Yes I have read #1070595782283116625 I reached out to customer support via ticket and provided crash logs and PC specs via dxdiag but all they did was close my ticket and refused to help me. I just want to play hogwarts legacy but it keeps crashing on boot after the health warning. I have verified files, reinstalled the game multiple times on different drives, made sure I have no mods and have followed guides online that I have found such as deleting files from appdata and program data to force the game to generate new shader compilation but I still don't get to the shader compilation bar and crash on the seizure warning. I know it is not just me with this issue as the same update has broken the game for my friends also.
#How do I launch the game?

Guess there's just no fix for us.
yeah they keep giving switch 2 patches but screw us I guess 🙁
uninstall the game delete the save file and anything related to the game then try reinstalling after restarting your pc
or update your gpu's drivers
@maiden brook
if that doesn't work then you might not be able to play it
Done all that multiple times
In the folder C:\Users\user\AppData\Local\Hogwarts Legacy\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor is a file called GameUserSettings.ini go to find, search past LatencyMode press find next. Youll see the game is trying to brute force ai features that wont work on all computers. This is partly why the game crashes after booting up. By default the game should have all ai features turned off.
I managed to turn most ai stuff off, But, when the game boots some values get changed from 1 (low end) back to 3 (max settings). Which is causing issues running the game. My gpu doesnt support raytracing so the forced raytracing is becoming a royal pain in the arse.
I can see the game is trying to use AMD_FSR2_Quality and Nvidia_Reflex_Quality I don't know what the correct way to turn these off when editing the ini file. If anyone knows the ai graphic list so i can disable these features that would be seriously appreciated.
this might have something to do with it since they are having same issue as you
@maiden brook can you get into the game menu
try turning of all raytracing
I have done that and was able to boot that game a single time and now I can't get it to work again. I have a 4080s so my GPU does support this stuff
4080 doesn't support raytracing?
Yes it does..
oh not what i meant
try messing around with turning all those options to on and then load up game wait for it to crash then go back into text file once game has closed after crashing then turn them all off the raytracing one's then if that works go in to the game settings and completely disable raytracing
and it should work and if it doesn't might have to do that everytime you want to play and if customer support is ignoring you then try @ avalanche or wb dev in the discord or in dm's
I have tried so many combinations in that settings file and only got a single boot to main menu and even booting again with the same exact settings crashed the second time I booted
you sure ur on latest gpu drivers
Yep
It's just dumb the same exact update to the game broke it for a friend of mine also and they have a 3090. They have already given up though
if he doesn't respond i would imagine it won't get fixed for a while
let me ping him hope there is no rules against it
there is no hope if dev doesn't respond
pinged him twice and no answer so either there will be an update in a few days or won't get fixed for a while
@maiden brook is should prob mention im on a diff gpu and problem might be on older gpus like yours and your friends i would reccomend going down a version off your gpu drivers might fix or won't at all
4080s isn't old
im on newer have attempted to downgrade drivers by a version
well downgrade your drivers if it works just keep it at that till they fix the issue
well I was able to get to main menu once and it instantly crashed lol
trying many different drivers no luck
hl is broken for you then idk just wait for an update if there are any
FrameGeneration=(Mode=Nvidia_DLSSG,NumFramesInterpolated=1,LocStr="STREAMLINE_DLSSG_MODE_X2") how do I disable FG?
how?
hold on
no matter which quality preset I try it turns frame gen on. I wanna see if frame gen is causing my issues since it seems like each time it initializes my game crashes
yes
at the top you see
make sure bottom Line says off instead off on
and then save
try that
frame gen is such a dumb tech
it work or still crashing
preparing shaders so not sure yet
let's hope it works if it doesn't your just gonna have to wait for issue to be fixed
nope still crashed once on main menu
what happens if you quickly get into main menu and then try load quickly into your save
prob have to be super fast
doesn't give me a chance
how much ram you got
yep frame gen was forced back on in setting file
64gb
NvidiaRayReconstruction=False
LatencyMode=Nvidia_Reflex_LowLatency
FrameGeneration=(Mode=Off,NumFramesInterpolated=0,LocStr="Off")
oh nice gonna have to wait for them to update ig or try find a fix on youtube doubt it will work though
That is correct right?
been doing that each launch
from settings or somewhere else
C:\ProgramData\Hogwarts Legacy
try from windows settings
where?
system - storage - temp files
find direct x shaders i think untick all you don't want deleted
you can try increasing virtual memory but you already have 64gb so won't do anything
it work or still crashing
brb getting my lunch just put yes or no
nope still crashing
doesn't make any sense wait for an update play something else in the meantime
its been months already
I have done stress tests and am fine. and I am perfectly fine in newer games that are more demanding on my hardware to run
have you tried going into game files and launching from there
already did that fairly recently.
solution found maybe go to "C:\Users<your-user>\AppData\Local\Hogwarts Legacy\Saved" delete erverything except folder "SaveGames" (if available)
go to next "C:\ProgramData\Hogwarts Legacy" and delete everything except the file "NotAllowedUnattendedBugReports"
Start the game. This time it should take a few minutes to properly prepare the Shader-Cache
might work
ive done that already multiple times
you got any mods try unistalling all of them and see if it works then
nope no mods
this issue is starting to make no sense holy
ill continue my search
maybe this
idk about the controlled folder acess bit tho
https://www.reddit.com/r/HarryPotterGame/comments/1dbeb70/hogwarts_legacy_is_crashing_fairly_often_i_have/ go to PeterRendulph5125 answer
@maiden brook this one might work it look like the dude knows what he is talking about
that's all i got hope it works for you
@maiden brook might be better to download it so you can actually read it
This has made it even worse now
I now don't even get to the shader compilation stage now
oh... i would recommend uninstalling it
So uhm somehow uninstalling the game, and disabling steam cloud and downloading the game again has fixed my game....
me neither but ive tried uninstalling and reinstalling multiple times before this is the fist time ive tried with steam cloud off and it suddenly worked.
oh i never had that issue since i got it on epic when it released
I refuse to give epic money for their practises
i got it on there cause it released earlier than steam and didn't know if they had it
yeah its really weird tbh
yeah the game fully broke for me again ive tried getting it work again but its just fully broken again sadly
it's not really a fix but surely getting it on somthing else might work
I don't own a console
i meant like epic or some other store idk the issue so prob just a waste of money
yeah im not giving epic my money
I refuse to give money to them it just rewards their scummy behavior
origin or something but idk if they have
same for both editions
plus I doubt it would fix anything
idk wait for hl2 then or lit any game from gamescom
Game is running flawlessly on linux for nearly a day now
just ignore the screenshot quality it doesn't look like that ingame I haven't figured that out yet but game itself is running great
could it just be windows maybe?
maybe idk
same hardware different OS. but my windows install is only a couple months old
whats your ssd/drive you had hogwarts legacy on
name please if it's not sandesk windows update broke it
before it was on a 980 pro nvme now its on a 970 evo nvme
if you downgraded one version would off been fixed oh well
latest update corrupted them so they didn't work correctly
I mean other games are not having issues
it's fine if it works ig just harder to use
linux is doesn't work so well with most stuff
windows just sucks ass though.
I hate it. I use linux the majority of the time except for games
I also tried HL on my WDS200T1X0E-00AFY0
games don't work well with linux yes that's one of the affected ones by the windows update
960 evo*
I didn't try running the game on my HDD cause that would just be pain tbh
oh well atleast its working now
I haven't double checked but seems so ¯_(ツ)_/¯
