My idea of how I would've done Dahana(that's her name right?)

The idea being, so her theme is fiery butterflies

So i made her more in line visually that her stances resemble different butterflies and wing positions

So how long does these take?

Back then it took me 1 1/2 hours. Now it tool probably 3. I slowed down due to not painting for long bruf

So if I get the process right

1. You have the sketch on bottom
2. You paint the overall thing
3. With every other layer, you paint over significant areas (like exposed skin or fabric)
4. You change layer types for final vision

You got it a tad bit right. Nice guessing effort . I'll spill the steps here:

1. Sketch phase. Dont make it complex, just make sure everything is on the right place. Focus on composition. Liquify when needed.

2. Block in. I use round brush with low opacity of 20%. Think of what ur character's overall color is; in my case with Dahana-Gharo, her overall scheme is red, so we'll use that. After u decided on what ur character base color, pick a contradicting color of it for BG. In this case, opposite of red, is blue. This create a solid seperation between 2 different areas. After u've done that, drop in base colors. DOnt worry about being too muddy about it, just focus on filling them in

3. Darken everything. Move Hue. Increase saturation. Reduce value. Use CTRL + U for this. Painting is much easier if you work from dark to light

4. Drop in ur lighter colors. Light up areas that's touched by light. Focus on big shapes, small parts after. I use low opacity round brush for this. Afterwards u can add more dynamics by spreading red hue on brighter areas and dark blue hue on darker areas. Use airbrush for that

U can see the face sorta 'glows'. Thats the red hue. And the shirt on the bottom is darkened with blue hue

5. Begin rendering. Work yourself to lighter colors, dont be afraid to paint over things. Fix this and that. Take ur time. Dont forget where the lightsource are. Focus on one area then the other

6. Scream a bit but dont give up. Write something down to express how you feel, but keep continuing

7. Focus on finishing it, then pat urself on the back. U did it ✨

Note: I did everything on ONE layer. Even the BG. Painting works that way most of the time, but of course this is not a limitation- go bonkers

Another note: U can add thin long lines for texture. If u notice, I add plenty of 'em on the hair

More notes: If u want to work on one layer like me, duplicate ur layer before ur bout to make a big change. U dont want to risk it all

MORE NOTES: There's no blend modes here; all effects are manual. So no overlays, color dodges, etc

Lmao, no problem. For the hue bit, it actually a slight shift to either red or blue; if ur character is mostly warm colors, shift it to blue. Opposite happens. SHift it GENTLY, like just 3% more or less

Abs protrude out a bit, yea? They of course cast shadows; from what I see in ur art, the light comes from the left, so shadows should be casted on the right; do the same shade on the abs like how u shade the face, but more minimal, since abs are not as defined as the face

For burn effect u gotta use low opacity brush and just dab the area multiple times. Use slightly darker color than skin, shift to purple
