The weird situation with SNES makes it so the games actually look natural for both 8:7 and 4:3 (where the former will still look taller than the latter, but it’s not as drastic of a difference as “stretching GB/GBC to 4:3”).

That’s the funny part, Item Blocks are supposed to be perfect squares in all the games (including all the future games), but they’re only perfect squares at 8:7, 4:3 squishes them.

Helps that I actually looked back on my order history and pictures, and apparently I literally just Mandela effected myself into thinking my first modded GBC was an Atomic Purple? The literal oldest of my orders was a shitty Grape one that I had to reshell, and the first one I did a “no-trim” mod on was a Teal, so that was actually the one I loved enough to keep the stock shell for.

That’s the main reason I’m wondering whether or not it’s “Beetle capable”.

We went literally forever thinking that Monster Hunters Tri for Wii is too difficult to emulate properly and would run horribly on most devices…until Calicoma figured out it was almost entirely because of a specific setting that is normally supposed to be disabled on a per-game basis but they just somehow skipped on the defaults end (can’t remember what it was specifically).

Found it, the setting that needs to be disabled is Dual Core, which is a setting that Dolphin itself will automatically disable on a per-game basis if the game is too inconsistent with it, but they just skipped Tri entirely, and so enabling Dual core for general settings will also enable it for that game unless you go back and disable it. And somehow no one ever bothered to actually test and confirm if that was the issue.

It's still nice to have extra power for things like more accurate emulators, higher end shaders, certain android and winlator games, etc. Some people would like that extra power without the look or possible lowered comfort/pocketability of sticks

The Ayaneo Pocket Micro is another device that legitimately suffered in design ideas because of the insistence on sticks. It's so small and that it does not have much space on the front and because of the sticks, it left the start, select, and function buttons on the edge of the device awkwardly. It also got in the way of pockets. They have made a version with no sticks in response to the feedback but it is unfortunate the start and select buttons are still on the edge
