I recommend bringing a supply of large rocks. If all else fails, switch to Story Mode.

Make sure you get maximum ancient energy and as many wiggenweld potions.
Now try to anticipate and avoid the attacks(you'll understand the pattern after a couple of tries.) Then hit the orbs around him with the spells of the corresponding color and when they are gone, go all ancient on him.
