Other than running up to the picture, is there anything else one needs to get the option to tickle the pear in order to enter? the option wont appare for me.

There is. I think it's when you've completed Jackdaw's quest no matter what House you're in, since that's when Gryffindors are first able to enter it

I know; Hufflepuffs can go in too. But will be interesting to replay and see if Jackdaw really is the milestone.

IIRC correctly, yeah finishing the Jackdaw Quest then gives you access. That’s always been the point where I can enter
