No, unforgivables dont work on him, since you have to capture him after you defeat him
I would suggest just lowering difficulty if it is very hard to do
Abandoning quest is not possible, just level up by doing challenges, trials, side quests etc.

you can also just use potions / plants to help you i found the edurus? the one that reduces damage helps alot and of course the other potions will help too

I abandoned it and leveled up for a few hours before going back

I mean, yeah, you can leave the quest, but not abandon as in remove from quest log, that is what I meant, sorry for confusion 😄
