#Anbernic RG476H

ofc
tried every possible fork, every setting
cpu just not enough
always bound on it, gpu free
Which GC struggle on the T820
for example f-zero
show us where gc hurt you
There shouldnāt be too many, right
Yeah that sounds about right
not many, just heavy
if it cant heavy then its not gc device, right?
MW struggle also
that's a very black&white take on compatibility
every cop car down fps, and when them too much u get like 20-30 fps
on lowest possible settings
on D900 its like minum 30 at highest possible load
if of the 651 gc games, it plays 600 untweaked, yeah that's gc friendly
still not much, but at least ''playable''
and it just GC, ps2 even worst
almost every heavy tiltle has deeps and struggles
cpu demanding*
what are you basing this on?
expirience with 556
below GC its perfect device
the thing is if a person doesn't plan on playing the heavier games, it doesn't matter. If they're willing to tweak for those upper 20-50 games, it doesn't matter. For everyone else, get an sd865 or d1100 device.
also X86 Vortek give it more space, but nothing more
PS2/GC lvl is start on D900, almost ideal on G1 Gen 2 and above
845 with heavy tune can be decent too (start or little above), T820 u cant do really anything
the average person outside of the RH discord gets a t820 handheld for playstore and maybe xcloud streaming, anyways. emulation is kind of an afterthought
agree, and thats good
They have no reason to be upset when their favorite game isn't working, even though they were told there would be no problems.
like here, if they dont put at least G1 or D900, if G99 that was RIP (ps2/wii
)
Based on my gut feeling, there's a 60% chance that it's a crappy G99.
it is what it is. i see no harm in the soc chosen for the rg476h. Chinese buyers wanted this, so this is what we get.
Yes, in China they perceive everything differently, I've noticed.
They don't sweat it, unless we're talking about geeks, who make up a huge chunk of the population there.
reminds me of jdewitz saying that the powkiddy x28 is popular amongst kids, because its easy to set up for multiplayer android games.
like, stateside you don't see huddles of kids playing Arena of Valor on their devices, because chinese retro handhelds are still hyperniche in the west.
i've only seen maybe... 4 people at work use em. everyone else has a switch or a deck or some gaming laptop
yeah, and that realy sad
300% overclock
Or 60% underclock for some of the other upper-tier games
nothing helped
You enabled the dual core speed hack? Apparently that's disabled by default for f zero gx for whatever reason
Live gameplay, reviews and advice. Feel free to ask questions in the chat or request games for the system that is being shown. Streams usually last around tw...
This shows f zero gx running at full speed on the fire field track
Which iirc is the most demanding track in the game
from my experience big blue is more demanding than the fire track
but yeah I think the t820 can do f-zero fine with the dual core hack
Yeah
Yea it's turned off by default for some reason specifically on this game
Yeah
But yeah just because some people can't be arsed tweaking doesn't mean the T820 isn't capable of playing GC/PS2
GC is mostly plug and play, the higher end games can be played with 60% underclock and backend switching etc
PS2 may need abit more tweaking but that way it's capable of playing like 80% of the PS2 library
I donāt have a problem with T820 and GC/PS2, my issue is paring it a 960p screen but thatās really just a personal nitpick
the proper way to play f-zero gx as the developers intended
Yeah I wouldn't expect to upscale every GC/PS2 title on the t820
Yes, should have paired it with something that can at least 2x majority of the ps2/gc/Wii library.
(>2x needed for most ps2 titles to >=960p as games run below 480i/p)
But if this goes cheap enough would be a perfect n64/DC machine
are we still talking about the RG476H
Yeah there is an argument to be made for PS1/N64/DC on 476H
honestly just don't get this for high end 3D emulation, it's dpad top anyway
My personal preference is prioritizing shaders over upscaling
And you need a beefy chip for the high end shaders
This device will have its audience Iām sure
Just another example of āif you have to ask whoās this for, itās not for youā
can this chip do crt royale? I'm guessing no
Does Anbernic ever release official grip for their devices?
yeah tried, here and there deeps
Doubt
Zfast-CRT should be fine though
T820? No
Iāve noticed that sentiment on the capabilities of older chips shifts dramatically as people justify paying more for more powerful specs to play the exact same 4:3 systems. I remember when I was researching the 406V T820 it was considered a reliable 2x GC chip, save for a handful of games you have to play at native (like Fzero especially on fire field). Now for some reason the T820 and G99 straight up ācanāt even do GCā š
G99 is the minimum chip that I consider GC-friendly without intensive tweaking
Can run up to mid-tier games without tweaking
Maybe the G99 would be a bit too weak for this device and screen but T820 is respectable at least. I think people are exaggerating
But when you get to games like Metroid Prime you're gonna need to change stuff
that how it is, comfort requirements have increased
T820 can do most of the heavier games with minor tweaks
Just don't try playing Rogue Squadron 2 or COD2: Big Red One
yea yea sure
tweaks wont solve problem weak cpu
which are not enough to run gc/ps2 if we talk about full or almost full library
T820 can do most light-mid GC at 2x anyway
true, the problem t820 is cpu, not gpu
And then you have dolphin mmjr2 which supports fractional upscaling (1.5x etc)
this why u can play 2x and over on non cpu demanding games
T820 isn't actually that weak of a CPU
Compare it to the sd845
it is
845 run f-zero perfect / almost out of box
820 can not
snapdragon moment, never forget that
it has better support cpu and gpu
they are not the same
I kinda just assume even the 865 would struggle on these although I never tried. Iām just saying I automatically assume RS2 is an extreme outlier and donāt count on it running. I think it is not a good metric to judge a devices GC prowess on RS2
But you are right
SD845: 4x A75 @ 2.8GHz + 4x A55 @ 1.8GHz
T820: 1x A76 @ 2.7GHz + 3x A76 @ 2.3GHz + 4x A55 @ 2.1GHz
yes
Yeah my RP5 struggles with rogue squadron 2
hardware not everything, it much complicated thing
Megahertz myth
when we talk about emulation
CPU too
Jarvis, compare geekbench scores between the unisoc t820 and sdm845
qualcomm melt dimencity in cpu and gpu support to like Dimencity9000
now they are close in some scenarios
We put Unisoc T820 against Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 to find out which SoC is better. See performance comparison in benchmarks and games.
845 has better GPU
!
T820 has better CPU
No
As i said the t820(, dimensity 900) and sdm845 are in the same power bracket
they are not 820=>845=>900
Do you only play winlator/nintendo switch?
nop, i play GEN6 and above
You also have to consider the versions of emulators being used
just get 845 device and u will understand how u are wrong
any, and yes it will show less scores on geekbench
Iāve never had an Odin 1 but just from the reviews Iāve seen of both, I thought T820 was considerably more powerful than SD845.
most of peoples think that (before i think this too, S845 = U820 but no, not close in stability)
its okey (most underrated device/soc btw, bc of many tubers dont have basic skills to find right settings)
it was first ps2/gc fully capable device out of box, which u can boost to like 30% with manual GPU overclock and some core tweaks (ram/rom)

You guys argue a lot. Let's all agree to disagree. It would be almost impossible to perfectly describe capabilities of these handhelds. Too many factors.
i use them all, so ik how does it perform
not it's actually about the same, in some instances the 845 might perform better, in other worse, but they are within spitting distance
Odin 1 is old but the 845 on a handheld was pretty disruptive when it came out, it still holds up
they are same until u run realy heavy game
gc or ps2 or above
some of them will be close with heavy tweaks, some not (845 with tweaks can anything) with overclock anything + 30%, D900 with basic setting can anything too
i never say t820 bad, but it just not that good as 845 and 900
i just walk away at a certain point. I've tested the heavy games as well. they run, but if someone wants to die on the "this can't play gc/ps2/3ds/vita/etc. hill" whatever man
the "no you can't use a t820 because it can't play X" gatekeeping bogs down the whole reason we make these channels.
This will be a solid PSX and lower machine if they get the price correct. Over 160 and then there are better options.
dreamcast and n64 as well
Yeah that too. I just don't play those systems much
Use the 50fps pal version
tried year-2 ago, doesnt helped allot, but better
nah no need, you can do f zero just fine at 60 if you enable dual core
I need this
t820 is plenty of perf for what I care about on handhelds
and this is just a nice big 120hz slab
Iām just gonna swap my 477M internals into the 476 shell !
Shoulder triggers may be an issue tho
t820 power efficiency/not having to use the fan is the appeal of this one to me
It is 'disappointing' for the lack of a better word because they could have used their newer chip. But i really like my T820 handheld , i can play all the Wii and GC i want and finished a bunch of light Switch games on it. Currently finishing Hollow Knight
There's a mod for Mario Wonder also , it runs very well at 30fps if anyone is interested
Is it possible ?
The only GC game i couldn't run was Baldur's Gate 3 but the Switch version runs well on that chip , and also Rogue Squadron
FZero runs well with Dolphin VBI skip
i only use pal versions. its like a 20% boost in performance
they could have done but that chip has had issues with heat and battery, despite the great performance. That power has tradeoffs š but yeah the t820 hatefucking is kinda odd
The T820 seems to have about 50% more power than the T618 that was in the 405M going by geekbench 6. It has exactly half the power of the Dimensity 8300 found in the 477M.
They could release a Gen2 handheld and we would still complain about it
They already know that at this point š
I never got the t820 hate, especially the line about it not being able to handle ALL GameCube and ps2. Seems that the titles the t820 struggles to play are the titles everything struggles to play. Especially things like rogue leader and fzero. I mean yeah a rp5 can play mostly the same games at 2x resolution, but are you really going to notice when youāre just playing the game?
I loved my T820 devices
Well I loved the chip
The devices themselves could use some improvement
You take that back, the 406v is perfect
A DMG version of it would be perfect , i don't like the colors they did for it and i have one.
Not a fan of the diamond cutter nipple thumbsticks in all honesty lol
Otherwise yes Iād agree
Thatās true, I wouldāve preferred dmg buttons on my grey unit or better yet if they had done wood grain again
WOODGRAIN
the 405v laughs
Cries is 480p
its the mentality of always wanting the best/newest thing and devaluing anything lower. already people are lining up to sell their Odin 2's for the Thor, or their legion go's for the legion go 2's. Capitolist zombie mentality
its not about mentality
thor just better then odin 2
thats it
with x86 harder, for example if compare z1e and z2e, it has huge performance boost on 17w
bc on 17w it can reapeat what can z1e with 25w or 30w
exact the same performance, huge efficiency boost for real

these ain't rg476h specs
Did they say when more info is coming on the 476h or just that one teaser video is all we know?
anbernic usually quite fast to release from their announcement video, like within a month?
what additional info you need anyway that is not out? price?
what more info do you want? this is like the 556,406,CUBE and SLIDE, just with the 4.7" 120hz 1280x960 screen, we already have seen in the SLIDE and 477m
they honestly could just drop names and we would have 90% of the infos
I love to do such projects. Could work, but yeah, the shoulders and triggers are gonna be an issue.
Yeah I guess price and anticipated release
Anbernic products tend to go on sale often. I highly recommend waiting 2 months after release. Especially with the 11.11 sale on AliExpress
instructions unclear fomoed 48h entry price
there's no need for more info. it's just the same t820 board from the 406h in the rg477's shell
I'm sure Russ and other youtubers will get their hands early for review
But I don't really expect any big surprises. All the parts used are probably same as in other Anbernic devices
This
I hope it ain't like the last few Anbernic devices where they've put unnecessary embargoes on reviews
He's gotta be some troll/ragebait thingy
Do we need specs?
Itās the 477 screen and the 406 chip
Price is the only unknown, but even that is gonna be more than 406 less than slide
I don't, some others maybe
So not a huge window
Will it be more than 406 though, been out a while
that's kinda the expected price, with $15 off early bird
yh
you are really choosing between better screen and better specs if it was 150 so I think it's overall balanced
Does it?
It has a far nicer screen
somone can pick it instead bigger rp4pro
far weaker specs too
even it way more weaker
$149 early offer makes it no-brainer for those who want a big 4:3 screen, so probably that
RP4P has better chip but everything else about it is worse.
I can run pokemon at 10x now ??? š„ š„ š„
yup. 4:3 content on RP4P is sooo small
No because emulation barely uses the gpu
For 2d systems it literally doesnāt use it at all
Miyoo mini plus doesnāt even have one
Yeah Iām not in any huge rush was just curious
Only other concern in the US is the whole tariff situation currently
With Odin 3, Thor, and Konkr pocket available, I feel less and less reason to buy anything else.
I honestly don't really care about ps2 or gamecube emulation when it comes to mid ranger or relatively lower end handhelds so it would be a pretty easy choice for me to choose the rg476m over the rp4p. But for many people the extra TWICE power would matter a lot if they really wanna get into those systems on the go
This is how I feel Iām playing ps2 and GameCube on a different device.
It's all because of those thick bezels on the device. Like the rp4p shell could easily fit a 5.3 inch screen if the formfactor was ever modernized
4.7ā 4:3 is equivalent to playing 4:3 games on a nearly 6ā 16:9
5.5" 16:9 is 4.5" 4:3
6" 16:9 is 4.9" 4:3
both are 0.2" removed from an 4.7" panel, pick your comparison wisely
Bigger display area than my rp5 for 4:3 games and 120hz
Didnāt you get the 477m?
And hopefully sticks that arenāt so close to abxy to be in the way
No
No gammaOS on that chipset yet
And now no 8gb sku and the 12 is insane
I was tempted by the slide but the ergo seems bad
Ok yeah, then waiting for this at least makes more sense than getting the 477m nowadays (since they got rid of the 8gb sku).
So this is ideal for me
Anbernic will probably release another device with 4.7 same screen
476sp pls
I still canāt believe how wild the G3Gen3 Pocket Fitās Super EB price is. Thatās literally freaking $30-$40 less than the only available 477M sku, and itās still like $10 less than the 557.
150 dollar 476sp anbernic and you can have my soul
I believe in 476SP more than in 476V
Hell, even after Super, regular EB will still be like $10-$20 less than 477m and only $15-$20 more than 557.
Itās the base model, so itās both only black color and also only 8/128, but thatās still freaking insane for G3 Gen 3.
its absolutely nuts š you must be tempted
What if the 477v came in a dark mahogany wood grain
I already pre-ordered a 12/256 yellow one, with plans to upgrade to either 16/512 (only $50 more), or even 16/1tb(only $100 more).
It's gonna be a plate at this point, 406V is already kinda big
do you think they will allow you to upgrade to super early bird prices tho?
They did with the Pocket Ace and also the DS. Pocket Ace specifically had that extra discount from following the release via email, and they still only charged me the difference between the EB versions, they didnāt charge me extra to āmake the price equalā.
fair enough then
But regardless yeah, itās kind of exciting when freaking AYANEO of all companies is going for really good value.
Both have Mali gpus and same compatibility profiles so it doesn't really matter
whether you play super Mario 3d land at 2x or 3x, its still the same game. T820 and d1100 are both on the same plateau
This is like trying to ban someone from your darktide 4man because they have a gtx1650 instead of a 3080. Doesn't matter as long as they dont drag the team down
I want a gameboy so fat it feels to my adult hands the way the OG DMG did to my 8 year old hands
Soā¦Deckboy (vertical Steam Deck) maybe?
I'd use it
as far as I'm aware the t820 doesn't play most of the library of gamecube while the d1100 does almost all of it
T820 plays basically all of gamecube
Did dolphin advance to that point?
This is my biggest interest with this.
Maybe you're confusing it with T618? T820 was pretty capable even a year ago I think
I canāt say Iāve tried everything but I havenāt run into a GC issue yet on my rg406h
Maybe russ talked about the ps2 library not being able to be run?
I did play god of war which at first was not going well then I found some settings on Reddit and it solved all my issues with the red orbs breaking the game.
you are very very misinformed
when the 556 first launched, there was a lot of "this processor can't play 6th gen" until game tests began dropping. then that crowd went silent. As soon as tests stopped, they went back to "t820 can't play 6th gen." It's not really worth going back and challenging that level of contempt?

monospace is sort of the voiceless brute-force console tester of the youtubers. he gives it a 97% rating on gamecube. his samples are usually like 20-50 games though. gamecube has 651 releases.
best remedy for your concern is to go to this list:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_GameCube_games
pick out some titles and try them if you can't find a video of the gameplay. either that or get someone else to test those games for you. I guarrantee absolutely nobody has tested the Cabela or Disney Sports titles, so start with those and work down through the alphabet
but also, just remember! Only a few of us will care you did it! even if you publish a "Icediamondshark's 651-game rg476h gamecube test" movie. Anyways, want to see what btfo's naysayers?
https://youtu.be/V0Ancmparr8
weirdly, the gpu isn't overloaded at all with this setting.
600p(1.25x) | -1/2EE | 120% speed
00:00 - Journey down into the boss pit
02:00 - boss emerges
03:30 - finally hit him in the foot
05:19 - spot 1
06:31 - spot 2 + end
and u call this shit run good?
slide show, T820 how it is
Yes. š
Rp4pro runs it smoother but has worse Vulkan and opengl drivers, so the ground-crack polygons underneath boss 2 pop in every time he steps and render over the dust. It looks awful
Idk man if you want perfect PS2 performance without tweaks just get an SD865/D1200 or better rather than vocally dying on the "T820 isn't PS2/GC friendly because I can't be fucked going into menus" hill
T820 can already play practically the latter's full library, might need a 60% underclock for heavy hitters like NFS:MW but what gives
i didnt say t820 cant ps2/gc, i say its not good how blind fans say/think (is taking into account all the tweaks)
Lebowski.jpg
Maybe the worth of the device isn't in how well it runs ps2 and gc games
I'll be fair, it doesn't look great. That said I wouldn't be trying to run those systems on t820 anyway
Trust me. I wish this had a better chip
typical use-case for me. Unreal Tournament 2004, NFS:U2 pc edition, a bit of SAO: Hollow Realization in vita3k. I have gc/ps2 games i like, but they aren't reasons i play the device
Maybe thereās a reason the D pads on top š
quake 3 for ps2 is definitely on the "can't be bothered to play the android version" list, if you can't be bothered to run the og pc version in winlator
Oh for sure. I really just want this to be a plastic 477m heh
Cause then they go stacked triggers and it becomes a real head scratcher
One day Anbernic might get all the Frankenstein parts in the exact configuration you want š¤£
Feel like Anbernic journey into mid tier has been a real headscratch journey
Must be fun working for them āguys I have a crazy idea!ā
āLetās do itā
They could just put them in a configuration that makes sense and I'd nod my head š
you could just like.... have no expectations and make the best of what they release
maybe that's -too- positive though
This one gets pretty damn close to what Iām looking for. A nice 4:3 screen to play mostly handhelds and 5th gen
It's not being negative. Head scratching isn't necessarily a negative thing, more like, ok, that's different
Anything newer Iād rather just play on my Odin
there are some basic prereqs though... like 'can it play dragon quest builders natively at medium graphics' or 'is Asphalt 9 smooth or stutter-hell' or 'does Sky:Children of Light even run?'
the 405-series ran sky, but the xx6-series are all unsupported. š
But yeah. Inline shoulders on this and it'd be perfect for the retro consoles it can actually run. Stacked triggers on the 477m and likewise. I mean they likely didn't do that cause metal, but still
this is to the 477m as the CubeXX is to the Cube
oh god... i cursed us. we're going to get a 47xx now
Hehe
I was amazed to see some people already saying the Portal is old lol The device came out not even a year ago.
To be fair. This last round of pricing has been pretty aggressive. Heh
Anbernic will probably upload a showcase video this week with performance and then in 2 weeks it will be on Aliexpress
47xxV
all I know is in one month time we'll see this screen again in something else lol
True
if they price this device competitively to the rp4p then I'll definitely be conteplating if I want to get it or not
that's a strange way of saying you'll be preordering day one
are you that comfident in it's cheapness?
nah it won't be cheaper than a rp4p realistically
I fully expect $180, maybe $170 with the first 48h discount
i expect whatever the slide was at release minus 15-20 bucks
if someone wants to test this for ps2, here is a good list of games to go by based on rankings... top 20/100 should be worth looking into. ps2 has 3000+ releases, so it's kinda impossible to do everything
https://www.mobygames.com/platform/ps2/
if the analogs are shit, Okami(#1) will not be playable
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MwF95nwXvd4
VF4 for instance has been tested and played to death because of the arcade gamer following, but SOCOM? only Monospace tested it, and it was a small clip of the first level of the third game.
How good is the performance of VF4EVO on the Anbernic RG 406H?

Theyāve had decent sticks recently so hopefully they donāt go backwards on those
556 had the worst sticks, but they could be broken in. 406h and 406v were the best, and the cube was dead center.
people complained that the sticks were too small even though they were full-range, so largely a nothingburger issue
if you can pull off spells in Okami, they're good sticks.
it integer scales NDS so I'm pretty sure we're gonna see two of this screen in a Dsi XL clone soon
From d8300 to t820 to t620 (rumoured chip for the DS), this screen seems to be travelling down, next one h700? š¤£
RG47XX DS would rule lol
I do love the 406h sticks š
47xxV
So of this is t820 how much weaker is it than 47m?
x allot time
Needs to be something that can run PS1 at enhanced resolution smoothly, not the H700.
not sure if that would fit in your pocket tbh
from my mesurements a vertical handheld can only go with around a 4 inch screen if you want 4:3, or something taller
Do we have a guess for a launch time on this guy?
I think the assumption is < a month
if the price is around 140-150, it could be a decent alternative
for anything PSP and under, PSP on this screen seems good as it is the same size as the OG hardware
whilst you have power to upscale it to 4x
but if it's 160 and above, yeah imma just go for the RP Mini v2
It does way more than PSP and under though
let's not ignite that dumb argument again.
tinkerers can get get all the way up to wii-u, vita, switch, and pc 7th gen running on t820.
non-tinkerers say the wall stops at like... dreamcast.
It's entertaining to read though
There's a whole study on this:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Truth-default_theory
You're very invested in this, its almost adorable
In 3 months when the Odin 3 pro comes out , the Portal will be a great N64 and under device
The RG476H features a full-screen, elegant design, available in three color options: black, gray, and indigo.
It is equipped with a 4.7-inch Boe custom screen, utilizing LTPS IPS (low-temperature polycrystalline silicon) technology. The display features a 4:3 golden ratio, 1280x960 resolution, and supports a high 120Hz refresh rate, a 1200:1 co...
Lol
Jank ds setup still
Hmmm why does the retro colour have a black bezel
While the purple doesn't
Seems like the black one also doesn't have it, only the tan retro color
Ew, the bezel size difference
maybe they did that to the retro one because it's a lighter color?
Agreed. Bezel looks awful
measuring it by finger it seems the same thickness
Huh, good spot
Would probs get black model then because of bezel
if i were to choose, just gonna go black for this one
either black or the retro one
the gc purple looks like its a bit crooked
Yeah, for GC I don't see the point if they don't commit fully with the yellow right stick. Grey looks nice but I'd want to change the buttons to PS1 ones, and those ain't cheap. Black looks good but I wish the text on the buttons was white
now that i think about it, the 477M should have a black colorway
now here's hoping the 476h at least has the 406 sticks
and not the 557's
They deffo look more like the 406 ones
yeah like i can see the white base below whenever it's fully tilted
so at least that's good, shame that the 557 doesn't have those
I'm in, just sell it to me now, it has already been 9hours since I ordered my last handheld
Mate you need sleep not more handhelds!
recognize frame drops on pal gow, šÆ T820
man, you already suppose to get air pocket mini from your overspending on pocket s2, what more need do you have for t820? this isn't life pokemon to catch them all
you have a sickness man
just some disposable income
This is the one and only case where i don't mind the bezel. It fits the 'retro' vibe this color is going for
The Snes buttons on the GC model bother me way more
anbernic and slightly screwing up the colorways - name a more iconic duo
slightly? a lot of the time it's so bad that you contemplate if you even want the device
you mean like taking their premium device and only releasing it in chocolate bronze and unfinished raw aluminum casting color
can they sell that gorgeous 4.7" 120hz screen as external monitor/dual
a lot of DIY projects can be made from this screen
G-Boy screen for example
holyshit
considering retroid is selling theirs for $70. please sell it at $50 or less
it's a custom panel, I think theirs would be more expensive
fuck it, sell at $70 to match retroid
how much is RG476H anyway? RG Slide is already $180
I would rather expect $80-90, unlike Retroid just selling an off the shelf screen, Anbernic would want to make the investment of the custom screen back
I'd expect a similar price tbh
wtf?
nah, less, no Sliding, maybe $165 at worst $170
But ~150 would make it perfect (unlikely doe)
that's not even a good difference lol. might as well get the slide
and a few bucks off the first few days, putting it close to $150
With the glass front and 477 screen I'd expect it to be equal but yeah if it's lower god bless
nah, you don't want that, trust me š
is slide that bad?
It's just a chunky mf iirc
dude, even ayaneo is dropping prices
Quite top heavy
not if you consider it training
are you top heavy as well? provided you;re a girl
it's impossible to hold comfortable at a good viewing angle
you can play it at 90°, but that kinda sucks
a grip will run you 20bucks and even then the ergo is just okay
you baited me with that icon
thought you were a girl
I love how they drop the DS feature š
why anbernic keeps missing?
It's not retroid's screen right
I mean, it's a fun little fidget toy, just impractical to actually play with
and rg467h has bottom analog stick
FUCK why are they missing so hard
that's totally fine, easy to reach on the 477m too
they're missing because they feel they can get away with it, which is prob true š
honestly they should just make an SP with this screen, with h700 or whatever
Please let the H700 rest in peace
honestly anything to cut the price down+ that 4.7" screen
This device but in linux would be pretty much perfect for me
T820 flip would be nice , the H700 is too weak for a Flip with a good screen
but T820 flip will touch near thor price of $250
Whatās the benefits of the top stick vs bottom stick? I thought this device being lowered powered it would make sense to be Dpad centric?
Iāve only ever used my Odin 2 Portal and a RG 35xx SP, so bear with me on my lack of exp.
Next up dual screen handheld from Anbernic, just wait and see š
I always want dpad top
Wtf dual screen was that? Looked like a 3d printed shell for that 2nd screen. Also does their OS support dual screen now? Lol
Hope so
It's just Android
Just? Android doesn't support dual screen by default.
So anbernic updated theirs or is about to I guess. Or did some jank setup to display it maybe.
You can plug a display into an Android device and have it go to desktop mode right? Like by default it will just mirror the screen, but you can change that and then even use the Android device as a trackpad input device for the big screen
Like people were doing that on the RG Cube last year
Many android devices do not support display out
Though the same when they showed that second screen thingy on the video lol
are the sticks again the switch-style ones?
Anbernic is pretty good at doing "it plays everything" showcases.
Are they not bothering with posting specs? Just vids
Nothing official is out, but people are speculating based on the model number. 476H.
47 for 4.7" screen, 6 for 6 series, H for horizontal. The other 6 series are T820.
I like the idea of this, but with it not being able to play PS2 confortably maks me apprehensive and still want to consider the 477M. It's hard to be fully on board. I guess once more info comes out, prices etc.. we will see.
it's the 477m with a plastic body and a t820 processor.
I want the 477M with a plastic body.. period lol
(shrug) message max. see if he responds?
I'd even take the inline shoulders
Max said he wouldn't do it to someone else
but then here is this..
so maybe that is what he meant lol
a real chad move: rg473h with the rk3566 processor
I just need confirmation š
Honestly this screen with whatever can handle ps1 at 2x resolution without dropping frames is all that i need (and preferably linux)
ah you need anbernic to tell you the new rgXX6 device is a t820. fair enough
I just need confirmation š
The name itself is a confirmation
They might throw a curve ball
No
just let them wait it out. this is anti-dogma playing itself out
Youāre overthinking
u dont need
just watch gameplay what they post on ps2, and u will understand it was 200% t820
Oled 7ā with a 395+

this is the color that I wanted
always something with Anbernic
the extra bezels on the retro color also show on the 3d rendered model on the video
so looks like an intentional choice not just a preprod unit quirk
Plot twist : it's a Gen3 SD
I think the reason for the bezel difference is that they couldn't get the screen cut out symmetrically perfect
and this is camouflaged in the black/indigo colorways, but would have been evident in the grey one without some creativity on their part
Ah no , bro. Anbernic is always worried about design , so they left that small black bezel in there to fit the retro aesthetics to a T
or that lol
See it has more bezels cause it's "More retro" that way
I want a 1" screen with 3" bezels
PeoPle here don't understand art.
I'm praying the triggers won't be clicky and loud
Definitely getting this one, would have gotten the 477 if the colors weren't horrible
would have gotten 477m if it wasn't so expensive
partially because of the metalic shell, partially because I don't really care for the expensive chipset they used
Like the original Gameboy
It looks cute on the DMG model imo , like it fits the whole aesthetic of it ( for me )
It's still the best color imo
Black is boring and the Snes buttons on the GC model are OCD triggering
I have my 556 and cube with me. What ps2 or gc games were you interested in? I can scrcpy footage directly to my laptop
Iād be keen to see how Final Fantasy XII runs imo
that ran on like... t618 devices without any issues. i think i already have it on my 556.
sweet
most ps2 I want to play is rpgs so that's good haha
Just a quick vid for the rg476h chat
this is without any tweaks
the hardest rpg i've played for ps2 is Shining Force EXA and it's hundred enemy doggypile fights, and those aren't bad at all with 1 level of EE skip
tbh, i play more on the cube than the 556. its the cheapest, dopiest, more pocketable of all the t820 devices. got mine used for like 75usd
One thing that is cool about the T820 is how many e-shop and lighter Switch games it can run
Luigi's Mansion 2 run well which impressed me. I finished all the Blasphemous games on it too
I have also played a dumb amount of switch games on 556. Hello kitty island adventure is up there on the 'plays perfect' list. I unexpectedly liked it enough to buy it on steam
Cult of the Lamb , Crypt Custodian, Diablo 3 , Dave The Diver , Atomic Crops , Call of Juarez ...
What do you use? Sudachi or something else?
I use all of them haha Sudachi , Citron and Yuzu
I haven't tried Eden on my 406V yet
The challenge is like... Sampling a wide spectrum of games instead of.. the 10 out of 3000+ games that are hard to emulate.
I just don't want to worry but I appreicate you asking.
I have an Odin 2.. So I'll just use that, but I really really like the 477M design wise.
if you have an odin 2, stay with the odin 2. nothing else out is going to touch that bloody thing. you might dig the cube or the 406v
One small advantage of the T820 over the Flip 2 , is that i had Luigi's Mansion running plug and play style and on my Flip2 i had to look for the correct driver and it only works well on the new version of Eden.
The early bird price is $160. I was expecting $150, so not that big of a difference. Still a bit too expensive, gonna wait for sales.
I just found out that this will cost $175 and pre-order is $160
Do we have full specs now?
As usual the price got leaked to these YouTubers
Retrododo asked for the info and the only thing anbernic shared is the price. No release date, no spec sheet yet
Eh best to wait for official confirmation
Hopefully it launches before Friday so we can use some of the current AliExpress coupons on it
Prob not gonna happen... Shame, cause the RG477M was released during an AliExpress sale
Early bird at 159, but probably there will be late bird price of 120 usd on Aliexpres, two months after the release xD
Yeah thatās too much Iāll wait for that late bird pricing š¤£
175$ is too much when the 406H is on sale for 140$ and it's the same handheld
175$ is last year's price for that chip when it was "new"
š¤·š¼ thankfully nobody is forcing us to buy it now š
Apart from the screen
406H has better joystick positions
Or ever š
exactly š it's not like anbernic is bursting into your house and threatening to have sex with your handhelds while giving intense eye contact unless you buy it š
Hard pass if this is accurate. If the ayaneo air mini is $140, this thing is doa
For me anyway
Shame, this has potential
This has a 4.7" 120hz screen tho. The AyaNeo one is only 4.2" right? Do we know its refresh rate yet?
I think the only reason to grab a t820 if you have an odin 2 is for a more pocketable carry with you handheld, but then why wouldnāt you just get one of the h700 devices or another Linux guy and use that for gba and below when your out and about.
i think it's the screen size is the saviour
175? They're really milking this screen
and there's a market for the middle range that can play up to saturn comfortably
but yeah they need to bring the price down to 150$
60hz, or else we would know it's 120hz
you really trusting ayaneo?
Trust what?
Are you trusting Anbernic?
Cause like, AYANEO can be pretty bad, but they at least look like theyāre trying to do better nowadays.
will anbernic wipe my system data randomly like the pocket air?
Surprisingly enough, yes actually. Itās the whole reason I had to install GammaOS to my RG505 since I had to use an unbricker to fix the issue.
Will the screen have ghost touches, like the Odin 2?
Can say that about any Chinese handheld manufacturer
Meanwhile I was using my Pocket Micro for a long as time, and now using the Pocket Ace for almost an equally long time, and neither have had any issues with the software beyond some weirdness in updating the Pocket Microās built-in controller.
also the screen is the same as the slide so it should be 120 hertz
Although the main issue with AYANEO was usually more often the hardware. Which is why I mentioned that itās good how they look like theyāre trying to do better nowadays.
this screen is the star of the show for sure
bfi on da super nintendo š„š„š„
4.7" means its even bigger for 4:3 than the rp5, almost as big as the new odin 3/thor screen
Meanwhile, Anbernic still is doing this level of shit from my own experience.
also no persistance issues like the rp5 screen and double the refresh rate
4.9" for 4:3 on 6" 16:9, tiny ass Anbernic screen
good to see we have this company vs company dickslinging today š
0.2" for 160 usd vs 300+?
$479
God damnit, weāve already done this.
honestly if the thor were dpad top I'd have ordered one already lol
but that dpad does not look usable
How are we just repeating the loop?
it totally won't be, it's going to be worse than on the 3DS for sure
476SP wen
both handhelds will be used to play super mario world

what else, do you expect me to Winlator on any of these, like the Odin 3?
winlator fans when you show them a fun emulator to use i think idk
hate using winlator its so jank
Oh, you mean like Linux Fans?
Winlator is kind of addicting, like playing the lottery to see if a game runs or not
gotta put Retroarch and Dolphin on there and call it a day, if at all
Mario World can only be played on the 35XX
tell that to the people that slept on the early bird rg477m pricing
The Rg477m 12gb model can be found for $220 right now
It always pays to wait with acknerbic
I have not seen this price for Europe!
Look for the crownpuff spreadsheet
You could even say something similar about the great manufacturers out there like Nintendo for example. Stick drift and connection problems with the joy cons were a big deal with the first Switch.
No such discount for Europe as said.
Well I mean I didn't say ā¬220 I said $220
Basically the same thing
How much this cost
~170
Hmmm
same as rgSlide, but a larger 4:3 screen
I thought RG slide had the same screen
both are 4.7" ltps and laminated. huh
for some reason, i thought the rgslide was smaller and pocketable, not as thick as the 406v
the Slide is a fucking brick
slide is a very weird thing
I wanted to love the Slide so much lol. That thing is unloveable
The screen on this and the 477 a.m. and also the slide is probably one of my favorite ever screens even though it's not oled it just looks freaking awesome at 120 Hertz with that huge 4:3 screen
BFI, if you like that
not by default but you can do fancy shit like BFI or CRT Beam Simulator to improve motion clarity
Yeah was wondering other than bfi
BFI really interests me but then I keep reading everyone sees it differently, some donāt like it etc
Might be useful for certain crt shaders or something like that. I heard 240hz enables a premium crt shader
Not sure about the details
it may also help a little bit with input lag
Oh for sure
basically it's a nice to have, but not a must
for my taste the difference is extremely tiny and I'd rather save the battery life lol
Does 120 hz screen drain the battery anymore than a 60 hz?
ofc
What would be nice is if this pushes more companies into developing higher end devices with (good) 4:3 screens
16:9 is a waste
You can laugh but 95% of my gaming is at 4:3 and there are a glut of 16:9 devices already.
I wonder if the Retroid founder guy really did mortgage his house to fund a OLED 4:3 screen
lets hope so or else he will have a hard time selling anything to me
it will retail for $174.99 (excluding shipping), and there will be an early bird offer in the first 72 hours of pre-orders, which will reduce the handheld to $159.99.
RIP RG476H
so msrp is $15 cheaper than the slide and $8 more than the 406h
We knew it was gonna be somewhere in that $23 window lol
Yeah not surprised by any mean but Iāll wait for it to god on sale in 2 months hah
It'll be $120ish before the end of the year
Hard pass at $160 for a t820 device. Weak sauce.
For ~$30 more, get the rp mini that will run circles around this, emulation wise, and has OLED
but a dinky 8:7 screen instead of big 4:3
no shade on the Mini V2 tho
but the 4.7" display on this is awesome
this
I want the anbernic face buttons and dpad over then MINI V2
Yeah thereās no way Iād get the Mini V2 for 4:3, that thing is tiny
Mini is good but the button are a miss
buttons are very easy to mod actually! I replaced the rubber membrane behind them with one from a mm+ on mine and they are golden now
now I just wish it had a more classic Nintendo style dpad rather than a clicky vita one
for 220 dollars should not have to mod
I agree, but hey better than not having a solution
I did this with a rp3 membrane still lacks compare to most anbernic handhelds
um, the rp3 buttons are also clacky, I wouldn't use that membrane
with an mm+ membrane they are very close to Anbernic style
does make much of difference. plus you have to buy those making the v2 mini now 240ish and still not a real fix. so for some to say just get the rp mini and spend 2 hours and more money trying to fix it does compute to me
I'll wait for reviews and sales. I generally like Anbernic buttons and I like the screen. I really don't care about playing PS2 or Gamecube on a handheld really - for those I'd rather play in my living room. For all the people that dismiss this outright just because of PS2/GC performance, I feel the same way about compromising on screen size. 120hz, correct aspect ratio, and 2x integer scale is more important to me than performance on games I'm not going to play on a handheld anyway.
some people are willing to wait three months to save $40, others would rather just skip a few fast food runs
yeah android sixth gen and up is still far enough behind x86 that I'd rather use a PC (handheld or otherwise) for those games
i'd be interested in this if I didn't have the Cube, but i support its existence as someone with two t820's
I have a 477m and I still plan on getting the indigo 476h. The screen is too good.
477 and 557 are both good upper limit android devices. it would be nice if anbernic did x86 again so they can fully cover 7th-gen emulation and pc gaming
ill wait for aliexpress coupons
if it wasnt 160 + tax + 15 usd shipping id get it (it's about 200 USD as a canadian)
there should at least be a 15usd coupon AT LAUNCH
It's 160 after $15 off coupon
YEAH
I have a 406v atm
looking at this as a way of getting 120hz + 0.7" bigger screen in a similar sized device
devices in that kinda 40xxH -> rp5 size bracket are the best size for an airplane
FWIW I've been firming up the global BFI implementation on GammaOS to prevent image retention, these panels still get it with raw dogging BFI. Making good progress now with built in polarity switching at 120hz BFI
yeah same for me, i've sold my O2 Portal to upgrade my pc and ive dabbled in PCSX2 and wow the difference in stability and performance for x86 is noticeable
my mindset now have changed to handhelds now at least be able to handle PSP well then ill buy it
no need for more power
if the price of the 476h is around the same as the 406h/v here in malaysia then i'll go for that
welp at least anbernic has a new screen to milk with lol, hoping for a flip SP handheld from them with this screen
to compete with the Flip 2
How much was it selling in MSIA for the 406h/v? ty
around rm 700-rm 750
although sometimes on shoppee my it can go on sales and can get them below 700
whilst the RP5 is selling around 1000 - 1100 ringgit here
so around 230$ ~
Itās the buttons, not the membrane. Aftermarket resin buttons are a massive improvement. But I agree it sucks they havenāt figured out face buttons on a $200+ device while Anbernic has been pretty much nailing it on every device besides their flips
But Iād rather there be a simple $25 fix than no fix at all. Iāve sold two devices I really wanted to love but couldnāt simply due to them having bad face buttons and I found there was no viable solution: RG 35xxsp and Ayaneo Geek.

T820 Confirmed
It is very confusing this has analog triggers and 477M has inline š¤
just lemme buy it
I feel like the 477M has inline because they were set on making a metal console and it's probably cheaper to not have that shape that the stacked analog triggers needs in the metal
True. Just feels odd to give the device with more power inline š¤·š»āāļø
oh 100%, I'm sure as soon as they make a 477H it'll have analog triggers
although they've done weird stuff before I'm sure
yeah because cnc-ing those trigger bumps into the 477 shell would be expensive, but it's simple on plastic duh
Fair enough š¤·š»āāļø
UFS2.2 is kinda wild, wasn't it 3.1 on the other rg006 models?
But be sure that the coming 477H won't have these cool colors.
Anbernic doesn't make sense most of the time. So normal for them lol
I'm going to guess it'll have a retro colour grey but with wrong buttons, a transparent one that looks a bit gross, and brown
The rule is black , white with huge black bezels and smokey purple that looks brown
Expected but sad š
Was going to happen lol
Late bird it is š
Looked it up, and apparently itās not
Which is so weird, how come Iāve never noticed, always assumed itās 3.1
Transparent Burt Orange (brown)
I'm in the hopium camp that they are holding out on the 477H in time for when the rp6 gonna be released
Which might be right around Nov
price?
I don't think it's been revealed yet. Similar to other devices with same chip I'm sure.
#š„āupcoming-chat message
rp4p remains the king
This is ayaneos opportunity to give the pocket air mini a g1 gen 2 of d1200
I can't believe I'm saying this but ayaneo has a better shot at providibg good value
After how good the konkr prices are I actually think they'll pull something off
ayaneo providing good value still seems so strange to me
It was confirmed when the model number ended in a 6
some people are too dumb for that, dude
Indeed. But now it is confirmed by anbernic
just... have some patience.
it's like explaining any of this to my brother with four kids and a car shop to run. he just doesn't care. got him a Switch, because that's the simplest move.
ANBERNIC changed their mind, it is now going to be $164.99.
QRT: retro_dodo
ANBERNIC has confirmed with us that the price of the upcoming RG476H will be $174.99.
wow they actually brought it down to 150 for 72h
About time these "6" devices got cheaper tbf
They charge so bloody much for shipping though, i always feel the advertised price is a bit disingenuous
im not sure why people always have to debate what chip a new device might be š
anbernic has been consistent with their number system
interesting, not that it really matters with these low end handhelds
I changed my mind
anbernic
š š They've done it
I mean still $175 retail
still horrible
150 is actually competitive enough with the rp4p
a few months later the price is gonna drop anyway
165
until we see it go lower than even 150
it would be somewhat competitive if they release it while Ali sales are still going
š
1100 vs T820 epic battle
like Tyson vs common kid
i think that come soon
will come later for sure, probably stick on top + ergos tho
Now I understand why they removed the 8gb model for RG477M
except the rg476h has a 120hz high resolution custom screen
much better overall
who care
screen most of case wont be ur limit
if you only care about preformance than buy steamdeck
soc always
Just because you don't care doesn't mean others don't. That's an arrogant mentality.
You might not mean it to come off that way but that's how most people will perceive it.
I draw conclusions based on the majority opinion. Even here, everyone prioritizes processor power over how cool the screen is.
Fair?
You can believe what you want. Doesn't bother me, just letting you know that's why people are getting irritated with your responses.
You do you.
š¤ You're right about something. I mainly judge from my own perspective.
Well, what he wants is probably an rg405h with a sd865 and a 480p screen to keep it cheap
but he shouldn't be rude about his preferences
um, well that will be good handheld for majority of ps2/gc enjoyers
I personally like to play many systems outside of the home console terretory so the 960p resolution is very impactful to me personally
but 865 complicated option
it cost like more powerful dimencity, which are still in production
maybe that a reason why its not popular
I think if you tried to understand other people's perspective you wouldn't be so disparaging of newly releasing devices
I'm glad that new devices are coming out, but they just can't compete with the ones that are already out there
Just look at the comments under the video of this wonderful console, how much joy people get from the T820 for $200
the rg476h is competent with the rp4p if you look at it from a perspective of someone who likes to plays 5th generation and below systems
it should also be okay for lots of gamecube stuff
that true
if this was true then all handhelds would have 16:9 screens
why?
they like ps2/gc and below
4:3 is base
3:2 is optimal, and allot (not me) like it
tried it, I didn't like it at all, those bastard stripes...
there's no point in arguing. He's dead set on not buying and not liking anyone who buys t820 hardware and is only here to troll
T820 jumpscare
i like t820
i dont like price
that a big difference
Thats what the D7050 is supposed to be for
7050 will be beast
new handheld era
āThereās no bad processor only bad pricesā type ahh statement
yeah, u can say the same about everything
⤠$150 is appropriate pricing IMO
Shame everything about the rp4pro other than the d1100 sucks
it's literally only the screen that's quite outdated at this point
165 shipped first 3 days, after that 180 shipped
Well, I don't agree that it's rubbish; it's more like it's been done at a minimum level.
I hope everyone shits on it hard enough that it doesn't sell well and I can get it cheap like 4-5 months from now
$165 and $150 for the first 3 days
Yes, has been revealed, early bird 150 ex shipping, after that 165 ex
yeah i forgot that came out the other day
Ayaneo will be the same price shipped
so the same price as the 556 when it launched
Because of dhl
nothing wrong with the cost
Ex shipping

the problem with the 556 was that the gameforce ace was being sold at the same time, so chat was flooded with "lol this gpu is trash" banter by people like Jutley and slaminger
Shipping is 15
Itāll be $30 for ayaneo
Youāre right
No new info
don't listen to anyone until they announce the price themselves
No official word yet for price? I will wait. So many sour people in here.
Are Anbernic and Ayaneo playing price drop chicken? Who flinches first
Plot twist : they're all the same conglomerate company and are playing us all
First time? š
This is super serious business. We need to know the price of all devices before we can even buy them.
I mean, technically, yes
they wait each other 100% (and if im right, ayaneo t820 lvl or above something)
Anbernic confirmed it to @retrododo
165 base ex shipping, 150 first 3 days
not official announce
Itās pretty much official unless they backstab a trusted reviewer for no ducking reason
He also was right about the previous prices of the 477m and slide
So why shouldnāt he be right this time?
reason ayaneo air could be
worth trade
Max zhou listens to nobody except max zhou
Pocket is gonna be $120
Yes, earl next week
In the next 20 hours, if itāll be in the stream tomorrow
But I also think itāll be next week
When it comes to Anbernic, forthenext has the contacts... If he's skeptical then we should take him seriously
guys. go outside and touch some grass
deletes paragraph
404 error
I don't know the price but I know plans change - even Nvidia are changing the price of their GPUs up until the last minute
I doubt they'll drop it below 150 early bird
And tbh, that's about the same price as the 406h so I'd say it's fair
Maybe Ali sales and coupons can get it below that in a couple of months, but as a baseline it ain't bad
three fiddy best I can do
what stream?
Theyāll definitely reveal the pocket vert in that stream
And hopefully also the air mini chipset with the latter being more unlikely
But weāll see
ah gotcha
I wonder if Ayaneo Air Mini will have a headphone jack š
according to the pictures we have seen it will
Ah okay, optimistic- I have only seen the front image. That was the craziest part about the Pocket Evo to me.
I mean to be fully realistic here, I barely have any wired headphones on me these days anymore anyway
so it's not like a do or die feature to me
I love to plug in headphones/ ear phones, but the dacs in these are nothing to write home about a far as using them for a dap.
I think as more of an alternative due to from my experience, Bluetooth headphones having an unfeasible amount of delay
I guess they mean no bezels?
that's what they're saying, but you can fairly clearly see bezels in their demonstration video so I'm not certain
And the bezels arenāt even symmetrical š
I like how the retro color doesn't have bezels there while it does in the demonstration
They mention dual screens. Hmm. Maybe they will make one? Or they just assume others will continue to make add ons? Very curious.
Hoping the latter
The latter would be preferable, there doesn't need to be some weird race between all these companies making optional second screens when we already have console races between them
We will see. Soon.
I wish
What do we think, two trimUI brick screen ds lite clone or two slide screen dsi XL clone?
I would like either or both
Both
This too
sounds like its at least bigger than 3.5"
Oh hell yeah
Yay some AI!
There isn't a lot 768p or 960p 4:3 options for this ds clone. I guess they're gonna use 4.2" 768p screens, cheap and matches DSi XL size
Do we know where Anbernic is getting this great screen from? Custom production?
Custom BOE screen.
When do we expect these to go up for sale? Next couple weeks? I'm pretty keen
The only killing this thing for me is the chipset. Would have been better off with the older snapdragon and still could be a cheaper device in comparison to the rg477m
Anbernic just doesn't do Snapdragon so that's a pipe dream sadly
T820 is such a let down on this device
Iām sure a non-M 477 will come eventually
The brick screen options sounds more special but I would be okay with either
too bad top screen would have a lot of wasted space
would personally like the top screen to be 1080p 16:9
cause otherwise it seems like nostagia pampering
September 23th is my expected date, based on historical data ( 19 days between first announcement and release date)
So, 12 more days
Why?
The NDS screens match
but someone buying such a device may want to get more out of a device than just play ds games
gba and psp both respectively would suffer
I want an all in one device, not a specialist.
If you care about general usage a 4:3 screen on the top would be a waste
It's only for aesthetic purposes
It sounds like what you want already exists from ayn
And I mean having no black bars is cool and all, but increases the bezel size significantly
While what anbernic is going for is a 34xx level accurate experience but for NDS not gba
Anbernic is likely making a much cheaper device, and it will have dpad on top.
So they are going for nostalgia
Also Iām hoping they put the speakers on top next to the screen
which explains why the rg34xx and 34xxsp both had big chunky bezels
Sounds pretty good
Not having to compete with ayn either
the rg34xx shell could almost fit like a 4 inch screen in there if they weren't stubborn about keeping the aspect ratios accurate to what they are mimicking
My preference would be a straight up ds lite clone with two brick screens
As accurate to the DS lite as the 34xx is to the gba
I guess it makes sense in the context of an attempt at a 1 to 1 replica
but anbernic clearly failed at that with the rg34xxsp when they decided to add sticks to it
I mean picking up any dual screen handheld to use as a āgeneral purposeā device for single screen systems is always gonna suck
May as well lean in to it being for emulating NDS
Why would it suck?
Yeah I mean the og 34xx
Not the SP abomination
Look at the ayn Thor and tell me that for psp, switch, ps2, etc youād rather have that useless second screen than proper control inset that makes the dpad and right stick usable
At least for the switch you could say terrible dpad ergo is authentic I guess
But the thing is really only laid out āwellā for 3ds
Well coming from a New 3ds xl I've played dpad centric games before and while they weren't as comfortable as my dsi xl they were more than just servicable. Not to mention, even if we asume the 2nd screen is useless unless you play ds and 3ds that kinda puts the device in the same type of comfort scenario as any horizontal handhelds.
take the rg476h
dpad centric
less then idea for analog centric games
and yet if we added an upper screen to the device suddenly it would become a "compromise"?
why do people want to excuse horizontals but not clamshells?
I like clamshells when they are single screen because it allows for better control ergo
Like on the flip 1
A clamshell with poor ergo and two screens is just a heavier candybar with a fragile hinge whenever youāre not using the second screen
yeah but horizontals never had the luxury of having better control ergo in the 1st place yet I don't see you having an issue with that
Because theyāre making whatever tradeoff between ergo and compactness
Using a dual screen device for snes is losing both
No, because on the clamshell you get a much bigger screen for almost the same size as a horizontal
just a bit thicker
Clamshells have advantages over horizontals even if you give them 2 screens
the only time a dual screen clamshell doesn't make sense if you don't plan on playing any wide systems
or want cheaper prices of course
or you don't want to give up 25% of your battery size like on the thor vs the other odin 2 models
it's also going to have the worst dpad ergo of any of the odin 2 models
Not to mention inset sticks.
There's a reason why no standalone controllers use inset sticks.
Needed on a clamshell if you don't want sliders. But it is a compromise.
pocket friendly horizontals also tend to have inset sticks
Yes. Which is a compromise.
well if you don't want sticks catching on your clotches or protruding out of the pocket of your jeans it is a neccesary evil
Sure. Just like with clamshells.
I mean tbh I would rather have the second screen
Ergohnahmix can be fixed with a grip
Honestly I'd prefer it if it had a t820, but it's pretty smart of anbernic to not compete with the widescreen ds options, they would never win that
kinda miss when the discord had voice chat
you could stream an scrcpy output directly from a handheld and most questions about stuff could be answered in seconds
Damn at this rate it'll be <100 by the time it comes out
should be $150 -$10 early bird to compete with the AYA
They'll have dropped the price by $10 but increased shipping by $10
Competition in this space is good for consumers
Ayaneo might have gotten their attention with the air mini
I do not see Ayaneo releasing a device under $200
Rumor is the air mini is $140 ish
Idk why it would be that when konkr pocket fit is 240 and that is their "budget" line. Hell the dmg lowest model is over 400
Regular pocket is 443 for the lowest model
Pocket micro is 200
KONKR is their AYN competitor
Code-R is their Retroid/Anbernic competitor and the Air Mini belongs to that
I'm just saying, nothing they have ever produced has been offered based on value. If they do it now they'll be undercutting a lot of their current product offerings OR they will have to make severe comrlpromises that will put it on par or worse than the 476h. I honestly hope I'm wrong but Ayaneo pricing has never made sense to me.
only at first before the prices more than doubled if you remember š they did give a limited number at the original advertised price at least
Rg477v when
not pocketable
Thatās called the rg slide
Nah
it wasn't?
The sticks commonly pop off if you try to pocket them
Getting a grip case doesn't really fix the issue either because of how tall the sticks are the case just turns it into a brick
Iirc it was around 1.5 inches thick when I measured it on my rg406h
I guess review units did go out but Anbernic put a dumb embargo again
its realy hard to understand?
