It's for organizing purpose.
People can follow what they are interested in.
If you work in a company you probably also have kind of a folder system. Probably not like you have a server with 1 folder and everybody saves their files directly in that folder, aye?
Hey, if you say it "takes more clicks" I think it's because you don't follow the channels you are interested in.
There's 2 ways of doing that

Talk in one of the post, this will automatically follow it and then the post acts like a regular threads and light up white when there's a new message

Click on the "Follow" button in the post, this will allow you to get the same effect without having to send 1 message
@open gulch you are right, thanks for explaining it to me. I guess I haven’t followed the changes made in discord itself. I have followed the discussions I want to follow and it now shows in the main discord page. 👀

Forums are new, it's all good. This allows more structured discussion and like Dr.Spoon said you can choose the one you are interested in and have a bit less noise on the one your not as interested in. This also allows us to scale better and have a lot more flexibility around the differents topics the community wants to have
