Overview

We propose adding a new item to the game called the "Holo charm". This item can only be obtained once a player has caught or owns all available illuvials in Overworld. The Holo charm will increase the encounter rate of Holo and Dark Holo illuvial encounters by a specified percentage.
The addition of the Holo charm item will provide players with an additional incentive to play the game in different ways. For example, players may want to perfect their skills and climb the PVP ladder in competitive gameplay. Others may be collectors, focusing on capturing/obtaining illuvials and hunting rare holo or dark holo versions. Still, others may be traders, looking to buy and sell illuvials, shards, or other in-game items to turn a profit on the secondary market.

Holo Rate Example

Hypothetically lets say the holo/dark holo encounter rate is 1 in every 8192. That would be a probability of 0.0122% during each wild illuvium encounter. Lets also propose the Holo Charm gives a player a 10% better chance to encounter a holo/dark holo illuivial. The Holo charm would the make an encounter rate of 1 in every 7372.8 or in percentages a probability of 0.0135%. I recommend the team re-evaluates these percentages based off of professional opinion and community feedback.

Economy

In addition to providing players with fun incentives, the Holo charm will also encourage more economic activity on the open markets. Specifically, as new players strive to obtain all illuvials, and earn their very own Holo charm there will be an increased demand for illuvials by consumers. Charms could also be another item bought, sold, and traded on the open markets.

Considerations

  • What prevents people from exploiting the system and trading all illuvials between accounts to earn the Holo Charm? I suggest the Holo charm has requirements that must be met for it to actively work for a player. Possible solutions could be that a player must have all illuvials in their possession (storage+inventory) in order for the charm to be usable.
  • What prevents someone from buying multiple charms on the open market and having very high holo encounter rates? I suggest similar to how you can only equip up to 3 drone upgrades there be a dedicated equipment spot for only 1 holo charm at a time.
Should Holo charms be sellable nfts on the open market? I suggest yes, Illuvium prides itself on being able to give players ownership of the digital assets they earn. This also falls in that category.
  • Does this mean you need a holo charm to hunt holos or dark holo illuvials? No, this item would only slightly increase encounter rates and maybe act as a niece piece to earn for truly dedicated, hardcore, players.

Conclusion

The addition of the Holo charm item to the game will provide players with new incentives to play the game in different ways and encourage more economic activity on the secondary markets. We believe this will be a welcome addition to the game and will enhance the overall player experience.

so you catch every illuvial and then you have a better chance to catch even better illuvials

Sounds like a really cool idea. Especially for the collection minded among us.

So I’m saying it’s like a reward after capturing every illuvial to keep the interesting factor up by giving you a better chance at catching holos

Would there be different ones for each region or Illuvial set? Just throwing out ideas.

If you spend the time/money to get all illuvials, I don't see why not. It's a well written idea. +1 from me 🙂

I love that you considered the exploit cases. I think something like this could be a really cool addition to the game.

I do want to share that the team has indicated to the council that they are not currently equipped to handle content requests, but this will absolutely be high on my list when that time comes.

Nothing really to add, just wanted to thank you for taking the time to present such a well thought out idea! If this is the level of feedback we can expect from the community the game can only get better!

@static lintel how does this proposal work when there is a limited number of illuvials and/or holo's in each season - for the charm to be effective and not disproportionately benefit whales and guilds there would need to be an unlimited supply of holo's which would remove scarcity and disincentivise market sales

# indigo oriole <@333100359230685187> how does this proposal work when there is a limited number...

I don't believe so or at least not to an extreme extent. For example:

Scenario 1.) No holo charm exists. Holo illuvial percent chance is 1 in every 10,000 or 0.01%. Lets say in season 1, 1,000,000 illuvials are caught. Roughly 100 of them are holo.

Scenario 2.) Holo charm present. Holo illuvial percent chance is 1 in every 10,000 or 0.01%.

(for worst case scenario lets say everyone in the game started with this charm and dint grind to earn it)

Lets say in season 1, 1,000,000 illuvials are caught. Roughly 110 of them are holo.

This difference in scenarios is simply a 10% larger supply of holos. Now like I suggested in my idea I think the team should decide the exact percent gain this item gives and how it interacts with the calculations from the backend.

The GOAL of this idea was to nurture different play styles and incentivize people for playing those new styles or creating ones of their very own. Giving players the option on how to enjoy the game the way they see fit allows longevity. I do not suggest undermining holos with higher supply (thus a balance discussion would need to be investigated) but rather give people the option to search out for those rare creatures!

The market dynamic could also turned into "if you catch/ fuse with by you caught illuvials" to the point of having everything you get this and to keep it you have to keep all those illuvials, which would decrease the supply on the market.
