The most I can suggest is reading the other class stuff, but start by reading subclass abilities. Subclasses are often self-contained effects that are highly flavorized.
Then, if you find one you like, you can read the levels 1~5 information on the base class to see if you still like the effects you get.

There’s a lot of stereotypes for the visual for any given class, but you don’t have to follow any of it.

Biggest example is Rogue wearing dark clothes and being solo-focused. Their Sneak Attack (core ability like Spells or Rage) works just by having the target fight something that isn’t you within 5ft. You could tag-team a creation with another player to make something along the lines of Kira-Tor (MKX) or Alchemist (WC3, Dota 2).

Fighter stereotype is a meathead that just cuts/bashes, but I find a lot of characterization off just picking a species like Elf that gives a couple spells, and focusing on having a tactical mindset. Makes a warrior, not a weapon.

eeveeYep Getting a long-going campaign is also just hard. Doing what you can as a player to keep other players interested can ensure things go well. I think my current group could’ve fallen apart bit by bit if my character didn’t own a Wagon and Mule at the start, as it’s been the center of a lot of party complications and is now being slowly consumed by a pet mimic. ~50GP well spent. rooKek1
