I have this same problem.
I am also having this same issue
even if/when/after restarting the game and my PC itsefl. Sometimes the water disappears entirely

try re validating your game files.
It's a post-processing issue. What GPU are you using?

Do you have the AMD Software app installed
yes that says 24.3.1
Find the application profile in the app for HL. Enter it. Turn off Surface Format Optimization.
Restart PC and load the game.
I don't see surface format optimization. This is what it's showing me

I've been paying for about 30 minutes now and so far none of the bogs or rivers or lakes are glitching anymore no more black lakes or invisible water. Fingers crossed

I may have spoke to soon. Got on to play tonight and it's doing this again whenever I'm by the water
I checked AMD and this is still disabled
when I'm running through the forest and stuff it's fine. gorgeous, beautiful. just when I am looking at or near a river it starts glitching out
Holly Sheet that's some serious issues with post-processing something is really not right with your GPU
it looks like the leaves on the river bed are like trying to take over the sky

I've never had any issue like this with any game. I run CyberPunk and a whole mess of other games on Ultra High and they don't have anything like this
I am running HL on MEDIUM settings and it's giving me graphics calibration issues

I think there's a way to cap frame rate in HL
It's 2am here and I'm about to pass out but try seeing if you can cap it at 45, and no higher
