#shaders issue on PC

Tried everything over 2-3 days (probably forgetting somethings I have tried):

  • uninstall then reinstall the entire game twice
  • registry prompt changes
  • mod to avoid shader screen
  • turning off shaders on GPU
  • deleting of specific files on app data and program data
  • restarting at various points e.g. after trying another potential fix
  • updating shaders/DLSS
  • clearing shader cache for GPU

PC exceeds recommended spec on every level, it’s the deluxe version, on windows 11 pro, almost every single time I start it gets stuck on shaders and just stops loading.

There have been three occasions I have been able to get into the game and each time I have not been able to recreate what I did.

How is there no fix for this?

There are a few things you can try. Try to set the game to always run as admin for both Hogwartslegacy.exe (one is right in the install folder and other one is inside the Phoenix\Binaries\Win64). For that just right click on application->properties->compatibility->(change settings for all user)->check that run as administrator box.

Second, try to run the game without the save files, in case there is an issue with that. saved files are in (C:\Users~USERNAME~\AppData\Local\Hogwarts Legacy\Saved\SaveGames~random number~) AppData folder is generally hidden so make sure you check the show hidden folders box in view tab on explorer. Copy the save files to a different location and remove them from this folder.
You can always move back your copied save files and your progress will be recovered.

Make sure you don't have any mods or reshade install.
You mentioned that you already tried the registry changes, so i'm assuming you have tried running the sfc /scannow command in cmd for any broken paths?

That is all i can think of tbh.

Thanks for taking the time to write it out, I tried the admin aspect, scans, etc. the most reliable way I initially thought was to delete the app data, program data, reboot and then start up but that isn’t working now. It’s so frustrating. I opened some tickets with WB games but they haven’t responded yet and it’s been 2-3 days. Thanks for trying to help though
