"PrismaClient unable to run in this browser environment" only when using $extends

I'm hoping someone who is versed in Next.js + Prisma can help me out here. I'm just trying to use $extends to set some types of JSON fields coming out of my database. Everything works great... until I add any Prisma extensions, then I get this error. Not really sure what's going on and why an extension only returning types would cause it.
