#AYN Thor
1 messages · Page 31 of 1
So thought... What if steam is experiencing higher volume of sales for games that work on game hub/ winlator so they see the value and invest into their own potential app
I bought 4 games that I learned work on game hub
The amount of people using gamehub/winlator all buying a few games would barely tip the needle for valve, they're huge.
That said valve are working on hardware with an ARM cpu so are also helping out with FEX/ProtonARM dev. I don't think this will result in a android app usable in other products but their work will help winlator/gamehub
the pro is probably the way, but im going to buy an sd card anyway. so i can get the storage and ram for maybe a little more than just an sd card. I did some quick math and its gonna end up being around $700 cad to get the max in my hands. The pro would be under $600...(with grip and case)
TORN
and then to decide on a colour lmao
Got my thor in and love it so much
White is much nicer in person, was feeling some regret with all the love for rainbow in videos until i got it in hand
Only reason to go Max over Pro is more internal storage. If you already have an sd card, save your money and get the Pro
The extra ram doesn't mean much since the CPU bottlenecks before the 12GB ram does. I think some texture packs use more than 12GB though if you're interested in that
get the max and the sd card!
I don't think 360 emulation is developed enough to even bother with at the moment. Just buy it for the emulators that currently work and not prospective emulators
The Thor 2 with a stronger chipset will be out by the time 360 emulation is worth looking at
people really overestimate how developed 360 emulation is in general
is there a list of high end systems that it plays? ps2, gc upscaled. og xbox? no 360/ps3.
i thought 360 emulation was ok for some games, i think i heard ps3 emu is farther along. I wasnt sure if that was only pc and not on android though
It plays up to switch and PC performance depends on the game.
up to switch sans 360/PS3 specifically right?
Excluding 360 and PS3
AFAIK there's no good OG Xbox option either. not the Thor's fault tho
PS3 is farther along but last time I checked it only really works great with Rachet and Clank and sidescrollers, so not really worth looking at yet
ya og xbox is in its infancy in a lot of respects. Love my og more for that reason.
and i thought i would be able to play some select 360 titles. oh well.
upscaled ps2 and gc has been a goal for a while.
and the switch and wiiU too.
not to mention 3/ds etc
doubt ill bother with pc stuff
so many games from the OG were also on GC/ps2 that its not a huge loss. and many of the exclusives are streaming via xcloud/series. I'd love it if this could play halo offline tho
not a huge nintendo fan but theres certainly double digit games ill like
Yeah that's a good point. They are helping with fex? Really?
Can you do this on Android or Windows only?
Also is it even necessary to do for Switch seeing as you can add the parts separately in Eden and they'll work together
When using an external screen does the device charge at the same time?
Can you consolize it permanently if you wanted?
Sorry another question. Can i connect a controller usb c to usb c?
Merging the DLC and Updates and game together is so you can store them on your SD Card, otherwise they'll take up space on internal storage
Oh I didn't actually know they couldn't be stored on an SD card, how come Eden or other Emus don't support it?
No idea
Also wonder why Gamehub doesn't allow for external either. I guess it has to do with most android phones not even supporting SD cards anymore, so emulator devs don't take external storage into consideration
Only really Gamehub, separate updates/DLC for switch, Android games, and texture packs that are like this. Everything else can be stored on SD card no problem
With MicroSD card speeds, you wouldn't even want it on there if Gamehub would allow it
would be a different story if we finally got MicroSD Express on these handhelds
Is it possible to merge a mod into an nsz ?
The Switch stuff sounds as complicated as the Wii U has been. I'm just bashing my head into a wall with it. Feel very stupid.
Downloaded wux files, they don't run even with a keys file. Decompress them into wud files, they also don't work with or without the keys file. Proceed to bang my head on the wall repeatedly.
im gonna buy at least a 512gb sd card for this, which would bring me near to the price of the max with the TB and RAM. I may go with the Max lmao
Do it😂 I’m wishing I had just gone for the max, the pro isn’t bad at all but that extra storage is sounding so nice right about now
Their pricing is a clever trap lol
Seriously 😂 the pro runs everything I want to try and more but man did I hit full storage fast, playing pc games has changed everything
i think i calculated it would be like $700cad. Ouch, as thats more than all of my other devices combined.
But theres so much friggin life in it
are there import fees or anything for buyers in canada?
How do I add run a game in GameHub via bat file? Right now the only way is to boot into the windows container and run it from there but it’s a pain and only opens it in windowed mode.
I already have an 1TB SD so the Pro made the most sense. If I didn't then I would buy the Max
I went max because I wish I'd done that with the Odin 2 (which I sold) and portal (which I also sold). This is my end game so went all in
SD card tho
ig if you gotta get a 1tb sd card tho it's worth to pay the 30 bucks extra for the max with the extra ram
Ayn was smart not to do 12/512 like the portal
If the pro was 12/512 I bet lots of folk wouldn’t go for max
Sucks for us tho lol
yea 256 is too low for internal
depends, if the pro wouldve been 30 bucks more
might as well pay 50 more for 512gb+4gb more! (is what i wouldve told myself)
i have to say, the ayaneo pocket ds sadly lost the battle
more expensive and generally worse
the only benefit is the bigger bottom screen and metal top cover but aside from that not much
an ayn thor with a 180 swivel screen would be mad fun
for touch only games
but what a technical nightmare that would be
but considering the bottom screen is LCD
not really an upgrade
I guess the dual screen MelonDS doesn't let you set the top screen layout on a per-game basis? I'd like to have it default to being as big as possible but shrink down to same size as the bottom for the games that span both like DQ4-6. It does seem to let you change the bottom layout but outside of losing the top black bar that doesn't help much.
yeah a per game setting would be amazing
Also for games where you're supposed to hold the DS sideways, you could just have both screens side by side on top
I believe you can set up profiles though so you'd just be a button press away
I know you can cycle profiles on libretro melonds_ds
yeah i set up the profiles, but itd be cool if it was like dolphin where i can set it up for a game. Not a biggie, would just be a nice qol thing
It is just interesting that the option is there for the external screen but not the internal one
It's a new feature, probably still being worked on
honestly I might gift my dsi to my cousin's son. I don't see any reason to keep it with how incredible DS games look and play on the Thor.
Games that require quick accurate stylus input are still a bit janky (e.g. Meteos). But it's the first time I even considered playing them on non-original hardware.
I don't think I've ever heard of Meteos before tbh
is it possible to play online multiplayer 3DS games on the Thor? like Smash Bros 3DS or Mario kart?
Very fun puzzle game made for stylus input. The second game I bought for my DS back then after Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow
(I loved how so many games had subtitles that abbreviated to DS haha)
There are community servers to replace the DS' online service (e.g. Kaeru WFC) but I haven't heard of anything like that for 3DS
there's Pretendo (custom fan made servers) for actual 3DS consoles but not sure if the Thor can access these servers or something similar
That name is PERFECT lol
lol yea. I just found out about them after I recently picked up a new 3ds and was surprised at how often I could find a match in Smash Bros
https://github.com/erew70/website/blob/dev/docs/en_US/install/citra.md
Looks like it's possible to use it with Citra, but requires some tinkering and keys dumped from an original 3DS
hey does anyone know if melonDS has something in the works to add more to the per-game configs?
The Dark Spire needs the software renderer if you play in the retro mode otherwise you simply can't see if you have any amount of upscaling
i guess for that game i can just use modern mode, the swapping is too tedious lol
There is per game config for layout, mic input, etc. but no rendering mode. I wish it supports this too because like you said some games have glitches with hardware rendering. In general I find software rendering has better compatibility and that’s my default for pixel based games which represent majority of the ds games I play. I only use OpenGL for games that I do upscaling like Mario Kart.
Can you scale to make it look less pixelated, more similar to the N64?
For MelonDS? You can check out the different filters inside the app.
My take is that Ayaneo tried to make one too many devices. They have the Pocket DS and the Flip 1S DS in basically the same shell, so to justify the existence of both in their lineup they made the 1S DS obscenely expensive. Had the Pocket DS not existed and the 1S DS gotten a reduced price, it could have been compelling as a true handheld PC with the advantages of dual screen in a form factor that is much more convenient than the Steam Deck's thanks to being a clamshell.
The 1S DS would therefore have existed as a coherent "step-up" to the Thor in both performance and price for those with the budget to spare.
As it stands, the 1S DS is prohibitively expensive and the Pocket DS fails to measure up to the Thor for anyone who doesn't put an incredibly high importance on wanting to have large screens on their device.
i just find the bottom screen too big to the point it messes up the controls comfort on PDS
i also have ordered 1S DS (8840u-16g when it was still avail) as i have some nongaming usecases for that kind of windows device ..... but we are 2 months after original skipping time and their answer for shipping is "we are not certain"
Yea I would not get cloud saves working, sometimes the fps would be lower
Absolutely… and the other issue is that it just takes them too long to ship something. By the time you get your aya, two devices from competition are available. It was always like that with Aya, but some years ago the was not a lot of competition in the x86 space, so they could execute it like that…
Lukcily Thor has been absolute blast
and my needs for windows dualsceen arent really immediate so i can wait for my 1S even till even early next year absolutely fine 😄
Playstore balatro unavailable on this device as well... I do have a fairly well played file on steam so maybe gamehub balatro is the play, but that sounds awful for battery life. Apk maker it is I guess
Just a heads up all. I just got an email saying first replacement fan sent was still incorrect. So a new one has been sent again. So i have 2 fans on way. One bad and one good. Not sure if anyone else who has a fan on way may want to check with Ayn before installing
I wonder if the newly sent units also have the "bad" fans
or if they've been swapped already in the assembly line
I seem to have lucked out with my fan. Do have the imagine retention issue though unforunately
I play balatro on my Trimui Brick and love it hah
I think I'm close to having balatro on every device lol, good on the go game
Now I'm picturing a hypothetical ultra-thin Android device just so you can install Balatro on it and play Balatro on a playing card
They've retired the lite model 😂😂
Looking forward to getting mine now with how rare it'll be
Wonder if they don't have enough chips for it or they just aren't getting enough orders to bother keeping up the assembly line for it.
could just be that the order were so low that it was not enough to hit MOQ for additial production
that didnt take long, hopefully those poor sods who ordered one get chance to upgrade 😄
Running the Star Fox 64 recompilation natively and in 120fps🤯 higher than my Steam Deck that’s capped at 90
Or maybe it's a temporary thing and they want to get the other models out the door before they take orders for this one again
They're joking, there's been no official announcement that the Lite has been cancelled. It's still schedule to ship end of Nov
fair enough 😄
Lol wait, I read it wrong
I guess the few people who get their Lites will indeed be the owners of a collector's item!
if they get them
Collector's item (a strictly worse version of the device)
Can't wait for my collectors item
It covers my needs device-wise, I couldn't give a frig what other people feel about it.
I mean, more power to you, it's not like the SD 865 is a garbage chip or anything. I have said this before, it's plenty powerful enough to cover emulating the systems this device targets.
I do think it would have been more appealing if it was priced lower than merely $50 below the SD 8 Gen2 model.
oh cool, hopefully they can fix image retention
Add a custom keyboard that only populates on the bottom screen, or a way to pin the default keyboard to the bottom screen.---fixed,
Oh hey that's exactly what I was wondering about earlier
Tutorial for modding the new AYN Thor.
In this video, I show how to replace the original buttons and apply SakuraRetroModding stickers with a clean and accurate method.
This guide is suitable for beginners and works on all versions of the AYN Thor.

RIP gamehub lite
What's going on with it?
servers were being run by the person who wrote it out of his own pocket and he shut them down today. emuready team is going to set up servers but that is going to be a bit
the bigger question is why does Gamehub Lite need external servers to begin with
that should have been patched out
I imagine it’s something for the handshake with steam & uploading cloud saves etc
They were never patched out, if people actually read the github you'll see they were made self-hostable
All API calls redirected to self-hostable Cloudflare Workers
The dev also mentions in the github readme they're using free cloudflare workers, they probably hit the bandwidth or usage cap on them
I would assume this is why when I try to download the protontricks-type components the download just fails?
bottom screen keyboard will be sickkkkk
lol first time today setting it up and I had issues all day. now I understand why
It cracks me up that they just copy the text from users directly. I appreciate how candid they are 😅
Also, I can't imagine they'll be able to do anything about the retention. I guess I appreciate that they're not just sweeping it under the rug?
But then why maintain it in the list

Nuuuu, I just fell in love with Ball Pit on Thor
Is there anywhere you can get the shell from outside of ayn?
I ordered a week ago and it hasn't moved since (likely because they're prioritizing consoles, which makes sense)
Potential Retroid DS incoming?
If not, now it leaves a gap for RG3DS with T820 and Max Zhou will put a price tag of $199
You can still run games you have installed by enabling steam offline mode in setting and turning off Thor's WiFi
Is there an app that anyone knows of that either puts a keyboard down on the bottom screen or otherwise lets us add custom controls? I'd like to have some quick keys for Winlator that doesn't require me reaching up to the top screen.
Apparently this works for a bottom keyboard, not tried it myself though https://github.com/Maditer/YuyanDual
Sweet, I'll give that a shot. Thanks!
Yea it works but it's all in chinese
Just learn Chinese then /s
Don't think you can change it and you have to go through some text to change it to a standard keyboard layout
Dang y'all weren't kidding
At this point, I'll just wait for the AYN solution in a week or so
Nice, at least this let's me hang onto some of the games I got working on Gamehub Lite that I couldn't with Game Native, mostly just Trails in the Sky 1 tbh.
With cloud saves the only painful part was poking at settings.
I will say, while I'm happy for the boom in Windows Emulation compatibility, it does make finding info for my use case mildly annoying lol.
So much info on getting AAA games to run, when a random indie fumbles I have to just mindlessly poke at some settings and hope for the best lol.
Even with the help of Google Translate on my phone, I'm not getting far with this. I can mess around with settings, but I can't seem to be able to get the thing to show up.
I'm not one to rely on vendors for additional software features post launch but I do see AYN adding this in the next OTA update
Anyone know if they've talked about it on the AYN server?
Was the same case for the steam deck on launch. Let's hope compatitbility improves at the same rate
Minit is probably the main game I was thinking of. Could not get it to work properly in Gamehub Lite or Game Native, updated Game Native from 4.0 to 5.1 and suddenly it just starts working no problem lol.
I mean yea, i only said that cause nicole said it was coming next week / later this month
This is from Nicole in the AYN discord
Nice
Got it working. Definitely a bit janky, but it's working. Still might be better to wait for an official solution lol
The key was to open it in the top screen to get it actually working
I was opening it on the bottom screen because, well, duh
But if Nicole says it's coming (and is even marked "fixed"), then that'd be the better solution, I bet
Hopefully
I'm still amazed the 1st gen android clamshells like this are so competent, lots of other handheld companies can't even get single screen device software right
Miyoo A30 looking at you
The thing I'm looking forward to the most is more launchers supporting dual screens
So this definitely won't work for me because this keyboard queues up what keys to send and you have to hit that enter key to actually send the keys to the Android system. I wanted these to be hot keys for Winlator games. That's clearly not gonna work here lol
that's interesting, wonder if its using the clipboard to do it
Fyi - gamehub lite is currently down, just in case someone is wondering
Games can still be launched. Click on the 3 dots under each already installed game, then on steam and select offline mode. Note: it will only save locally and you need to re-sync when it is hopefully back online
Installing new games will not work
Just when I bought megabonk, ball x pit and escape from duckov
If someone cares enough gamehub lite can still work if you host the cloudflare workers yourself (and probably add DNS records to your DNS resolver). The github for gamehub lite will have details
Nvm, here's a link to the update https://www.reddit.com/r/EmulationOnAndroid/comments/1otkttx/gamehub_lite_v500/
From the EmuReady guys that are the ones listed by the original dev to be taking over the project
That was quick. Hope that the emuready dev can take over soon
Clearly they didn't translate any of that to their natural language before sending that out 😂
Maybe they agree the eq is straight trash
Ooooh, alternate launcher is fixed?
Really glad to see that
I figured it was independent because the pocket DS has no issues in that regard chabging your home app
Wait, I thought GameHub didn't do Steam saves period. That's why I've been using Game Native
So it does do cloud saves?
Yes, both gamehub and gamehub lite do
Well dang, I might have to give it a shot then
is gamehub better vs gamenative?
I thought it was game native that doesn’t sync saves back 😅
Depends on the game
Me ded… maybe me skill issue 😉
Would you mind sharing your settings? I am always around 30 fps
Latest turnip
Native rendering enabled (settings menu when game runs)
And in the game, go to settings and set latency to 0
You can also follow this:
I've had a few questions about how I get Megabonk working as well as I have. Most of what you need to know is in my GUIDE https://youtu.be/sqptnpn_NWQ where ...
But the two changes I mentioned had the biggest impact
Little treasure trove of N3DS plate files. I want to resize a few of these to put under the TPU cover
I'll probably start with the persona 3 one
You should resize and share 😉
Will do!
Just don't look in the shipping channel
for anything Non Steam, is Winlater the primary option?
Glad I gave GameHub Lite a shot. This is the best I've ever had Mass Effect running, and I didn't have to fiddle with any settings aside from adding the controller support mod, which wound up being fairly easy. The best framerate I had on basic Winlator was around 30 FPS and I'm averaging around 40 here.
Textures seem a bit low-res no matter what I do, but I can live with it
I wish I could get Legendary Edition working, but I imagine that'd be a pain in the ass with the whole EA app thing.
Idk that just makes me wanna play on a full pc.
My first playthrough of the entire series was on Xbox 360. So this feels more at-home to me.
I've been wanting proper ME1 on the go for a while now. Steam Deck worked okay, but it's so bulky. I had it working through RPCS3 on my Odin 2 Mini via Rocknix, but it seemed so choppy and ran at like 20 FPS. But this, this feels incredible. So much smoother.
welcome back gamehub lite!
turns out I just needed a nap and the world would be right again
The Thor is so popular and the shell isn't that complex, I'm wondering if we'll eventually see shell replacements
Trigger replacements?
Would you mind elaborating? Last I heard servers were shut down
temporarily fixed until the full fix rolls out. you can just update like normal
Are retro handhelds and techdweebs guides the best out there currently?
New Release!!! melonDS-android v0.4 🎉

i seemed to be the only person crying about it but the new verison of eden fixed MHGU

makes me really happy, that was the only thing missing into making this my primary handheld
well it already was but i should say last thing i wanted to move onto it
anyone get mario galaxy 1/2 switch ports working or is that a pipe dream? have tried eden, citron and ryujinx and citron they launch in but i'm getting a lovely 5-15 fps
replacement fan due for delivery tomorrow but its the bad fan 😫 good fan only just left china
It’s here!!! And…
Seems the odin mini d pad fits. I sanded down part of it to flatten it since it was making contact with the screen.
Nice decal
And I’ve made custom buttons already 😉 I can share the files if anyone is interested. I’m working on making to clear ones.
And they’re magnetic 😄
Thanks. It’s a rushed cricut little guy, but it looks super nice. I wanted a gold one with the edge design like the zelda 3ds. But idk how to get something like that
The JCSFY Thor grip came in today and it is glorious
Stan dimension
If anyone has an idea of a good place to get a decal like this. Hit me up:p
I just ordered this. Does it fit over the plastic protector case?
I did not get the TPU cover
It's a snug fit though
I mean, you could just steal the image and print it out as a sticker
where'd you get the decal?
Use my cricut to cut some vinyl
I wish I knew how to take that image but my photoshop skills are bad nowadays.
There's an image with front facing view on this
how do you print stickers? Buy sticker paper and put it through a printer?
Might be able to make something with it
I mean, technically yes, but not every printer likes those, so I would just order a print online tbh
So what's everyone using for wallpaper
need a thor wall papers site like yesterday
I see someone posted a link to the theme plaza on Reddit. Unsure how these will look on the Thor screen resolution but maybe worth trying
https://themeplaza.art/?category=themes&query=&sort=most-downloaded&page=2
one thing that I'm not quite sold on about Gamehub is the inconsistent frame pacing
it will look horrible lol
the effective resolution of the 3ds top screen is 400x240
re. Gamehub, you can absolutely play Silksong in here, but whether you leave the frame rate unlocked or you cap it at 60, frame pacing still feels a bit off, you can tell even at 60fps locked it feels a bit "choppy" compared to native PC platforms where the frame pacing is more solid
not sure if that's something that can be addressed at all but at it stands I'd rather play Silksong on a PC handheld, the frame pacing is really distracting to me
I guess this is bad news for the Odin 3 and future 8 Elite handhelds
all the power in the world won't fix bad frame pacing
Those OLED colors are just night-and-day better, man
This is a bit of a process but pretty cool
Are those stickers you put on the plate? Would love to do the same, always prefer more subtle customization.
How did it compare to the AYN grip? Is it hard or more rubbery?
I did not get any accessories for it
but it is a hard plastic
I had purchased a grip from them for the Flip 2 that i loved and was kind of banking on them to make one for the Thor
It does not disappoint
Any good collapsable keychain stylus recommendation? I wanna attach it to the lanyard.
Seriously? Guys this is insane
What's that. I was happy they fixed audio in ys x
For best pc games performance use Winlator Cmod bionic ludashi. It does make the CPU heat up quite a bit though even in standard mode so active cooling is a must.
Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate
What accessories did yall get?
It did crash one time, but hasn't done it again. It runs so well. Still on Eden Prime but I haven't hit any major issues aside from one crash.
Everything around 100gb still gives me storage anxiety even with the 1tb model lol so I’m sticking to GTAV as the only big game.
It would be nice to know how the games originally ran when comparing them.
Does GTA4 run the same on 360 as on thor? Yknowmsayn
Yes .. I hate spending all that time downloading to test
And I already got a notice from my ISP saying that I'm approaching my data cap for the month 😩
Ugh yeah I get those too
Guys I love this age of emulation. Never would I have imagined this 2 years ago. I've been messing with these emulation handheld since the pocket go from retromimi in 2017 or so
For anyone wondering, the per-game internal screen settings were not reintroduced in this update. I think at this point it’s worth reporting as a bug to hopefully see this corrected
Man, I'm close to placing an order, but I really need to find out whether or not you can play the Steam version of Hundred Line on this thing.
White or black?
Thats my last decision to make
Leaning heavily black. Im not too worried about smudges
Also is the metal tip stylus the general best? The pointer style dont work well?
3DS and DS emulation seems to be making a resurgence this year, thanks to the release of multiple dual-screen handhelds. Let's take a look at some stylus options for them.
Styluses featured in this video:
10-pack: https://amzn.to/4nli1qU
NanoStylus: https://amzn.to/4mB4NW6
Extending stylus: https://amzn.to/4gEgytv
Double tip stylus: https://am...
Apparently it works well on Odium 2 so it’s gonna run well on the Thor too
Just watched this today and I think I’m getting the extendable one to chain in on the lanyard
Any details on that? Like configuration or anything?
Idk it was just mentioned here
In Console Launcher, has anyone figured out how to manually scrape a game it gets wrong?
Can't you google search for an image on console launcher?
It’s not just an image, it’s metadata
For those that have used the latest MelonDS dual screen release, is there a way to move the bottom screen? In the previous release, it was centered vertically, but in this version it has been pushed up all the way.
it's on the odin, protected by the clear cover. I did that with my 3ds too
The just a few hours old patch notes say "Manual layout editing is disabled when a preset is active to avoid conflicts." for melonDS
Thanks for this, I'm sold.
Dual Screen Preset was already set to Disabled, if that is what you are referring to.
Did you make them yourself?
What would make me buy white over black?
So that you can see the bezels better! Sneaky bezels, can’t let them hide in plain sight!
Or… just because the white stands out from a sea of samesame basic-black electronics, as fresh as a pair of Nike Air Force One ’07s.
I had to get the rainbow one. The colorful buttons call to me
I'm buying black for bezel blending but if not for that, I would buy white, then buy the Rainbow buttons separately for $3, and make it look like a New3DSXL
It would be easier to just buy rainbow but that ugly beige color they went with throws me off when I see pics of it
Would you agree that white is 'crisp' and black is 'sleek'? Or some other words lol
Rainbow to me is meh, purple was almost my shoe in but some certain compromises made it lose out.
So its between the last two
I like the no bezels even though i dont care about them lol
I dont think ill be smudging it so much
Unless you particularly love a different colour, black is the obvious choice for how good it makes the oleds look
Is your name refrencing the band?
No, it was originally a reference to Mabelode the Faceless from the Corum novels
Fun fact for any 40k fans, the Chaos Gods from 40k were heavily inspired by the Eternal Champion novels (of which Corum is one saga) and they even took the 8 pointed star directly from them
From my testing the custom layouts do not seem to work on the bottom screen at all, only the top
It is done
My thor is finally shipping after 10 days 🙏
just got absolum running on gamenative
such a good game!
How's it running?
is there a particular version of Winlator that is preferred or will any suffice?
Speaking just Winlator: From what I've seen, I haven't used Winlator in a while, Frost is the best for performance, and CMOD for compatiblity.
How does N64 and Dreamcast run on Retroarch for this chipset. Is the compatibility good and can I play them upscaled without any issues or should I just stick with standalone emulators?
I ask this cause i've always used Mupen and Redream cause they ran better than the Retroarch cores on my previous less powerful handhelds but with the 8 Gen 2 i'm wondering if I could just keep all of the older systems on Retroarch without issues
if you uninstall a version of winlator it uninstalls all games installed via that version?
Frost is what I use for GTAV 60fps
Dreamcast is great in retroarch. N64 has compatibility issues so depends on games you play
i still use standalones personally
redream is great
i love having consistent hotkeys between as many emulators as possible
yeah, it has to really suck for me to not use retroarch since I'm so used to it
Yes and Redream has this annoying thing where certain games don't launch directly from the frontend and it'll just open up the emulator instead
I have a potentially stupid question for Thor users of ES-DE. I've been messing around with using the new version on the bottom screen to launch games to the top, but on 90% of themes the bottom screen still sits down there autoplaying video clips which is really distracting. I found the setting to mute them but can't find one to stop them altogether. Am I stupid and missing something?
no multiplayer but perfect otherwise. idk if multiplayer is possible via game native and I just messed up somewhere
Hmm, I was playing Bravery & Greed fine over the weekend multiplayer online
I'll look into it tonight, ty for info though.
Love me some Absolum
if you go to 'UI Settings'... then down to "screen saver" you can pick how it does screen saving. you can extend time, turn off videos, etc.
it asked me a question about multiplayer on first launch when I was just trying to get it working without crashing I think I hit “no” on, but I think that might have just been analytics and the menu options are so sparse in game I haven’t found anything to toggle. just know when I go to the multiplayer spot in the hub it says multiplayer not available
Had you started a new game or used cloud save?
This works well enough for me, thanks!
according to their video. i think the idea is that you open the game media when playing it so bottom screen has game data and manual etc. if you do that it should turn off saver
I'll play around with it
Which version of Gamehub Lite is best for the Thor?
AnTuTu will push the device to the max but I just use regular version because the AnTuTu version was pushing my device to 90°f
ok that's the one I grabbed (haven't set it up yet). I just wanted to be sure.
new game. had only ever attempted to launch via gamehub previously and failed.
Ahh, maybe you needed to complete a run B4 multiplayer
How'd you attach the stylus? 3d printed holder?
Has anyone tested mass effect LE / original games on gamehub?
anyone have good recommendation for a stylus for this? I am looking for something a little more "precise" than the regular pencil eraser looking ones I have laying around.
new melon dualds works great. moves up the bottom screen and touch works.
beautiful!
The Wii-mote was a mistake 😵💫
so no one is bothered by the screen retention issue?
I've seen at least one person pretty unhappy about it, I personally haven't had it crop up in a major way
there is a screen retention issue? lol i haven't noticed anything
It never happened to me
been on mine non stop and yea haven't noticed
haven't seen any reviewers pick up on it either
i think it mostly appears when the screen is grey right? then it goes away? i havent really noticed it.
Yeah I also couldn’t notice it until I really really really started looking for it
This fits well/just slides on?
Yup, just slides in nice and snug
since i painted my thor, i can only ever consider soft rubber style grips like the official one. id be scared of scratching it with 3d printed grips
Nice! May order one then. My flip one was a little misprinted one of the pegs and it didn’t fit perfectly, so hopefully this is better
they make good grips 🤔 i might have to try one out
yea i def wouldn't call it an issue lol
i mean if it was more noticeable?
Even with this level since cheaper oled handhelds like the rp5 and 556 didn’t have it
Just say it’s only noticeable if you really look for it and let the viewers decide themselves
It's comfy, can one hand it and manipulate the (R) Joystick comfortably
Sounds oddly erotic. I’m in
Official is hard rubber though. I wish it was soft.
lol its nothing compared to pvc
Yeah you have to go out of your way to look for it. Its a nothing burger really
Just the usual OLED thing if you leave it on a static image / HUD elements while the screen is set to high brightness.
I think this OLED is only as likely to get burn-in as any other OLED. Some devices have a “sweep” or screensavers to refresh the pixels and help any afterimages fade faster.
It's very noticeable on mine unfortunately. I turn it on and immediately open Azahar, Citra, or MelonDS, and I can see the AYN boot logo and the white Azahar icon in the background.
It goes away after a few minutes, and doesn't show in gameplay, but still, every time I turn it on, I'm reminded of the issue and it's just not a great thing to experience every time, especially on a new, expensive device
Ah i haven't seen anything like that and i don't turn off my android devices that are in use
Yeah I do wonder if the people that aren't experiencing the issue just have it in sleep mode all the time instead
None of the reviewers seemed to have the issue though, and they have so many devices that I imagine they must turn them off when not in use. So I reckon the issue is only affecting some of the panels, unfortunately including mine. But yeah, the issue isn't present when actually playing a game
That isn't the issue. In fact, according to people who have emailed AYN about the issue, AYN have said the issue only happens when the screen is below 40%. Mine's never below 50% though and it still happens to me.
The AYN bootlogo is only on screen for, what, 10-15 seconds? It shouldn't be long enough to cause the sort of image retention I'm seeing on mine
Maybe they meant above 40%? Doesn't really make sense for it to happen with low brightness.
Is this device out yet?
How new?
Today's update
I only saw the AYN logo once so far after reboot and it faded within seconds. Didn’t happen at all after the next reboot.
Boot logo brightness is always at 100%
Hope they can fix that
No it came with the holder, it’s on Amazon
Let me see your painted one

Looks great
thanks
Wow that looks really good. Great job
just a little too much for me
but i think retro AV stickers on rainbow is so cool
considering putting my tower records sticker on mine
So you like basketball and music AND retro games?

Melon on a roll now!🍉
Made some more 477 comparisons since I’m gonna sell it soon. Another good example of OLED benefits. The speakers on the Thor are also a bit louder with more lows which makes it sound clearer.
Do you like the button feel of the thor any better?
Yeah, especially the dpad gives you a clicky feedback when you roll your thumb on it
it’s more mushy on the 477
Another thing that makes me preffer Thor, the convenient “clear all” option is missing on the 477 task manager🤔
Nuts. I think mine may have stopped charging 🤔
I'd love to be able to buy a longer charging cable that actually works with the thor lmao
the shitty little charging cable that came with it is so inconvenient to use
Well, this one was working before. The charging icon comes up but the numbers don't turn green like before. It just drains
only the provided charging cable works?, plugged in anywhere? like my PC?
Nah anything works
And mine's fine. The USB c hub has just come unplugged from the wall somehow ,😅
Has anyone gotten totk running fully smoothly on this thing?
I only see it from the gen 3 consoles
So… USB -C to USB-C works? Don’t HAVE to use USB-A?
Scroll all the way to the left
Some android task pages have it there
Nah I've used both
The cord it comes with is c to c
Anything from Retroid, AYN and Ayaneo will work with c to c
It's only the cheaper stuff and the low end (h700) of anbernic that's finicky
Bleh, I just took a $30 loss selling off an H700 Anbernic that I just got at the start of October.
Has anyone found a way to use the bottom screen as a trackpad for pc games?
Such a great idea
Don't fret. That's just lunch for two at chipotle. Eat out one less time this month
Buying an h700 for more than $30 in this economy was the issue. But don’t fret… I’ve lost way more on handhelds lol
But now you can play 2 game boys!
Been replaying Pokemon Silver for the first time in like a long while (usually play Crystal)
I actually do lol
To trade with myself
It's tedious to do all on one device but it's possible
It's specifically so I can then send my save to my 3ds to transfer the pokemon to Home
I was wondering about that! Can you do that stating with red?
Got my Thor! Immediately put in those skittle gididdle buttons
Now you've got the best of both worlds (Black's bezel blending and Rainbow's buttons)
It was super easy to do
Might be part of it ... I only ever reall turned it off once
Cause I managed to use up all the battery
Just turned mine on now and still have the initial retention. I'm gonna leave it sleep for the next week and try to play it every day, then I'll turn it off and on and see if the issue is still there
And then kept it on while charging so did t even see if the logo stayed as I opened it after charging was done
But didn't notice anything during initial setup
Cause tbf I haven't been using it much, been too engrossed in Ball x Pit lol (and the Thor really ain't the device for that game with its right-stick ergo). So maybe properly committing some time to use it will , i dunno, do something to the screen lol
Curre tly going through some cave to battle Misty
(in yellow legacy hack)
Kinds funny that when I eed some multitask I play gbc at the bottom ans when not I ply it on the top
Although it makes retroarch confused sometimes (stuff like game loading bottom up at the top or wide bottom happened few times)
Yeah bottom screen is perfect for GB/GBC
Still need to experiment with some shaders for the GBC ... but I usually just play instead
authentic_gbc and lcd grid v2 slap
I've just been using the dot shader but I'm open to trying new ones
I have this Reddit post bookmarked for this shader I keep meaning to try
I think I used lcd 3x on RPMini, but my mini has been currently abducted by my gf for ps2 rpgs so don't remember how it looked
Simpletex_lcd, makes it look like a piece of paper
It would look like a modded gbc with realistic bezels
I will have to test around I would like the shader not to muddle colours too much
But everytime I open the Thor ... I usuall go straight to play and zero will to test stuff
Anyone had issues with N64 games in the RA Mupen64Next core? Some games work normally, while others run, but lock up the controls and don't accept any input (even the system level hotkey to open the menu). Same games and core work fine on my RP5. I've noticed this so far with Shiren 2 and Mario Golf.

Katana Zero is another great OLED game to chill at night!
I'm actually playing on the top screen for gbc
Like sure the screen would fit physicaly "better" but the top screen is just so much nicer to me
Also reminds me of when I played GBC via the 3ds virtual console
i switch it around depending if i want to listen to youtube alongside fastforwarding pokeymen farming or not 😄
I wonder will they drop a Thor Elite eventually
I want them to wait and support this for a bit
Just so the dual screen software matures more
I don’t have the link to @dull marlin but I saved the post to test this out later in the week

T22 all around the best one to use for Switch?
Best guide going for the device
How did you make the icons appear like that?
Does anyone else find that Melon crashes a lot at the menu when you have a large library? It's pretty much the only issue I have with it
I'm gonna be honest I'm super disappointed with the ordering experience with this thing
I ordered on like the 2nd, I may not even get shipped out til like the 30th at this rate
What model did you order?
Oh you mean nov 2 I thought you meant October for a second, yeah I think they got a ton of orders for these
Purple pro
Listen I'm sure they have their reasons but end of the day this is a really sub par experience for me
Twinsies. Hope yours ships soon
Long wait, and No reasonable expectation or estimate of how much longer cuz it seems they spin a freaking wheel on what model to produce each day
And then when they produce my model they get through not a lot at a time
Just very poor communication, no real explanation as to why either so we can just guess 🤷♂️
It's all relative in this market, unfortunately. I'd say this is one of the better launches I've bought into.
You've not had poor communication until you've tried to buy something from OneX
Honestly it also seems heavily dependent on model, they seem to be focusing a lot of effort on other models first
It's the Retroid style, yea. Cycle around the SKUs depending on the order counts and what components they have. Frustrating if you pick a particular color that moves slow at first
Thanks. More like the H700 handheld (35XX SP) was close but not worth it IMO. I started by playing short bouts of SNES, which was fine, even beat an arcade run of Soul Calibur on Dreamcast which was a surprise, but the DPad HURT in longer sessions of Castlevania, and when I couldn’t solve the stuttering cutscenes in the PlayStation version of Chrono Cross, I knew I needed (NEED!) an upgrade.
Ah, Gameboy with an eInk display, kinda cool!
Hard luck, there's still loads of us who pre-ordered a lot earlier still waiting lad
It’s hard waiting once you get spoiled by Amazon Prime 😅
But to be fair, this is manufacturer direct (not ordering from a huge existing inventory in a warehouse), small scale production.
Large demand and limited supply
A simple but very true explanation
Once the device is in hand though 🤌🏼
Many of us held our collective breaths during the Nancheng Incident
The Nancheng Incident is what the Japanese call the Nancheng Massacre
tbh the nancheng mese were fun
ayn should just do what a normal company does and manufacture either too few to allow a scalper market to develop or too many and risk going bankrupt. oh, and charge 50% more because upfront manufacturing has more risk/costs
Folder Widget
Thanks!
Gamehub lite? I’ve been playing it on my steam deck, but playing on my portal and Thor sounds sick
Yepp, runs with no issues and in my case at 60
Just use normal version https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.xiaoji.egggame&hl=lt
Gamehub Lite is some people creation, without any trust what they are doing. Is just like home DIY version of normal tool.
I heard lite protects your privacy?
😄 yeah, Robin Hoods of privacy
Lite (supposedly until we see open source) removes a lot of the tracking and stuff.
It does remove the Gamehub Account requirement though which is nice.
People are crazy, when they arent using normal app, which even is on Google play store, because of they privacy, but they are using and installing to their devices APK of anynomous developers, which can install whataver he wants 😄 security specialists, rofl
In fairness, there's reports almost every day of new malware apps on the Play Store, ahaha.
But yeah, Gamesir isn't some unknown small company and a lot of the tracking stuff is standard fare.
Yeah, good luck with this Gamehub Lite clone, until it will be closed 🙂 your data is for sure safe 😄
We're all technically rolling the dice on these retro handhelds if we're using their stock Android anyway 🙃
It has Lite in the name.
You really think someone would do that? Just go on the internet and tell lies?"
Is there a way for Obtainium to auto update ES-DE or is there no URL source because it's behind a Patreon wall?
Your defense of the original app is really weird. The company behind gamehub has done some known shady things in the past with the Egg NS emulator so trusting a random github dev who went through the effort to document what they removed from the app seems more reliable. Until you provide proof of any data issues I'll continue to believe the lite dev's app is doing what they said it is in the well documented github
yeah, “trust random github guy” - are you hear yourself?
Whatever device you are using is built on software made by thousands of faceless dev's you'll never know the name of, what makes this one less trustworthy?
"trust random GitHub guy" or "trust objectively known spyware company"
I do not think "are you hear yourself" is a great rebuttal to a perfectly logical statement all things considered
Has anyone gotten Absolum (Steam Version) working on Gamehub?
If the main buzz around this device is playing PC games, maybe I should just stick with my Steam Deck 😂
I have not and cannot wait to get my save over there
I do not want to start a new file
TechDweeb showed a bunch of it in his latest video, I think he might have pinned a comment on that video on how to get it running
Oh duh, that makes sense to start there haha
Thanks
retroarch keeps crashing on me? sometimes after 5 minutes, sometimes hours. Is this a Thor thing or an Android thing?
it survives sleep/wakes just fine, I'm playing a NES game and it'll just die
I'm honestly kind of shocked that Steam themselves haven't done anything gamehub-esque, with the translation layer and all that
maybe they don't wanna take people away from steamdeck/ Steamos
WTF 30 minutes ago lol! This is a device tho, is the software available on android devices and such as an app, similar to gamehub?
Yeah that's the part we don't know unfortunately
Hopefully if nothing else people can harvest their code
It's an 8 Gen 3 so a little more powerful than the thor
Yeah I would just like Valve's homegrown version so you don't have to deal with a somewhat "shady" company's app. I'll stick with GameNative for stuff like this for now cuz it's open source
It might be using the same translation wrappers and stuff as gamehub so performance might not be all that different
also @gentle notch THANK YOU for sending that, I woulda seen the news eventually but I was really looking forward to the new valve controller/vr headset
Great news today!
Lite’s modifications are open source
This has been happening to me too. I figured it was because I'm scraping constantly on the second screen
But maybe not
there aren't any obvious triggers for me, just now I was just using items in River City Ransom, which means I was just pushing A a lot. went through dozens of items no problem, and then it just died. I absolutely don't want to go into another game if this keeps happening, I'm looking at different versions of RetroArch maybe?
Maybe. I've been using the one from obtanium (or at least I thought I was - I'll double check)
same. v1.21.0 stable
stable but crashes at random
I'm using RetroAchievements, maybe that's related
A lot of us wanted a smaller steam deck!
That can also play dual screen games
My hope is that when/if ARM SteamOS becomes a thing it'll be easy to bring to the Thor.
I don't need to play AAA or even AA games, there are so many low requirement indie games I'd love to have access to.
Depends on what one counts as AA content. Octopath Traveler or Adventures of Elliot would be cool on an actually portable device lol.
I love my Steam Deck, but man is it Chonky.
Yeah, I've been dabbling with Steam games, and see them as a nice bonus when they work, but they're extremely hit-and-miss.
I've been playing Animal Well with Game Native as my current Thor game, after finishing New Super Mario Bros.
I'll probably go play Kirby Triple Deluxe or something on it after Animal Well.
At this point Steam indies are just another "console" on the list of consoles to play on my Thor. Obviously with much more hit-or-miss compatiblity lol.
Stylus tips has arrived
Drugs
To me the appeal of this device is pocketability, all in one, real dual screen experience and the benefits of android like sleep and battery life (especially around emulation). For the all in one part, PC games emulation is still in its infancy, but its improving quickly. I have an x86 handheld (and a beefy gaming PC) so if i cared only about PC games, I definitely choose this. That's definitely on the bottom of the totem pole. The fact that it's improving quickly is just a great bonus.
That would be odd. Maybe I'll switch to nightly and see if that's any better
Maybe the core matters, but it's happened to me when playing N64 as well
Appeal of a non-pocketable device is the pocketability 🤔
this thing is definitely pocketable, not that i'd pocket it
Outside of certain jeans it should fit most pockets in fairness.
It 100% does not fit in a pocket lmao
Barely managing to shove something in there and then having a giant tumor in your pants that makes you unable to sit down or move does not count as pocketable
the thor?
Stop wearing skinny Jeans
The Thor is definitely pocketable, it's just a bit thicker than a 3DSXL which is also pocketable.
Not my fault I have a BMI under 30
Fuckers wearing size 42 jeans acting like it's pocketable lmfao
So you call Russ fat?
Russ himself explicitly states he doesn't carry it in his pocket?
It's not comfortable?
It's not pocketable?
The entire point of "pocketable" is "fits in pocket"
Something that makes your pockets so fucking heavy you can't move or sit down properly without bending the thing in your pocket does not fit in the pocket
If you have to use two hands to get it out because it's impossible to get it past the lip of your pocket in the first place it does not count as pocketable
Nobody is carrying this thing in their pocket
It's the exact same level of stupidity as Ayaneo calling every device the a pocket
Despite literally one of their devices fitting in a pocket and only then when it has the sticks surgically removed
Stop lying
Fuck
I mean, I don't know what to tell you if you don't want to believe it.
Go sit down right now
And then try to take it out
Fucking dumbass argument dude
Hurr durr my 11 inch device with protruding sticks fits in a pocket and makes a gigantic fuckass lump that rips the stick off any time I shift slightly
I'm so intelligent
I look like a tool bag because my jeans have a tackle box stuffed down them it's so portable and pocketable guys!!
Reconnect with reality
take a break man
Why would I care about what other people think about the bulge in my pants
Can't wait to stuff my entire ak47 down my jeans and then argue that it's a concealable weapon to morons on discord
If you’re getting mad over this I think it’s time to step away for a little…
so you're just always unpleasant?
Thor is absolutely pocketable lol
Yeah get used to it
Steam deck is pocketable
I have a pair of oversized cargo shorts that makes it pocketable
Argue with a wall
Nah man it's legitimately is
I actually agree with you that it’s not the most practical to pocket but you’re clearly mad about this
I dunno what else to tell you
I think you can’t argue that it can in fact, be pocketed however
I'm glad you discerned my emotional state and care so much as to comment on it
This is my unhappy place
I play another super Mario 3d and die to ice bully and throw my Thor across the room
nah but odin 2 is
Nobody even pockets anything bigger than an rgNano, but heck, it fits in a damn pocket
It's almost like "pocketable" does not mean "can I physically stuff it in a pocket to my own physical detriment" and the only people that argue those devices are pocketable are fucking idiots
do you have a big phone you can show off
8,4 inch tablet
What the hell did i miss in here lmao
I wouldnt take this out and about but a lot of that was pretty uncalled for man
He doesn't like his ideas being challenged it makes him upset and feel called out
Some people wear shorts, some people wear sweatpants, it's pretty easily doable
thing is i literally agree with him, for me the limit of pocketable is an rg28xx or a miyoo mini, but it's funny
see, it's fun
The videos are hilarious
Oh yeah i wouldn't put anything other than a funkey s or an rg nano in my pocket myself
OH REALLY
a lot of handhelds here are borderline, depends on the person really
But i pocket this around my house all the time, i work from home lol
I mean, it can be pocketable without being practical and it depends on the pants/pockets obviously.
like how big are your phones, i have a pixel xl and it's getting there w typical handhelds
Pixel 8 is the biggest phone I've ever had
Like, funny haha, but the Thor would be easily pocketable in those N64 pants, ahaha.
I know you're not literally screaming but im not sure where your point is coming from here
I take my Thor on walks to a nearby coffee for a couple days now
i wouldn't pocket it cause i have other shit in my pocket, not particularly because it would be annoying to take around
^
Guys I just broke my UCS millennium falcon trying to put it in my pants
Like yes, it's the only thing in said pocket but it is undeniably pocketable
well hey, i can fit an rp5 and a flip 2 in the same pocket
"undeniably pocketable" while literally not even being the definition of pocketable
https://youtu.be/ehpH__7ZUsw?si=y5tU7-E0rQTs99mB dna getting salty about thor 🤨
The Ayn Thor had big potential, but to me I have other thoughts after owning it for 2 weeks.

lmao
Something that is pocketable can RESIDE REGULARLY in the pocket in which you place it
Nonsense
it can't?
Regularly has absolutely no bearing
maybe you need to feed it
what's that one size comparison site
If you guys don't stop being mean to me I'm going to put the N64 back in my pants
Retrocatalog?
there's shit like the fold phones that are definitely there in size
people do carry it in their pockets
one for 3d
Like (wayyy) before the Thor I used to pocket my New 3DS XL with a case in the same way
do it, i bet you had a little chuckle doing it, it's fun
Had those big clip on shells too
the z folds are getting thinner and thinner
I had a zflip3
fold
It was nice for 6 months and then the crease
I could probably put it in a pocket with a N64 I'd say
Always wanted one of those
but yea most "big" phones are p much handheld length/width just not thickness
while fold phones are similar thickness on top
But I'm not willing to pay $1.2k+
You're spiralling lmao
Dude should pocket a GameCube for good measure
brb
Looking forward to buying a Thor 2 with SDG3 and Steam OS
I know he tries to be objective but he comes across so bitter that people lost interest in his dual screen add on and just bought a Thor instead
Someone freaking out and typing a message every 10 seconds means they're mad more like
You are malding
having a higher typing speed than 20wpm makes you angry
@crude tulip it got stuck on my pants
Damn never seen someone miss the point like that
This is the real reason they don't let you wear sweat pants at the stripclub
you need the Gameboy Player add-on on this
This guy lmao
lol, the DNA duo guy was always funny for acting like he invented the wheel... like add-on screens for stuff have been a widespread thing in the 90s
74.95
a little too expensive for the bit unfortunately
who owns a GCN but no GB Player, insanity
He acts like he's the Nikola Tesla of dual screen handhelds and the Thor Thomas Edison'd him
he literally made a overpriced niche product and Retroid beat him to the market, nothing he invented in the real sense, heck, there have been Chinese add-on screens for the PS4 and Xbox
New pocketable clamshell handheld just dropped
looks pocketable
Don't make me post the Jnco gif
Dude just needs to accept his business failed and stop crapping on anything else thats better and cheaper
Hows the hinge
He's coping to the point that he's making up fake pricetags for the Thor
Why would you not just get retroids dual screen at that point too
did dna ship his products yet or is he letting preorder buyer protections run out
on gamenative yes not gamehub
There's rumors that it's the DRM on the game not allowing it to launch from GameHub or something to that effect
i tried for a week to get absolum on steam working and from what ive read, yeah its not possible due to drm on the steam version
I did it boys. I bought it. Got the black Max model. My first emulation device. Been in tune with this market for two years now but I finally decided to pull the trigger. The Thor is exactly what I’ve been looking for. Question: I chose DHL, how long do you think it will take? I’m in the states
Depending on how it takes to process a week maybe for just the shipping
No idea when said process will start tho since there is a queue
I see, I see! Well I’ll be waiting with a lot of anticipation
About a week once DHL has it but I wouldn’t expect it to ship out for another 2-3 weeks
DHL was 5 days to NY
I wanted to preorder it initially but I wanted to wait for reviews first because you never know
Not that it matters, but the price point he mentions checks out in CAD.
the game is good enough its worth installing gamenative as well. i'm launching from es-de either way so not really any more work after install
watch the shipping dashboard on Ayn's website to see when your order is shipped
Yup, I will be checking everyday for the foreseeable future haha
Idk how other models are shipping but glad you didn't get purple pro like me
That model is never getting shipped 🙁
oh wow it works on gamenative?
cant get it to work
edit, working now with bionic container
I know that hand drawn art work would look so good on the OLED panel
it's either the frame or thor for me
I'm excited for a wireless headset that runs SteamOS instead of that atrocious meta software
i wonder how muchll the frame cost
Lol I just bought the Thor I don't need to start wanting another device so soon
Get ready for SteamOS on the Thor (and by extension the Pocket DS as well, everyone gets SteamOS!), at least once the community cracks the Arm-Build to get it working on 8 Gen 2.
Dude can't say a damn thing about the Thor (or RDS) without being miserable. How about you work on actually shipping the product you promised your customers?!
So glad I didn't back the DNA Dual Thingie
i dont want to personally use steamos on this device, but i want the advances a steamos could bring to making pc games work on arm, be rolled into gamehub and gamenative
Definitely, the popularity of the Steam Deck has been amazing for Linux and cross platform gaming
The thor is a pretty awesome device.
the only thing thats good about the frame is that its not meta
B&W passthrough tho 🙁
I'm more than willing to accept compromises for that fact alone
Valve has got something up their sleeve
Thats a very respectable take.
The frame is an interesting choice to showcase with the box
i threw my soulaway by buying both quest 3 and quest pro
It's not too late to repent and reclaim 😉
The fact it’s literally got SteamOS running on Arm (with proper compatibility for Steam pc games and everything) and it’s sporting a very respectable 8 Gen 3 is frankly already a good thing to “have up their sleeve”.
I was contemplating getting the Quest 3 but now I'm glad I held off to wait for Valve's offering
the software alot more intresting the the tech tbf.
Like shit, I still can’t get over that, this thing literally will support pc games standalone, no computer needed (unless you want better performance obviously).
i mean ye if you have anything lower than like the quest3,pro, or like things like pico4 the frame is going to be a good upgrade.
Depending on how cheap it is, it’s also admittedly way more interesting for people like me that have never gotten into VR before due to the usual price point.
The fact Valve is aiming for something slightly cheaper than the Index is doing a lot of work in making it at least more appealing than the other options.
I'm not trying to be dismissive about it, just saying I think there will be something else to accompany it
tbf i'm not in the market for a new vr headset but i guess the deckard hype people got a bit to me with the weird kinds of specs they fantasized about
Yeah, the most exciting thing about the Frame is proper confirmation that ARM SteamOS is in usable form.
Lol legit thought you had cut your finger off or something when I was scrolling up
I mean, colors have to come from somewhere
@errant dome 3 coats of red and 3 coats of clear ya reckon?
Looks like it's really dependent on your colour/configuration
Once it ships about 4~7 business days in my experience.
Once it ships anyway, ahaha.
yeah as long as you get good coverage. definitely dont want to do too many so it doesnt run, and the more you put the longer you wait for it to dry
the yakuza method of spray painting
2:30 minutes in, basically he’s saying he makes his own competing product 😂
Black max
Wow, when did you buy? 4px?
4:30 - "not trying to promote this because we're talking about [the Thor]"
4:45 - "just put this thing together quickly so I can promote this"
Spends the rest of the video talking about his product
🤣
who is he and why is he relevant?
Never heard of him before, I think he's just using the Thor craze and clickbait title to promote his product
Yeah… I stopped watching at 2:35
He used to be a pretty big deal I think but he burned a lot of bridges recently and tried to make a product that is still vapourware
He's like Taki without the talent
Acquired taste....I guess?
Trying to ride those Thor hate train vids
And, ok, we all have biases and wishes. To be fair, I’m trying to decide whether or not to get a Thor, and a big part of my hesitation is that I love my Steam Deck, I’m always gravitating towards my Steam Deck whenever it’s an option, and it seems like I never have time to play outside of the house. So, just make myself excited about what I already have so far…
But the Thor does look super cool, and me wants 😂
If he actually just released the duo and you know, sold it for a reasonable cost, he probably could still do pretty well, but ig slandering the competition is easier
it sounds like youre happy with what you got, are you desperate for a ds/3ds experience? cause if not, it sounds like youre already set
Clamshell portable just seems like the most logical design. Not sure how much I care about dual screens, but I’ve never tried DS/3DS games, and it does seem like a better value than the Retroid Flip 2 so why not spend just a bit more?
Yeah, 4PX. I pre-ordered, mine was shipped the second or third day of shipment I think? Took 7 business days to arrive.
Oh, I mean I am also doing the “pro thor” mental gymnastics too 😂
Sheesh - my man needs to go outside and touch grass. After watching that video and reading his unhinged comments he's guaranteed that I never buy anything from him.
I kinda want to watch just out of curiosity hsha
For the Pro’s, it’s like… it does everything my existing (smaller than Deck) handhelds do and emulates an even wider array of things, and I also like the flippy screen for protecting the screen and joysticks in a bag (or, dare I say, pocket?!) without a Thor case.
If you're happy with what you already have and don't have a burning desire to play NDS/3DS the ideal way or want a second screen for multitasking I'd maybe wait to see how ARM SteamOS pans out.
Who knows, maybe it even has better emulation performance than the Steam Deck.
(Does anyone know this? lol)
yeah you sound like youre having fomo. i know this is odd coming from someone who has a thor, but i was really looking for a ds/3ds replacement
and then i sold every other device i owned lol
Yeah today’s announcement had me stoked! I was back from a late lunch at work and didn’t get anything done for awhile because I was like “Noooo way!”
“valve counted three!!”
I wanted a second screen to multitask and NDS/3DS was just a bonus for me so the Thor was easy to justify.
Really excited about the near future prospects of ARM SteamOS though.
I'm doing the exact same thing... only I do enjoy DS/3DS games so I should buy one... right? 😂
I think Thor works so well because we all love to tinker here and that's what this thing is.
That does seem like a missing piece of the puzzle… I didn’t have nor knew anyone who owned a DS or 3DS! But surely there’s awesome games on there.
It plays all the games and you get the extra screen to just do whatever the fuck you want
It helps that the second screen makes tinkering easier being able to keep a video/guide open at the same time
if you've never tried DS/3DS it's worth it IMO. all the single screen consoles are a sick bonus
yeah with so much emerging because of this and the pocketds, plus gamehub/native progress, there is a lot of tinkering. if you like that, its great. if someone wants an out of the box experience, i would not recommend this
True, don't buy a Thor for PC games, especially if you already own a Steam Deck
The DS alone has an awesome cataloge. I recently hacked a 3DS XL and love it, except the screen is so dull compared to modern devices (advantage Thor!)
I think the Thor ruined d-pads for me because I never owned a device with tactical d-pads before and it’s incredible. Everything else feel really cheap and mushy in comparison now😅
True, buy it for mh4u
Tbh, since the 3DS store was shut down, if I had 3DS games I’d definitely buy a Thor 😂
For me, the appeal is more… it’s just better than the Retroid Flip 2, and basically the best clamshell device on the market.
I don’t think my ADHD could actually handle the second screen well if they were doing totally separate things… I barely can use two monitors on a PC 😂
Same! I want it for DS and 3DS specifically. DOn't need to watch a video while I play
I like to put Spotify on the bottom screen and listen to music while I play
That’s great to hear!!! Cuz… I tried to do Clamshell on the cheap, and got the Anbernic RG 35xxSp… gotta press the D-pad and every button HARD!
Now there’s an idea.
WIth the H.Shop available a hacked DS gives you access to literally everything in the 3DS shop. Only it's an extremely lethargic process.
I was a bit sad having to sell my 477M because it the only small candybar system I have but then I played with the bottom screen only and was like “hmmm, this actually feels the same??” Expect with front facing speakers and better battery
I was setting up Marvel Vs Capcok 3 on GameHub and was surprised how got it felt, the dpad position was no issue either, at least with the grip
(I’m not gonna fix that typo)
oh damn we got a mahvel player here?
Was think in by about putting Infinite there too for the whole MvC roster but apparently it can’t do stable 60fps
I didn't like the soft dpad feeling of 477m, is the one on thor more like a ds lite?
It’s closer, 477 didn’t feel great in comparison either
I could also honestly see them updating the Android version of the Steam app to actually be a proper app for downloading and playing PC games as opposed to it basically just being a fancy way to buy games from their storefront
that would be the best outcome
Closing the lid puts this to sleep?
Are there CFW?
Thank you
Before the end of 2026 👌
How long have people waiting for theirs to even ship typically?
Mine shipped after 2 weeks ish
I still think it's pretty ballsy and cool that dnaduo guy made the second screen add on. Doing that sort of thing is commendable. But no reason to crap on other potentially competing products. He had points . I just don't agree
He's a dick
yeah. "Niche device" as opposed to my device that's a bulky second screen addon you wouldn't wanna use outside, vs a sleek well designed full device that has 2 great screens in a recognizable ff
I seriously don't get his whole argument and how much he felt the need to call out how "niche" the Thor is
Does he think that his clunky add-on screen will be mainstream and sell millions
Yeah it's weird to call a suped up version of one of the most successful handhelds ever a niche device. Honestly it's a device with pretty wide appeal, it's got a great screen for single screen gaming, good price to performance, and runs all dual screen stuff as well as you'd want
you guys see the horizon announcement? if it has controller support (god willing) it's going to be dope on these things
I do agree that it's a niche device cause all these emulation handhelds are but I don't get what point he's trying to get at especially when compared to his own product
What announcement?

mobile horizon mmo, seems like they are leaning into a monster hunter style
saying Taki the scammer Udon has talent is kinda wild too... given how all his shit is also vaporware...
what kind of paint are you using?
Dna is going nuclear
Their thor video only has 800 views (in 16 hours) on a channel with 120K Subs?
He spent half the video saying we are idiots for not buying the dna duo 🤣
Ah I see. The vested interest
I pity his kid
Starting your own business is a huge risk, pity this guy priced themselves out of the market
Nah, he fully deserves it, hope his life savings gone poof
He sure picked a bad time to launch a flimsy little magnet snap-on dual screen attachment.
Again
Not being funny. But you could probs make a dna duo with parts from AliE and a 3D printer for 1/4 of the price. Even if the retroid screen didnt exist 🤣
He’s been trying to ride the hate train vids for multiple different devices.
Nah, I got mine, so his stuff is totally real (it’s just instead bs that they pulled a Retroid before Retroid for some particularly unlucky people). Meanwhile DNA literally hasn’t even shipped a single Duo.
Is the video worth watching for the lulz?
I think I have his channel in my do not recommend list
it's just him rambling about how all clamshells are uncomfortable to use and then pulling out a Odin 2 Portal with a DNA attached to it
not worth it
I’m sure taki is a great hardware engineer but he needs an operations guy to run his company ASAP
I will never buy shit from him again, end of story
I got my Mister Pi and standalone Switch Lite OLED screen from him. Still waiting on the Swith Lite OLED HDMI mega thing and the Super Station.
I’m sure you guys have had awful ordering experiences
My point stands on the need for an operations hire
yep 😄 does need a lot of work
I was hoping for just a pc port tbh
Bro managed to ragebait himself
Lmaoooooo this fucking guy
I’m glad people are finally recognizing how nonsensical and bs this guy is.
It sucks that it took him trash talking an Ayn handheld that renders his stupid vaporware useless, but at least people finally will stop excusing his nonsense solely because of “the Duo looks pretty cool”.
Truly the DSP of the retro handheld community
I for one find it hilarious that he doesn't seem to pick up on the cognitive dissonance between raving about "AYN Thor shills" while he personally has a vested interest in telling you not to buy the Thor.
It's such a weird approach and he's trying to play dumb by saying "It's just my opinion" like that's not the problem here
Or, for that matter, any dual screen device.
Mark Zuckerberg reviews the new Steam VR headset and shitting on it while pulling out the meta quest for half of the video to tell you how much better it is in a totally unbiased way
And how dare anyone question it
I think the sales will settle the argument hah
What he sold was in most respect a stopgap product until the industry's R&D ironed out how to present a proper dual screen device and instead of simply pivoting his marketing to another audience, even if it's going to be a smaller one (hey, current owners of an Android handheld can still have a use for this thing if they're not getting the Thor for whatever reason but still want dual screen capabilities), he's complaining that the customers are going toward the product they actually want.
he should probably work on getting out his products and people actually getting the fucking things in his hands rather than complaining and bing a twat
i agree with him. i sold mine Ayn Thor Max after 1 week. Ergonomicaly Thor is very bad. Triggers are horrible for FPS and Racing games :/ i left Ayn Odin3 preorder and i hope it will be mine portable device.
It's not about the opinion. It's about who the opinion is coming from and that opinion being used to cynically sell a product
well yeah what a shocker that retro duascreen clamshell have horrible triggers for modern shooters and racers
That's what the "the customer is always right" saying actually means; You won't get anywhere by trying to tell the market the'yre buying the "wrong" product, it's on you to adapt what you offer (or even just how to market it; even now, I can see a sensible use for the DNA Duo for those who want a cheaper way to add dual screen capabilities to their existing device)
thats like being surprised that SNES gamepad is bad for modern rpgs case doesnt have enough buttons
Yeah if you play a lot of modern racing games and fps then you should probably not get a clamshell
And then there was child me playing the Need for Speed DS games for dozens upon dozens of hours
and only really few GC/PS2 and up require that ... most pre platorm doesnt eve use triggers for racing shooting anyway
A for acceleration always feels wrong
meanwhile kids are playing fortnites on touch and having a blast
I want to use the funny triggers, analogue triggers where possible
while we rant about triggers no being modern triggery enough in retroDS clam
As someone who primarily plays older racing games R2 feels wrong
If I want good triggers, I have my fancy wireless controller.
It even has hardware switches to toggle between analog and digital
tbh i can even think of game i would want to play on thor that needs that
even including switch
I have a similar issue with an older friend, they always map Y-axis movement to inverted as that's what they grew up with
given even switch 2 doesnt have analog triggers
so its basically just like few games across PS2/GC and maybe android stuff
And now that gamehub came into the picture, PC
oh yeah ... bu there i would stlll jus rather used O2P instead 😄
Only gamecube comes to mind tbh, not sure how many racers on there made use of the analogue properties for the triggers. Mario sunshine sure did though
6" is too little for modern pc games
Eh, depends on which
isnt is just half pres and fullpress in sunshine?
I definitely wouldn't start a game of Civilization on a Thor but there are plenty of modern PC games that work just fine on a small screen
