How new are you, and what sources do you have available?

#

Also what is an archivist

#

Last preemptive question: When you say sorcerer do you mean the exact class sorcerer, or do you mean spellcasters in general

#

Got it. If the DM is allowing homebrew, I think its safe to say you have access to all of the normal D&D books.

#

I think @astral sable was going to recommend something, he was typing for awhile.

Yes, and indeed, we’ve seen you

Preparing a whole essay here, lol

But before he gives serious advice: I like half-orc shadow sorcerers. You can get taken to zero HP, then again, and only go unconscious at the 3rd time.

I’ve been thinking of orc or yuan ti since it seems really resistant in damages

The best subclasses are:
Clockwork Soul, Aberrant Mind, Lunar Sorcery, Divine Soul

The first three get additional spells, for the most part even having more spells ready than wizards.

Clockwork Soul can get the best spells any sorcerer can have and can get incredibly tanky if built right

Aberrand Mind is awesome for intrigue and social encounters since at lvl 6 they can cast their psionic spells without components - and those spells can be almost any enchantment spell. They are also very good at utilising their entire arsenal of spell slots since from lvl 6 they don't suffer the penalty of converting sorcery points back into spell slots like other sorcerers do

Lunar Sorcery has a great additional spell list, but its class features are worse than alternatives.

Divine Soul gets no additional spells, but has access to the entire Cleric spell list to pick from and very good features for support characters

If you're not averse to complicating things a bit - multiclassing - you might want to shore up your defences a bit
Very good ways to do so are taking a level in Cleric or taking a level in Warlock with the Hexblade subclass
With those you gain the ability to wear Armor

Oh you can multi class?! Thank you! I will compose with that, I think mixing it would be best

Just make sure not to go overboard
If you multiclass a full caster (classes focusing mainly on spellcasting) you're slowing down your progression - you're gonna be waiting longer for the more impactful, higher level spells

Here it's best to pick up one or two levels, but no more
