You can sell that. The only thing you lose is, if that unidentified item is something you don't already have in your collection, it won't be added to your collection if you sell it before identifying it.

shrug Probably not. You can find the same collection item multiple times, so odds are you'll find it again somewhere else.

Yes. But there are a lot of chests. And sometimes defeated enemies will drop gear items.
And also there are the search spots in the water.
