I feel like there is an assumption that most people in web3 gaming and investing in this space are 20-35 yr old men. The stereotypical crypto moon boys. What I have learned is that it not the case at all in fact there are a great number of 35-60 year old women in here for example. I wonder if there is an opportunity to have a anonymous questionnaire to help better understand who is in this community so that marketing can be targeted to suit this diversity better. This is an observation not a statement about feminism or anything else for that matter. 😊

I think it would be interesting to see the demographic breakdown.
My experience with people I've gotten to know is that we definitely skew male, and the distribution is a bit bimodal on age, with a number in early/mid 20s, and quite a few around 40. Hypothesis there is early 20s lack other financial responsibility yet and can immerse in the area, while the 40s crowd start to have the financial resources to speculate.
I'd love to see if someone can get broader data and leverage that to aid marketing/communication.

The reason it got me thinking is I am a 40+ woman and I’m across quite a few different projects. Illuvium is my biggest investment. But I see women like like all over the place. I had the privilege of speaking to quite a few at Aussie convention as well. If you then consider that I have grown children in their late teens early 20s they are watch avidly what I’m doing. They will own some of my assets in games going forward. It would be helpful to know more I feel.

I do a lot of consumer research in my day job, and I couldn't agree more - how you target and communicate definitely needs to be tuned, and it starts with understanding who these groups of individuals are. Maybe we can start with something small and informal to see how the survey goes. If you have ideas on what drew you to Illuvium or the other projects, and if anyone is doing a good job speaking to you through their messaging, that would be super helpful. I really appreciate you sharing.

As a foot note it may also help to make people feel more part of the illuvium community if they feel better understood

This is a great idea - More data is always better than assumptions. Moreso than just polling investors, polling the target audience would set Illuvium up to market optimally to larger audiences.

Just had a quick thought as a start. A brief questionnaire could be sent out to pb2 players as their email addresses are already obtained. This could be anonymous and give a picture of the most hard core of fans first. Then perhaps from that information design a larger study of discord users.

I agree in that more information is always better when you can obtain it. That being said I would be wildly surprised if the team didn't already have this information through the social channels. For example I can see demographic breakdowns of my youtube videos to a degree.

Also while there is a wide variety of ages and plenty of all genders, the motives behind being a part of the Illuvium community can be different. I think that would be fascinating to me, the motives for those in the community. So how many 40+ ppl are here mainly for gaming over investing? Cause I mentally totally stereotype that shit. A simple three questionaire

What's your age range?
How do you identify?
What is your main purpose in Illuvium? (gaming, investing, etc.)

would be wildly interesting to me.

This topic can be misunderstood further if there is a feminist slant or label put to this by trying to create woman’s groups or segregate people of any group into pigeon holes. I’m not a fan of this at all.

oh yeah same, if you need to create a "Safe space" for any group you already have a problem that should be addressed. part of what was my issue with WF

I actually don't think I do (?)

@fast mist this is a great idea and I would be really interested in seeing the results.

Illuvium would probably be able to pull some demos from their socials, but a survey for discord users would be interesting as a comparison of 'reach vs engaged' community members

I think a lot of people think about stats from 10-20 years ago, back when the vast majority of gamers were young men. My understanding is that it's more like a 60/40 split (though this can vary quite a bit by genre), with the average age of gamers being somewhere in their 30's.

Makes total sense to me, honestly gaming really came into its own strongly in the 80s, so it's natural that the generation who helped grow it would still be interested

I am in the 50+ solo mum 3 kids. I have a basic understanding of the games my children have played over the years, joined in from time to time. It cost a small fortune in forgotten games and roll overs in subscription fees. A wonderful surprise to find like minded people and people falling outside of the demographics of the norm. More info on this point is a good call.
