#I play on steam and it recognised my controller fine earlier, but now it won't recognise it

for xbox controllers it should mostly be plug and play. I dont use HL with a controller but I do use a controller for other games. Otherwise try to go to steam settings and checking that its detecting your controller. Another option is to try and reinstall the device to your pc could fix the issue or simply using the usb cable instead of bluetooth
it was detecting the controller, just wasn't detecting it in the game for whatever reason. This is a usb cable controller btw not bluetooth. Restarting Steam completely fixed it, but annoyingly if I quit HL and go back into it I get this problem again.
I'm not sure how good the official HL controller mapping for Steam is either, sometimes I'll press the button on my controller that it says to (e.g. press r to delete saved game) and it will quit the entire game to desktop
I see that sounds really odd i've never faced this myself for any game could be a game bug maybe verifying game files?
Happens every once in a while with me. I just never bother to check out why it happens. The game never ran smoothly on PC anyway. Im just past the phase of fixing the game issues. I just okay along.
And just like you said, restarting fixes and that has always been the case for me
I havent had issues on the pc personally. On launch yes i did alot of tweaking of notepad files, nvidia settings outside of game settings but the patches solved performance issues for me theres still bugs here and there but its tolerable for the most part.
Agreed. Tolerable is the right word.
ikr the stuttering is so annoying
especially because im on 75 fps and medium settings but ive heard it stutters randomly for everyone
if only the patches could solve my temps
playing on a laptop (from what you said on general) is rough its pretty normal for it to go high like that my only suggestion is to buy a stand of some kind with a fan that could possibly ease the heat . besides that not much you can do really
I have a raised vented stand that I use, I opted against a cooling pad because I heard that they can damage internal components by forcing air inside the laptop and making the fans spin the wrong way. Responses were 50/50 on whether cooling pads are good or not, whilst I saw more favourite responses toward vented stands so I went with the former
I cant comment much on that since im not too sure on that myself but i feel like if its designed for the laptop it should be fine? but why would it be forcing the fan in the opposite direction are you taking off the bottom part of your laptop?
For me it happens the most when the power goes low
power in game?
id assume pc power settings power saver , balanced , high performance
playing on battery vs plugged in will also make a difference
I always play plugged in
I usually set my thing to quiet or balanced mode because I've noticed that otherwise the fans and the temps get far too loud and hot
Yes
something tells me these temperatures are going to damage my components
i could feel the fan through my keyboard.
yeah i'd definetly suggest using the cooling pad but looking around online it seems to be "normal" for laptops
the only other suggestion was repasting and possibly cleaning it up as in open the laptop up which im not sure would help much unless your laptop is old?
I'm going to have to buy a cooling pad with my christmas money, I'm hoping it works and doesn't damage my fans like I've heard ;/
Laptop is less than a year old, I got it last Christmas, and everything I've heard and read says that the thermal paste (I think pads are also used in my model) job is very good and should last the whole lifetime of a laptop, and strongly advise against trying to repaste it since apparently any thermal pastes on the market are worse
No way that this is normal regardless of what the internet is trying to say, at least not normal or good for consistent use or if I want to play this game for a few hours
If you're concerned you should contact the seller and ask or look around online about it. I think repasting will help but if its only 1 yr old it should still be fine. PCs generally should last you about 5 yrs assuming you want to play the new stuff with decent graphics .
As for the heat seeing 80+ on a laptop is unfortunately "normal" due to the fact that it doesnt have as much airflow vs a desktop Ive had a couple of laptops myself in the past and seeing 70-80+ on just OW was normal and thats considered a light game
Lenovo is the seller, I got the laptop from their official website, and the temps are perfectly fine on all my other games so I think its just a Hogwarts Legacy issue
like my other games are typically only 50-60c at most
hmm i see. I mean its probably cause HL is a demanding title. Im not sure what other games you play though.
Starfield, Detroit: Become Human and Genshin Impact are probably my most demanding games apart from hogwarts legacy, and I can run those on ultra
oh wow starfield should def be much more demanding in comparison . that does seem odd then
yeah I'm convinced it's poor optimisation of the pc port
but i heard that ps4-ps5 players also have similar problems with the game
i mean... for PC starfield had bad optimization too from what i saw online. i cant say much seeing pc issues are sometimes odd i had a problem with my pc recently and had to deal with it for 2-3 weeks which was solved by reseating the gpu after countless troubleshooting
yeah starfield had bad optimisation too but HL seems to have legendary awful optimisation especially on 30x0 and 40x0 cards
its so weird because 20x0 cards can run it way smoother
For me personally it was solved by the patches after vanilla install of the game on launch as mentioned i did alot of tweaking to get playable fps. But yes HL was amd bias. You could always look into updating your gpu if you havent already maybe that will fix it?
sadly laptop gpus can't be upgraded
i mean update the software
i'd have to get a brand new laptop but considering 40x0 cards have the same problem i think that would be a waste of money
my drivers? they're on the latest version
oh damn alright then
