over $50)

Limited would also increase hype, better from a marketing perspective. But I could see lots of these limited releases… perhaps whenever new merch is offered there is some hard way to get it for “free” aka spending a lot of fuel.
