#Hogwarts Legacy causing SSD to disconnect?

Hey all,

I'm running into a weird issue where only when playing Hogwarts Legacy, my external SSD disconnects mid-game.

Setup:

Samsung 870 QVO 2TB SATA 2.5" SSD

Connected through a UGREEN SATA-to-USB-C adapter

Plugged into my PC's Thunderbolt port

The drive works fine with everything else — other games, file transfers, etc. It's only Hogwarts Legacy that causes the SSD to eject after playing for a bit.

Does your ssd have a sata port? Or is it a usb model?

Do you have more the 3 drives connected to your computer?

#

Does the adapter have a port for a small power port? If it does. The adapter isn't getting enough power to power your ssd drive

#

I looked up the ugreen sata to usb adapters an it looks like the adapter is only ment for simple file stuff like mp3s, text files, and videos. The comments for the ugreen adapter mention how the adapter powers off when doing gaming. So it sounds like the adapter doesn't get enough power for gaming.

Here's a Sata to usb adapter I use
MIAOERJING SATA to USB 3.0 Cable https://a.co/d/1zMtq2o
It's a pretty good adapter which really good reviews. I actually have one i use for running epic games of a ssd drive i got used. I haven't noticed any issues with it. So it might be worth checking out.

well i have to test it out then i guess

Hopefully it works. If anything your pc should have a second sata port connected to the main sata port for your main drive. If your computer has a dvd drive. You can use that sata chord to connect the drive.

i use the ssd for now outside of my pc bcs of the fiddeling etc i dont like that will try the usb trick but will that change the letter of my drive prob

Why not put it in the slot under the cd drive if it fits. I don't think changing the partition number will help. Changing the letter only helps if on the c: drive the device isn't showing up but is showing up in the formate/ partion windows tool.

i dont have a dvd drive

What kind of computer do you have? If it's to new then that'd explain why you don't have a dvd drive

Older computer shells tend to be good for internal storage devices

#

Dang you really don't have flexibility with that casing

lime leaf
#

it's a prebuild thats it

tall yarrow
#

Doesn't the inner shell have any slots you can use for drives or other stuff.

lime leaf
#

the motherboard has sata conections though

#

and i think the back can be the place where the sata can be located or you just place in trays

lime leaf
#

i'm gonna test it soon i have to do some other work first will let u know how it went

@tall yarrow texture loading in is a problem a bit now it's slower. Loading time is slower then before.

Some lagg in the school seems to be less present i would need to do a long play to test that the ssd doesn't drop it self out

@tall yarrow ar you there?

tall yarrow
#

i am now . Why?

#

I tested the game on a amd and nvidia cards an it seems like the game runs better on amd gpus.

#

Dang

#

And whats about the USB dongle i used and loseses all the write speed and so on

#

(Ssd with dongle)

The usb to sata device you have is intended for power saving or light energy use. I think because hogwarts legacy is high demand on gpu read and load speeds. your ssd adapter cant keep up with the read speeds so it essentially crashes from doing a read speed that exceeds its max read speed. So it stops working to cool down.

#

Have you tried playing simple games off the ssd with the dongle to see if those games run. like A hat in time, kao and so on that use unreal engine like hogwarts legacy

pretty much, the one i linked you hasnt had any issues yet . Even with a hdd drive that was dying.

Before you buy any sata chords. Always check the transfer/ read speeds. Some may show power requirements in voltage which is always good to know .

i have a sata with power brick? but prob wont change anything or does it?

If the sata drive came with a power adapter its a good idea to use it . Since that means the power from a usb isnt gonna be enough to power to ssd drive.
