Change audio language with English subtitles in PC?

My dad bought HL on Steam two months ago for me to mod and I've been wanting to change the language into Japanese dub and english sub like from my gameplay on PS5 but it both affected the UI and subtitles.

I think the game setting probably doesn't allow this combo directly.

I have seen few people doing binary editor (like HexEdit) on HogwartsLegacy.exe to find the Japanese text string (e.g., ja-JP) and replace it with the English text string (e.g., en-US), forcing subtitles to English while keeping the Japanese audio.

This is pretty complicated I wouldn't recommend but if you're interested you can have a look at how it works on the steam community.

Ok, I tried using Hexedit and followed the tutorials but it didn't work for me. It failed to verify the file exe on Steam. I've read the discussions about this and it seems no one's ever done jp sub to english sub (they only did english sub to their preferred language)

Hoping someone will make a subtitles mod to the in game library.

Do I need Vortex or mod manager? Idk if in game and nexus have different mod folders

you don't need Vortex. Just download the mod from Nexus. Then go to steam, right-click on Hogwarts Legacy and select "Properties" > "Language" to choose the language, i suppose English?. Once that's done extract the mod's zip file and take the ".pak" file and move it to this directory:
...\Hogwarts Legacy\Phoenix\Content\Paks\ > ~mods . Done. If the ~mods folder doesn't exist, you can simply create it yourself and that's it

Ok I followed the guides but the english subtitle mod doesn't work, it's still written in japanese. 😥

you could try this mod if you're having trouble with the one I suggested earlier. It's called "Japanese Voice Replace English Voice" and as the name suggests it only works if your game language is set to english. It shouldn't affect the UI or subtitles so you should be safe. The only downside is that the lip sync might follow the english dialogue instead of the japanese, which might be a bit distracting... if you'd rather give the previous mod another shot remember that you need to have both english and japanese languages downloaded via Steam properties. If the original audio files aren't on your drive the mod won't have anything to load. Just make sure the game is set to english so the interface and subtitles stay that way 👍
