I'm redoing my mainsailOS on freshly formatted SD through Raspberry Pi Imager but I keep getting this error message, is there something new I'm missing? πŸ€”

I have no Windows, so its a bit tough for me to guide you.
But that tells me something is horribly wrong here. How did you download the Image? From github or with rpi-imager itself?

#

Please provide an screenshot of your devices in a explorer(?!?)

#

Hi I went through the rpi-imager itself as per the guide. It's now the 3rd time I've tried it.

Could you please show what Volume I: contains ? This should be labeled as boot

#

What I basicly need is Informations about the partition layout of the sdcard an the content layout of the FAT32 partition.

#

Flashing mainsailOS fails.

lament pelican
#

This is the sd

drifting lava
#

That couldnt be correct at all

#

The File sizes are around 1Gb

#

How did you format the SDCard?

#

It should be formatted in FAT32 as a Single drive

lament pelican
#

I format through " SD card formatter " program. Like you say as a single drive in FAT32

Then might be an Option to reinstall rpi-imager or trying to flash a "vanilla" Raspberry OS. If that fails also, you have to search for in Raspi Foundation Docs/Forum for a solution.

Seems like there might be an issue with the mailsailOS image.....loaded an Raspberry Pi Lite no problem. (FYI also tried the full version first also no problem)

drifting lava
#

Then the file might be corrupted. Clear Download Cache of rpi imager. I think its located somewhere in "appdata" in Windows. The folder similiar to home directory in linux

Then last bastion. Download the Image from github and use the "own image" option. Maybe Raspberry or one of there mirrors has Problems

#

I know the Image works with it flashed it yesterday last time to check another issue

lament pelican
#

Ok will give that a go

drifting lava
#

Did that work?

lament pelican
#

Sadly not....could it be that the only thing different between yours and mine is maybe the fact that I change my country to ZA (South Africa) and adjust the time zone....could that possibly cause the issue??

#

Reloaded the SD with Rpi lite image again with no problem so think I'm going to try the Kiauh way ...unless you can think of something else to try??

drifting lava
#

Well, it sounds you are sitting behind the "Great Wall". In fact mainsailOS isnt different from the way you mentioned. Its a pure Raspberry Pi OS legacy image enhanced with "klipperversum" components.

#

But you didnt unpack the file from git?

#

That may also be an issue

lament pelican
#

Unpack? as in unzip ?? No I selected the .zip file

drifting lava
#

Good. That was the only thing which came to my mind.

lament pelican
#

Its baffling me as I've use the mainsailOS on many occasions

drifting lava
#

Maybe you try balena etcher instead.

#

I am a bit out of Ideas for root cause.

#

The only thing is left is changing the computer you use to flash πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

lament pelican
#

Will try Balena quick otherwise will try another PC at work tomorrow...thanks for the help so farπŸ‘

drifting lava
#

You're welcome even I couldnt help really

lament pelican
#

no luck....seems to fail during the Validating. This is what the SD cards directory looks like.

drifting lava
#

This looks much better. But doesnt tell me why it keeps failing. I tried to repeat everything , also deleted cache and such but it doesnt fail at all

lament pelican
#

I put the SD into another pi via ethernet but get this once logged in...think I'll try another PC I'm on Windows 11 maybe it's being "dof"

drifting lava
#

That would be a nightmare for opensource if win11 acts like this, but.. I know why I own only 1 software piece from Redmond 🀣

lament pelican
#

Not sure why but mainsailOS loaded no problem, through Rpi Imager on another PC ...go figure ...thought it might have been my card reader (stick) but it worked no problem. Maybe my PC is just being grumpy πŸ˜‚ . @drifting lava thanks again for your ideas etc
