#Enhancing sense of time and place with weather

As Illuvium is not an MMO, I was wondering if there are efficient ways to incorporate the weather/environment into the gameplay loops to create a stronger sense of place and time and perhaps also community.

For example, I was imagining that the tide covers the isthmus in sanctum mesa so you can only access the perhaps the leviathan arena twice a day at low tide (just a hypothetical). This would also bring the community together at particular times of day.

It’s a nice idea but also a lot of work. Just moving the sun a little bit they have to change all the light and shades. I don’t think it’s as simple as we think. For now I think we should be happy with how incredible sanctum mesa is and let them finish the other regions. Once the game is fully up and running, they can start working on these upgrades imo 🙂

Just to build on what fraggy said - it was mentioned in an interview with grant and another team member that they would not be doing day/night cycles in levels due to sheer amount of work It would take. There are so many areas across the maps that they've tweaked the lighting to be just right for the correct visibility they'rr after from different light source's (glowing plants, vfx, holes in caverns roofs etc.) and they'd have to redo it all for each slight change you'd see in a day/night cycle. Tides is an interesting idea though but having specific times in games to access things usually makes it difficult for some parts of the world if it falls in their work or sleeping hours.
