there are 9 collectiable chests, I have 8. I'm not quite sure where's the last one, I checked locations on the internet, it says aside 1 chest that is from the bandit camp (which I got), all the rest of the chests are in the 2 villages in the region. I've been to the two villages and explored all of them, I don't see any chests icons in the villages on the mini map

Unsure where you are in the main story, but some can be hidden very late game behind dungeons that only appear as you progress friendship quests with Poppy, Natty etc.
You may have also missed the butterflys in the region.

Maybe, but either way worth double checking as you've narrowed it down to a single region.
