Need Help with Getting Started

I got the game on Switch last night and I wish they did refunds. I'm so frustrated and searching online for guides for switch is only frustrating me more. I can't even get past the into fight where you have to fight the knights on your own. When I look at videos they all show a red or yellow X above players head letting them know to either dodge or hit the X to trigger protego (hold for stupify) at least this is how I understand it. My game doesn't have the little circles above my players head at all. So I have no idea when to use these so its all guessing and I keep dying. I also don't understand how the down arrow heal button works. It seems it works sometimes and other times it doesn't. Please help me not regret buying this. I was so excited about it but so far the controls are frustrating and so are lack of instructions. I feel like game just threw you in deep end and its sink or swim.

What difficulty are you playing on?

Normal 🥺 should I put it on easy mode so I don't sit here mad all day

Or Story. I know that the icons appear on Story Mode. Or maybe you disabled something in Options.

Under user interface options all are marked as on (section where it has show enemy/target info, show enemy damage numbers etc) 🫤 maybe I'll try Easy for now and see if its better.

I got past it. The color circles still didn't pop up on easy but I got by.
