weaker devices can struggle with emulating 3DS due to how undeveloped emulators for its games are, I actually have a better time with Switch games than 3DS when emulating games with my RP Classic (Switch games don't max out FPS but run smoother - 3DS games stutter quite a bit)

3D effects in Ace Attorney games make the experience a lot better in many scenes.
The main issueI have with 3D on my n3DSxl is that its camera is aging and when lighting is not good the stabilization function goes nuts and the game is unplayable.

I do wish I could find someone to fix that for me though.

So if you want to buy a used n3ds(xl), my lesson is to not forget checking the camera / super stable 3D functionality.

Just watched the RetroGameCorps review of Ayaneo Pocket DS. And as I thought the D Pad is pretty much unusable where he basically avoids games that require D Pad or remaps stick to D Pad. He also mentions stylus isnt the same on these screen as well as micro stuttering on 3DS and additinal input lag being limited to 60fps. These are the same concerns I have with Thor and I wonder if they will be the same issues in his Thor review

Stylus: That's the difference in touch screen tech, AYN will be the same (this is better than using the 3DS' ancient touch screen tech, however)
3DS emulation: That's just the state of 3DS emulation for you, maybe these devices will bring some new attention to this, but you never know

Yes i emulate DS games on my S23 Ultra phone with the S Pen which is great for stylus only games but not any games that use physical buttons

Just a summary what i mentioned in the Ayaneo Pocket DS channel

DS Games - D Pad centric so compromised controls. Stylis still isnt as good and this doesnt use the S Pen technology that Samsung uses

3DS Games - micro stuttering due to shaders cache. Lose optional Stereo 3D effect. Double input lag compared to original hardware (cant use runahead on 3DS), and limited to 60hz refresh rate if you use dual screens so cant further reduce input lag.

I suspect Thor is marginally better with the button layout with it being less cramped (but also less device to grip on to). I am fully anticipating the dpad to be unusable for me especially when I have dpad top options I can easily pick from. But this is also why I choose the Thor and without considering the Aya one bit… Why? The Thor has the TPU grip day one, which was the biggest deciding factor for me.

Are you able to test something for me on azahar? Im trying to see what is causing more input lag. Ive tested it on my Portal with 60hz and 120hz. Theres definitely more input lag at 60hz. My commute is about 20~30 min on the train. I often need to check a walkthrough to remember where I was or to check where to go next. What I do now is either have hotspot and switch between browser and emulator if I have my android device with me or have my phone in the other hand if I am using my cheap linux handheld. Having to handle two devices with a screen on the train is very annoying.

Actually I should clarify that I don't rely on walkthrough heavily, but when I do need to check a walkthrough it is when something is very off and I need to follow the guide very carefully. When that happens it would be great to have a second screen.

It's just a nice QoL thing.
It's the difference between just looking down/quickly tapping on something and having to take your hand off to pull out your phone, look up the thing, and putting back the phone.

Like, if you appreciate the immediacy of having two monitors for your computer when you can technically do everything on one it's a similar deal

If my handheld dies I'll just plug it in later. If my phone dies it's basically a scramble to plug it in somewhere to make sure I don't miss something

I have 2 use cases.

First is to source a 120hz panel to set up dual 120hz dual screen for DS and 3DS games with least input lag on the RG477M

2nd is is to play games on an external display like my XR Glasses at 120hz which can be useful for gamestreaming or reducing input lag on retro emulation while conserving battery and have internel screen turned off

Not sure how hard it would be but remember that all these dual screen devices lower to 60hz when both screens are used. They said it's an android limitation. Maybe it's possible but hopefully at least the newer android versions support it.

Seen Russ is stylus showcase but one thing he didnt test is a display that has a digitiser screen like a Samsung tablet or phone that come with stylus. I tested Phantom Hourglass on my S23 Ultra with acfive stylus and it has way less delay than Russ examples

As far as RAM goes, not too much for emulation except maybe hi res texture packs.
If you like playing around with Winlator/related then it'll matter a lot more.

Realistically, the differences with the built-in storage is what'll be more noticeable for most people.
The cost bump is about the same as the equivalent MicroSD card and it'll let you more comfortably load up on large native Android games.

The fact that I'm a weirdo that renames all his roms to just -game name-, -game name [English v1.2]- for a fan translated game, and -romhack name [v1.1]- for a romhack means most automatic scrapers just screw up and I have to do a ton of work manually anyway.

SteamGridDB is a resource I haven't taken advantage of in my manual efforts, though I've found launchbox's site has most things I'd want anyway.

I know 865 runs 3ds just as good as the rest. But are there any concerns with the second screen, or with scaling and textures? Or is the 865 basically OP for that system?

Just trying to avoid paying an extra $100 just to play 3ds at the same experience
