Got a new Windows PC and the game from Steam. Using keyboard and mouse. Stuck on prologue. I break the "glass" over an entrance. Then a screen comes up telling me how to select a target. It should be "space bar" to exit but that isn't working. Is there any general guide to keyboard controls? Do I need to buy an unwanted controller to play more easily?

Is it a tap or hold prompt? Some interactions require you to hold down the button in order to properly acknowledge it.

I've played the game on PC using keyboard and mouse at first. You don't have to use a controller. You can play just fine with the mouse and keyboard.
Now, If my memory serves me right, I dont remember anything having to be with the spacebar. To be sure, you can go to settings and check the PC controls of the game to see what you have to do to select a target.

They're not 'choosing' anything with the spacebar, they're talking about the tutorial prompt telling them how to do so and the spacebar being the hotkey to dismiss it.

actually I didn't want to say "choosing". That was a combination of auto correct and fast typing.

In any case, the spacebar is the default keybind for acknowledging/dismissing dialogue boxes.

Yes, that's it. I seem to be unable to respond that I've understood the information and want to progress. Had to exit and restart 2 or 3 times. I start when the transport has crashed and they portkey to outside the ruined castle. I get to "let's see your wand work", click 3 times to get thru barrier. Then the "how to select a target" page comes up. The assumed spacebar symbol appears under the window but nothing lets me progress.
