My 1st character only says 34% done yet all my map shows are locations and beast locations I have passed. What do I do once the main relationship and story quests are done? Merlin Quests I know need done but do not have enough of the item to activate them yet. I am very confused.

Merlin Trials are not quests. You need to explore the map to find more side quests. Fly around casting Revelio and it should reveal them.

So these icons all over the map arent challenge or quest locations to advance in level then and not essential to getting 100% done?

Those icons all mean different things.
It depends entirely on what you're looking for. There's a legend literally right on the map.

There is no tab or button that says legend. If there was this game would be a bit easier to figure out some of the random stuff around the map that needs done.
