send out an email just to let everyone on the mailing list know that we will only ever be sending HUGE updates to that mailing list in-future
and also in that email give them options to join additional mailing listsAtlas_Yeah

-Leaks mailing list, a weekly or bi-weekly mailing list containing some of the best recent leaks to keep those engaged via email in the loop

-governance mailing list, for those interested to be informed of any governance news such as a new IIP being discussed or a new vote been conducted etc.

-and im sure marketing and other community members will come up with another 1 or 2 or few more clever mailing list categories so that we can send more emails on more niche topics to only the right people that are interested...VET_Think

(slightly separate idea) as Rich points out Council Members could also together write a monthly Blog, this could also be sent out in a Governance mailing list alongside other info to keep the community apprised of Council goings on in the Councils own words regularly

I think it would be efficient if once per month the council could draft a report. Could include notable governance ideas, things discussed over the past month etc.

Utilizing the mailing list for notable milestones and events is a good idea. I don't think we'd want to over-do it, but once per month would be a reasonable timeframe. Could time it to coincide roughly with Aaron's dev blogs, so we'd have development updates, council updates, plus any notable releases/events (new PB releases or video footage, elections etc.).

To be specific, I think weekly updates are probably too frequent for most topics, mostly in the context of how much work someone would have to put in to draft, proofread and QC, plus the fact that there have been, and will be, weeks where nothing visible happens. While most people who are reading through #1020759212172775464 love Illuvium, and likely would read weekly updates, with other projects I'm tangentially interested in (which is likely a large portion of the mailing list if we're honest, people who would ask "wen game" once every 6 months), I'm likely to start ignoring e-mails if they are too frequent or contain too little content. That's the core of my argument for a monthly update.

I do really like the idea of leveraging the mailing list a bit more to drive engagement and help get the word out about Illuvium and what's going on.

I remember correctly that we were supposed to have a separate governance tab on the website. I think this would be a great addition as a feature to have a separate governance newsletter that would inform all those who opted-in to be updated on all developments on governance. Topics would include:

  • weekly summary of ideas and/or IIPs posted
  • result of IIP voting including each rationale made by the council members
  • schedules of town halls, election, nominations, etc.
  • issues to be tackled
  • etc

I know @molten condor and I have been sharing IIP updates and results on twitter since there was barely any spotlight on governance matters save for discord and a few posts on twitter about epoch elections.

Having a newsletter may also help get more people to vote!

It is definitely a welcome addition to raise the transparency and communication to the community. However, I personally am not really a fan of sending out mails as they’re usually treated like spam / scam for most people. Instead, I would also prefer to have a governance tab on the homepage and structure it similar to the current news section. We could use other media like twitter and discord to simply announce that we have new postings on the homepage. That will also have the positive side effect that people might also check out other sections of the Illuvium universe once they’re on the homepage anyway.

I don't like the idea of getting more emails personally. I believe that a lot of that information could be highlighted in a single email. You could provide links to the content, if they want additional information. I like the idea of monthly communication from the council, a blog is fine, but possibly an AMA is better?

I vote no unless we get a council member who can write. I don't want the general public receiving text walls and thinking the emails are ILV communications. Putting the burden on ILV team isn't the answer either. The twitter and instagram posts are plenty, and all pass through QA.

What if we combine a few of the ideas? We could have a ‘Council Spotlight’ section that gets added to Aaron’s dev blog. I don’t know if it is already set up to send reminder emails out as an option but if not then just add that and highlight it.

#

Indicate that will be our primary monthly communication mode from both the council and the team and our community can simply opt in if they prefer email (or are not very active and need a prompt).

I'm supportive of this idea, as I also have received various messages from individuals asking them when the election was and to send them a ping when the election opens. While Discord works well for many, we should be open and clear on various means of reminding interested individuals of key events. I totally agree this needs to be separated from game updates (so addition to Aaron's blog may not be the same audience), and purely be an Illuvium governance news letter. Props to @bitter venture and @molten condor for leveraging their Twitter accounts for this, though I believe we could consider an official Illuvium governance Twitter, and a monthly/bimonthly email newsletter that is "the best of governance" updates, saving people from need to read back through the growing list of ideas. Potentially have a "Council Corner" update of their events since the previous newsletter, brief summaries of recent Ideas topics, and upcoming events. I might know a guy, who if elected again, would be willing to write the Council Corner column.😛
