Most I've done is mess around with skill properties, never touched persona names. When I opened up name.tbl to see what was going on I noticed that all names with special characters were replaced with
?s, especially noticable with the untranslated Japanese name personas in the files

I've turned this specific mod into a package file exactly once, which is what I suspect the most likely cause to all this. What this doesn't explain however is that the bug persists even after I replace the corrupted files with new, uncorrupted ones pulled from base.cpk and recompile it back into name.tbl.

now reloaded won't boot up at all

after recompiling a new name.tbl and slotting it back in reloaded returned an error message

when I opened up name.tbl again all but the first two (Arcana and Skills) documents were gone

This can fix if you can still have the ?? trouble.
Open your modified NAME.TBL with 101 editor

  • Search for Ars, and his name, in this case, it will look like Ars??ne
    or
    A
    R
    S
    63 '?'
    63 '?'
    N
    E

replace those ?? with -124 and -99 then you got ur sweet old Arsène
