I think during mangmi Air X launch, some people got issues with dpad and buttons. Mangmi think that teardown to fix button and dpad is too difficult so they came up with modular approach so the dpad and button can easily fix by end users without teardown.

The biggest issue with Pocket Max is that everything is premium except the soc S865.
It is basically a Rp5 portal.
As new company, it has only 2 handhelds to their portfolio which is Air X and Pocket Max. Can they afford Pocket Max launch at 250 for EB and basically people either choose rp6, konkr fit or odin 2 portal over pocket max. Mangmi also know that. Retro handheld is already saturated, the only way to have a successful launch is FOMO for users. Target users with multi devices to purchase pocket Max and by having is less than 200 dollar It will be a better launch with such impressive 7 inches and modular buttons but aging flagship S865.

Conclusion Pocket Max is basically a Rp5 portal.

And instant decode times are much better with a high refresh display. I get ~5ms total delay including network latency on a PC handheld and the Odin 3.

Nothing touches the granularity and responsiveness of a proper stick. Even on the Odin 3 your range of motion is really small.

If you're into racing or FPS games I really struggle with the smaller sticks as there's such a small travel so everything feels really twitchy. Here's a visual indicator. Literally the pot of a full sized stick is bigger than the entire cutaway for even the Odin 3.

I haven't spent much time with it yet, but so far the build quality feels excellent. It has a lot more heft to it than the Portal, so I can definitely see myself using this without a grip more comfortably.

Honestly I wasn't a huge fan of the Portal because of the ergonomics. I also had a Pocket EVO, which blew it away in terms of comfort (and sticks).

Reliability wise, micro mini switch tends to exhibit double click issues like their larger counterparts when switch are press violently stressing the internal metal contacts, so technically they’re not really a better alternative to the dome membrane switch.

If you’re a very gentle guy and does not press hard and squeeze down the switch. These switches are for you, but they’re abit clicky
