Hi @boreal garden. I'm kapa.ai, your friendly support bot. I will try to answer your question by searching through the knowledge base.

Yes, you can use Vercel's Web Analytics to gain insights about your website's traffic. It provides you with a way to filter your data to gain a deeper understanding of your website traffic. You can filter your data by the following criteria: Referrers, Viewed Pages, Country, Browsers, Operating System, and UTM Parameters. For example, you can filter for visitors from China and analyze their behavior.

If you suspect that the traffic is from bots, Vercel's Web Analytics does not count traffic that comes from automated processes or accounts. This is determined by inspecting the User Agent header for incoming requests.

In case of a DDoS attack, Vercel automatically mitigates against L3, L4, and L7 DDoS attacks at the platform level for all plans. Vercel does not charge customers for traffic that is blocked by the Firewall. Usage will be incurred for requests that are successfully served prior to us automatically mitigating the event. Usage will also be incurred for requests that are not recognized as a DDoS event, which may include bot and crawler traffic.

For an additional layer of security, you can enable Attack Challenge Mode, which is available for free on all plans. You can monitor usage in the Vercel Dashboard under the Usage tab.

Yes, according to Vercel's documentation, you will not be charged for traffic that is blocked by the Firewall, which includes traffic from DDoS attacks. However, usage will be incurred for requests that are successfully served prior to Vercel automatically mitigating the event. Also, usage will be incurred for requests that are not recognized as a DDoS event, which may include bot and crawler traffic. You can monitor your usage in the Vercel Dashboard (https://vercel.com/dashboard) under the Usage tab.

As for the Attack Challenge Mode, you can enable it when you are under attack and want to provide another layer of security. However, it's recommended to only enable it temporarily, as needed. This is because standalone APIs, other backend frameworks, and web crawlers may not be able to pass challenges and therefore may be blocked.

If the traffic is from a crawler bot and it's not recognized as a DDoS event, then yes, you will be charged for the usage according to Vercel's documentation. This is because usage is incurred for requests that are successfully served prior to Vercel automatically mitigating the event, and for requests that are not recognized as a DDoS event, which may include bot and crawler traffic.

However, Vercel provides tools to monitor and manage your usage. You can monitor your usage in the Vercel Dashboard (https://vercel.com/dashboard) under the Usage tab. You can also utilize Edge Middleware (https://vercel.com/docs/functions/edge-middleware) to protect against undesired traffic based on its IP, User-Agent header value, or other identifiers.
