Can't import a GitHub repo on Vercel

I'm using Vercel for the first time. My friend created the (private) Github repo and I'd like to import it to Vercel to handle deployment. On https://vercel.com/new > Import Git Repository, I can't find/select this repo. I'm guessing it's because I am not the one who created it but I guess there is a way (something my friend should do on GH or Vercel) for me to have access to the repo/project on the Vercel? Thanks a lot

maybe you need to have admin permissions in the repo? or it has to be part of an organization that you both share. alternatively, you can import 3rd party repos as well: https://vercel.com/new/git/third-party

Thanks for your answer! For the third-party repo to be added it needs to be public and we want to keep this one private. Will ask my friend to give me admin permission but I don't know where we set this up
