I've been thinking about an auto-source farm based on Volcanic Sourcelinks and Charcoal with Orchard Trees in Arcane Isles.
The basic idea is to turn Oak Logs into Charcoal and feed it to a Volcanic Sourcelink. This is made automatic and self-sustaining by Orchard Trees, which drop a lot of Oak Logs and most importantly many Apples, around one stack from a big tree. They can be fed into a Composter with a 65% to advance its state - 3 Apples should suffice for a single level. The resulting Bonemeal is fed to the Orchard Saplings. A Turret casts Fell and collects the logs. Saplings are fed to the tree generator, the surplus can be fed to the composter as well. Sticks can be burnt for fuel too. Put everything in an automatic smelter to create Charcoal and feed the Volcanic Sourcelink.
Cons:
- I have no idea whether this can be Source positive in the first place or not. It requires a lot of finetuning, streamlining and maximizing in order to work.
- If it is source positive, it's surely more time and resource consuming than your typical Sourceberry Starbuncle farm. It also occupies a lot of space, that space can be used for many layers of Sourceberry fields.
- Might brick if Apples or Bonemeal are not enough, which can be solved by having another connected automatic farm or just kickstart it with backup bonemeal and apples just in case.
Pros:
- Doesn't require the Grow Glyph, which is important for Arcane Isles because it's locked behind a long cooking questline.
- Doubles up as a fuel generator, which isn't mandatory in Ars Nouveau because of the Smelt Glyph, but surely handy for other automatic purposes.
- If the automatic part doesn't stand on its own, at least it makes itself more bonemeal-efficient because of the apples. This can be connected to another Bone Meal farm (Drygmys targeting Skeletons, Moss farms) and double up as a bone meal generator.
