Black is most practical, for the enhanced immersion, but more obvious smudginess.
White looks best with the TPU casing if you plan to have it.

It plays fine for the most part, it’s just some areas that really tank in performance, which unfortunately includes a lot of the digital world areas and a good chunk of the real world areas.

For most of those, it still holds up well enough to be above 30fps, but in some…I’ve unfortunately seen dips to around 22fps, and no amount of settings tweaks seemed to help much with those particular problem areas (Iliad Central Area and Gear Village being the absolute worst in this particular regard).

The discussion and feedback on my Thor review have been incredible! I wanted to pin this comment to issue a couple of major corrections and add crucial clarity on a few key points that have come up.

1. 🚨 MAJOR CORRECTION: AnTuTu Benchmark Scores were Flipped on the Thor - This is the most significant error in the review, and I sincerely apologize. I have since cut this part out of the video.

   ❌ The Mistake: I stated the Thor had a low GPU score and a high CPU score (they were flipped). This created a false impression that the device was severely thermal throttling on the GPU end.

   ✅ The Big Picture: The Thor's total AnTuTu score is nearly identical to the other AYN Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 units (the Odin 2 and Portal). The gameplay tests are the true showcase of its power.

My mistake misrepresented the device's performance profile. I sincerely apologize to everyone for the confusion this caused.

2. Hinge "Wobble" is Intentional - I mentioned a tiny bit of lateral play in the hinge. I've since confirmed this is 100% by design, as so many of you pointed out, thank you! It's a tolerance feature, common in clamshells and the 3DS XLs do the exact same thing, to relieve stress on the stiff hinge mechanism. It's a sign of good durability engineering, not a flaw.

3. 120Hz Mode & Bottom Screen Stutter As shown in the video, enabling 120Hz on the top screen can cause tearing on the bottom 60Hz screen. This is NOT a bug, but a known and expected compromise. The bottom panel cannot physically run at 120Hz, so this is the innovative solution AYN engineered to unlock the top screen's full refresh rate in dual-screen mode.

   ✅ The Good: It doesn't damage the panel at all and allows both screens to run at their native refresh rates.

   🔧 The Fix: If it bothers you during dual-screen play, just set both screens to 60Hz in the quick settings. This resolves it completely.

4. 🚨 MAJOR CORRECTION: Widevine Status - The AYN Thor has Widevine L3.

   ❌ What this means: Apps like Netflix and Prime Video will be limited to 480p.

   ✅ The Exceptions: For some reason, Crunchyroll's app DOES still stream at 1080p. YouTube also works perfectly up to 4K with HDR.

I am very sorry for the confusion on these points. It's still a class-leading emulation and local media handheld, but it is not ideal for most DRM-heavy streaming apps (only Crunchyroll).

The input lag on thor does not to appear to be nominally different from standard. 3ds emulation especially wasnt the best demonstration of it since it already has quite a bit from the emulator.

In any case its not bad enough that you wont get used to the difference in a short session. Pretty much every wireless controller is similar or even worse and very few complain about it.

Fair enough, was mainly wondering since given the whole issue with the screen was that it’s “too soft” and would regularly get light bleed from any types of micro-deviations in the manufacturing process, there’s always the possibility of it randomly either being “worse in person” or “worse on camera”.

There’s a reason this enough of an issue for AYANEO to outright go “please cancel the order and ask for a refund if this will bother you, there’s literally no way to fix this beyond redesigning the device to use completely different screen”. Anyone that’s fine with the issue can keep their order, but anyone that isn’t fine is outright recommended to cancel.

I mean, the difference in what they can achieve is very minimal, the main differences I think are worth mentioning are just the metal top screen and the bigger screens, although the bottom screen isn't Oled like the Thor, and the bigger screen size makes it not really pocketable like the Thor just about is, also, the Early-Bird price for 12+256gb is $439(more expensive than the 16+1tb Thor), retail will be however much more meanwhile for the same spec Thor is $90 cheaper, even with the Thor accessory pack and 256gb SD card from their store it's still $10 cheaper than the PDS,

The main benefits would be the very nature of the fact that it’s a bigger Thor with appropriately bigger screens, the bottom screen in particular being way more of a proper match with the top screen in 4:3 content than the Thor, so you don’t end up having to make the top screen way smaller than it normally would be just to match the look of games like Sonic Rush.

If you did 4px to the US, you can check USPS informed delivery. I got a separate shipping number waiting for it. Luckily it says it left Illinois the 16th when my 4px just says measuring since the 14th. If I had to guess, it’s probably still coming from China though and not leaving Illinois or I’d probably have it by now

Also if you have a usps tracking number, you can text the number to 28777 to get text updates if you dont want to check your email constantly.

I think that’s overstating things a bit. I’ve played a shitload of Just Cause 2 on the RP Mini. Thor Base is much more capable. It’ll handle most PC games up to XBox360\PS3 era.

Maybe we tried this at different times. Getting steam to even run on winlator with an Ayaneo pocket dmg was a real chore when I tried. On gamehub games would load but that was about it

Well, yeah, Winlator can be a chore. I haven’t tried Gamehub etc.
But the difference between Base/Pro/Max for whether & how well these run is ram headroom. Everything else depends on settings - if something runs on Pro, it should run on Base with the same settings, unless it runs out of memory.
