Mayo Clinic approaches the disorder from an extremely clinical point of view. You should also look at blogs by people that have DID or engage in support groups. There are a lot on facebook for example

The clinical POV is good but the lived experience example is super important to learn about too

The name is misleading tbh but its basically a therapy module that focuses on healing the wounded parts and restoring mental balance and harmony by changing the dynamics that create discord among the sub-personalities and the self as a whole

It works for people with really severe BPD and other dissociative disorders

Just so happens that it works extremely well for DID patients because we literally are the "sub-personalities" of the self

Lots of people who actually have DID get misdiagnosed a lot with different disorders before people even think about DID. We were diagnosed with BP and schizophrenia before we actually realized that, no, its DID

The symptoms can mix and mingle and those disorders for sure can be co-morbid with DID but that isn't it in our case

yes i feel the schitzophrenia one because my old pshyc said you have symptoms of it but yet those were symptoms i was told were adhd as a kid and as a teen told that its likely to be osdd or DID

also here is something we wrote earlier in regards to fusion vs integration

Integration is when dissociative walls lessen and communication between alters becomes clearer, easier, and the system is able to function better because of it.

Fusion is when 2 or more alters fuse, and that is when those barriers come down entirely. The distinction between those 2 or more alters becomes harder to tell, where whose memories end and where another starts, personality traits and things like that become unable to be distinguished. It means that the 2 or more alters have become, essentially, 1 alter. They're still the same they were before, just existing in a different way.

Integration is a good thing and fusion is usually a good sign, depending on who you ask. Both mean that healing has taken place, whether it can be outwardly seen, but one is a distinct change in alters nearly permanently.

Just got out from a switch. My alter did and said some pretty serious things I wouldn't condone, and it was kind of dangerous. I don't want to get mad at her, or any of that stuff (Taking advice), and i don't feel too good at the moment. Any tips on how to deal with her (Not meant in a rude way) and to help with afterwards??

First of all make sure you receive any medical attention you may need. If you can keep medical items on hand at all times if they do have s/h tendancies

If you're able to, don't leave dangerous items around. Maybe put a lock on any social media or your phone if they're socially destructive.

Leave journals, notes, and other communication around for them to find. Leave notes explaining support and gently discouraging destructive behaviour. Being aggressive and angry likely won't get a response but try explaining that there are other options and, for example, the journal is free to use to write out how they're feeling

Journals do not work for every system but making one available for anyone to use can be helpful

If you think you might have alters, I suggest keeping a journal, whether it is physical or just creating a private discord server, to be able to let the others talk. We found that creating a plural kit and private discord server encouraged them to do so.

Also take a look at the DSM-5 for the criteria for DID/OSDD to see how many you fit, I understand you may not fit the alters part until they talk to you, if you have them.

Rarely. The headache comes from the brain either severing or reconnecting connections. That takes a lot of strain which can hurt a lot. I tend to find ice and typical migraine methods help

How can you guys tell the difference between random thoughts and alters? I genuinely can't tell if it's just my brain or if it's someone else

Could dissociation make it feel like you haven’t slept in ages?
Because we sleep for like 7.5 hours - we average 8 to 8.5 hours of sleep, but we feel really tired.
It’s normal for us to feel tired despite sleeping, but it’s definitely worse today + we dissociated for 5 minutes in an exam (at least)
