#Lags (Stuttering) every 1-2 seconds in the experimental branch.

Bought the game at around Christmas, since i heard the multiplayer beta came out.
Downloaded the game, switched to the experimental and started it up.
The game stutters instantly when it loads up, even the intro and the menu stutters like every second sometimes even faster (seems to depend on the fps, since more fps -> faster stuttering)
Tried all different graphic settings, played around with Vsync and even with the Nvidia control panel and some settings there.
I cant get the Experimental to work.

But the stable build just works fine.
Also tried the script for unsubscribing delisted mods (even though i couldn#t have any since i just bought the game), but it still won't work.

Probably you have mods that are no longer available.

Fix Menu Lag

To fix lag/stuttering in the main menu or in the editor run this script and follow the instructions at the top of the file.

modest marten
#

Try using this script :)

#

Thats exactly what i wrote in the text

#

i just bought the game and it was a fresh and clean install without touching the workshop.
and i still tried the script and it didnt help - like expected

@burnt garden @rugged delta could both of you send over the log.txt? 🙂
Press Windows+R and paste in "%localappdata%\Teardown", look for a file called log.txt.

burnt garden
#

I can't paste the .txt here unfortunately

timid kelp
# burnt garden I will DM you

Not seeing anything strange in the logs, does the game run on an SSD or HDD?
And try to switch to windowed mode and see if it changes anything, same with vertical sync (try turning off, every frame, every other frame). If something changes we'll know that it's a graphics issue.

You also mentioned that you had the problem on both your systems and that makes me wonder, what is the common denominator between those systems? Are you running some monitoring software e.g. MSI afterburner or some other overlay?
Any setting/environment that is shared between the systems would be good to rule out.

One more thing that you could try is installing any mod from the workshop, I know that earlier there has been reduced frame rates by not having any mods installed weirdly enough, so maybe that would reduce the stutters? 🤔

# timid kelp Not seeing anything strange in the logs, does the game run on an SSD or HDD? And...

I downloaded the game on SSD. I think I tried the game on HDD but I will attempt this idea now (edit: just remembered this computer does not have HDD so won't be able to test this out). Sure, Ill try windowed and the Vsync changes. Only thing I can note is that the lower the FPS the less the stuttering happens, but it is still consistent, just less.

Yeah good point, I did try turning off the Steam overlay and that did not work, but maybe I didn't turn off the nVidia overlay I will try that out although I don't use it for anything it only opens up if I press ALT + Z, but Ill try this anyway. Another similarity might be Medal, Riot/Vanguard, Discord, Spotify, Razer Synapse (but doesn't have overlay I think), f.lux (might be a culprit I will try turning this off). Both computers are intel CPU + nVidia GPU. The computer I am on currently is much better than the other one but still same issue.

Sure, I will try out downloading a mod and see what happens, thanks for your reply! I'll give these a go and let you know

#

I exited all of the programs that could be causing issues but did not work unfortunately. One thing to note is that the stuttering happens on the main menu too not just in game. Not sure if @rugged delta gets the same thing with the stuttering in the main menu. So maybe not a graphical thing?

#

I've just tried windowed with OpenGL + Direct3D. Vsync on Adaptive, Off, every Frame, every other frame. I've tried lowering render quality + the other graphical options to low. Borderless and Fullscreen have the same issue.

Also I've tried no mods and a shotgun and an FPS conuter mod installed and enabled but did not work either

#

The main thing that might help is that I get the stutters in main menu, only thing I can think of but not sure what is causing it

timid kelp
# burnt garden The main thing that might help is that I get the stutters in main menu, only thi...

Well nothing's really happening in the main menu (that I'm aware of). The only thing is as mentioned before, i.e. "having mods that are no longer available". But as you said, it's a clean install so it couldn't be that 😕

You could still take a look in the Steam Library if you right click Teardown and go to Properties > Workshop. Look for any items that don't have any preview icon and 0 bytes in size. It's not always the script helps, so try it manually if possible (even though it's unlikely to be the issue).

I'm trying to think of anything that happens in the menu and maybe it has to do with server searching. Do you have expanded region search on for servers?
I don't think it would matter since the search will only happen when you open the server browser, but I'm running out of ideas here...

I don't think i have anything in workshop mods.

Hmmm... I have an Intel CPU and nVidia GPU which maybe an issue? or maybe my specific CPU / GPU?

#

@rugged delta Which CPU and GPU do you have?

#

If we have the same ones then maybe that'd be an issue

#

My CPU is: Intel Core Ultra 7 265KF
GPU: nVidia GeForce RTX 4070 Super

#

And I also don't have region expanded search turned on

#

I've tried a bunch of things at this point (apart from specific BIOS things) so Im not quite sure what the issue coudl be either. It's very confusing

AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D with a Nvidia RTX 5070Ti

burnt garden
#

Hmm okay

#

Very strange

#

The only thing that gives some relief as fr34ky states in the original post is lowering the FPS will also lower the amount of times that it stutters. But not a clue what that helps us with

#

But me and fr34ky have exactly the same symptoms/issues

#

@timid kelp Is there a way to disable multiplayer somehow for me through a config or anything like that? I am wondering if as you said, if there is some sort of syncing with multiplayer that might be causing issues in main menu... Although then I suppose I shouldn't have issues in Single player if it's purely a multiplayer issue assuming no multiplayer processes happen in single player

#

Although not sure why FPS would affect that in this case. So maybe not necessary to try that out

timid kelp
#

Probably not a multiplayer issue, if possible see what you can find by looking in the Event Viewer (press Windows button and search).
Maybe there are some system clashes with the game, Windows would report them here.

Ah unfortuantely it was just Medal

timid kelp
#

yeah was gonna say, it's likely it's not to do with the stutters...

burnt garden
#

True

timid kelp
#

Hmm, will have to continue to ponder this issue another time unfortunately.
But one quick note: the stutters seem to happen fairly consistently with 2 second intervals.

#

ok that reaction is diabolically quick, no way you read all that :P

hahaha

I read the first line, reacted, then read the second line

I have a completely random theory that it may be Steam maybe. @rugged delta how many friends do you have on your friends list or pending friend requests? Is it a lot?

timid kelp
# burnt garden I have a completely random theory that it may be Steam maybe. <@1248029686493347...

It wouldn't be surprising if it is. The main menu lag issue from mods is Steam trying to download the broken mod repeatedly and failing (thereby causing the lag).

I'm not sure if it's about the amount of people in the friend list, I have about 200 with about 20 pending requests and I'm not seeing the issue but I don't know. Maybe it has to do with the names of people that you have in the friends list or similar (if they have long names or weird ones).

burnt garden
#

If it was Steam then it would also heavily explain why both of my computers having the same issue with them being different computers, since I would use the same Steam account

timid kelp
#

And Teardown can be launched without Steam, but it's a bit tricky...

@timid kelp Incredible news

#

I just tried family share and I can confirm it is Steam, game runs perfect on different Steam account

#

even with no workshop mods it seems like it can still cause issues

#

Unsure what exactly from Steam is causing the stuttering but wouldn't be surprised if it's friends list if not workshop mods. This was an issue in Rocket League a while ago (friends list) so wouldn't be surprised if similar here

#

@rugged delta If you wanted to play Teardown on experimental, family share the game to a new account

i have had the same problem and it was something with steam cache and steam settings and it worked fine if i switched accounts
