I started the quest and found the phoenix in the first room with the ashwinders and was able to nab sac it. I continued to the peak of the mountain and saw the cut scene of the phoenix trying to get you to follow it, I got to the peak and there was of course no phoenix, since I already nabbed it. The quest will not continue and the only way out of the caver is to abandon the quest. I have put in several hours since this issue and gone back, but not luck in it being resolved.

Abandon it and don't nab sack it until when you're supposed to
Or release it then nab sack it again
Or real I’d from an earlier save before you caught the Phoenix or started the quest.
Generally it’s a good habit to have a manual save right before starting a quest and keeping that save until you complete the quest, at which point save over it.
Just in case something happens like this
You can't release the phoenix.
OP has talked about this problem before, abandoning it doesn't remove the phoenix from their inventory
Been a while
So do like clockwork said and reload a save
Yeah
I've had this problem and I came across a reddit post about this. They said portkey game is working on it, not sure how accurate that is. Hoping they update/patch the game soon so I can complete it already. I want to 100% my game so bad.
all you have To do is wait until your told to capture the bird , rip save files it affects tho
I have experienced the same problem, and honestly it’s a really annoying glitch.
While you have the Phoenix in your inventory, you cannot complete the actual quest (and thus no chance to 100% the game).
Moreover, while I can add the erroneous Phoenix to one of my existing vivariums, it doesn’t unlock the fourth and final vivarium which is normally triggered by completing the phoenix quest.
So I’m stuck on 3/4 vivariums, with all of them already at max capacity with 4 species each.
So if I want to “harvest” phoenix feathers to upgrade my gear, I always need to remove one species from a vivarium first and replace it with the phoenix. It’s doable, but tedious.
I really hope the devs are on this. But from what I can tell this glitch already existed on the PS5/XB versions back in February, and carried over unfixed to the Switch version now.
So there’s been ample time to fix this issue, it just hasn’t happened yet.
The problem is it's a user caused issue not a game caused issue
If you just wait until your told to capture it there would be no issues so it may not be high on their priority list
It may not even be on the priority list
