#Retroid Pocket Flip 2 (Cows Ascended)
1 messages · Page 29 of 1
That would put pressure on the US to yield.
dont worry, the US has no allies left
Vietnam might get punished for swearing fealty to trump
But yeah other than that not sure who they would punish
Isolationism tends to ostracize potential allies lol
ngl I don't know how to feel as a minute 1 preorder after hearing Joey's concern
cheap plastic, poor speakers and a whiny fan are all things that would bother me
The fan thing has to be at least partially software
It runs like mad even in quiet mode
and I don't have a lot confidence that these will be resolved in retail units
that's fair, if you're in doubt you can just cancel and buy it later when more people have it in their hands
There, back on topic
I like to live dangerously, just wish I knew what I'm getting
Retroid isn't answering Joey so
I've had the same doubts but we've already talked about this yesterday
Joey really loves to overblow things
Russ and Stubbs said it felt fine to them so that's good enough for me
besides, even with the flaws, I've wanted a powerful clamshell for a long time now and the flip2 is the only option that doesnt cost 1000+ € so I'll just deal with them haha
They're not gonna run out of stock tbh If you're in doubt just wait the consumers opinion pop out here and yt / fb .
Would you rather cancel and potentially see everyone else enjoy the toy you thought wouldn't be good enough? Or hold on to the pre-order and possibly be the first to get a piece of noisy flexy garbage nobody wants to play with?
also did I hallucinate it or did at least one reviewer described the speakers as bassy and punchy?
Dweeb did i think , he liked the speakers
Dweeb is light Canadian and Joey is dark Canadian
if you throw out criticisms about 500 minor/possible issues you can be that one guy that definitely told you so when there's an issue
trusted early access reviewer
I am not against Joey at all
Guy pointed out the flaws he found , it's up to the consumers to find it tolerable or not
I prefer Joey's crochety guy routine over tech dweeb's nerdisms
For me , that plastic on the Ice Blue is a no go
But it's easy to understand why people might dislike either
So i thank him for pointing it out
People don't like Dweeb because of the trolling tone on his videos, in 2025 that's not for everyone. I watch him because he's funny , he's ETA but funny
People don't like Joey because some folks want the reviewers to validate their purchasing choice.
yep thats the only reason why people might find Joey annoying
that's exactly why I find him annoying when I see videos of devices I dont have and dont intend to buy
I want him to validate my nonexistant purchases
the main thing i remember is him changing the sticks on the rg556 and going wow what an improvement when it does barely jack shit without gamma stick fix
I'm like 90% sure that's his actual voice tbh, though if you go back a few years in videos you can tell he toned down the shtick a lot since then
Yea his old voice used to be so much worse
I don’t mind his voice these past few years
I mean everyone didn't know it was software issue that cause the sticks like that
But back then holy shit
You can also don't watch him so your purchasing choices can still fell validated
If he's putting on a fake voice he's doing a terrific job because he sounds similar in live streams too
I watch him cause I value the information he provides with the big asterisk of "it's joey, so this end of the world issue is probably nothing, but good to know it exists"
We all know that's Russ doing the Canadian accent in there
My observation is that Joey says a lot of definitives. “These sticks are the WORST.” “This plastic is the WORST.” ETA hits the same tone but the positives. “This ABSOLUTELY will suit your needs.”
I often lean towards Russ’s opinion simply because it’s less colored than the other two.
Person like me I like watching top people reviews and know their stuff
Awesome
thats exactly what I was saying yesterday. I watch both ETA prime and Joey with the big asterisk in both directions
100%
if I wanted to feel validated I'd just watch ETA prime who just loses his mind about everything
sure, but thinking it was improved at all before you also apply the fix is uh
The way eta prime says geekbench cracks me up everytime
" Personally "
I'm not a negative review hater btw I only read negative reviews when making my decision
I'm just a joey hater
"I turned this 20 year old phone into an emulation BEAST!!!"
his takes aren't good
he just really wants to find stuff "other lesser reviewers" misses
didnt he also basically push Russ under the bus about the mini fiasco?
or am I misremembering
Again why this is matter tho I seen people try to improvement sticks to the device that had shit controls
Nope
" More info on my full review "
Review never comes
ah yes the good old "if you can't do better, you're not allowed to comment on it"
the dumbest phrase ever uttered on planet earth
it's his claim that what he did to it improved it
If it's shit it's shit
maybe some of you guys should reconsider your parasocial relationship with the youtubers you watch
cause it's kinda cringe
Yh safe
what does that even mean lmao
The only parasocial relationship I have is with magicx sean
I'm not even gonna say it's probably not gonna flex more than other devices, just what joey's takes on it are probably shit
like putting it on a table and pressing down to show it flexes? yea because it's a clamshell so it has solid contact with the desktop
try it on a regular device and the buttons/analog is going to cushion it
who is joey?
a reviewer
To be honest tho clamshell when it's flexes like that can bit a worried God forbid you sit on it and breaks you want a clamshell feel solid and hard
who the hell sits on their handhelds
Lots of people if they have the stuff on the sofa, bed
ah yes because sitting on a handheld is ever a good idea?
I keep most of my tech toys on my bed cause it's a double and I live alone
never sat on anything
and even if I did, I dont have a stainless steel ass and I dont sleep on a piece of wood
so it would prolly be okay
you should not sit on a handheld, a tablet, a laptop, or a phone do I really need to point out the obvious? 😅
no but it is known that you're 200% more likely to sit on a clamshell
try to sit on a rp5 with a full front glass panel and tell me how it goes
It could be anyone in your family who accidentally sit on something I'm not saying it would happen
don't sit on display including tvs
are we really saying "the flip2 shouldnt flex because what if my grandma sits on it"
are we at this point
so we should do bend tests on laptop screens for a potential sit accident? can we be serious people here?
do not sit on screens
should say a lot about his common sense/character
do not drop them either
what am I looking at
My theory for why the Retroid chat is cursed and Anbernic isn't it's because they have their stuff ready to ship fast.
We would be posting about the handheld if we had it
accidents happen but you can't expect tech to be indestructible, as long as thing are no less durable then reasonably expected anything else is silly
I was going to be put the meme but my gif is not working some reason
can confirm the anbernic channels I have been in have had shorter periods of weirdness
it's prolly right though, anbernic used to release one handheld every 26 minutes
so people had a lot to talk about
and channels like the ktr1 and 199 were crazy
Great time
kind of interesting seeing how ayn has effected the scene
I mean ayn is only company improve thier quality overall make me happy
And communication
a shame ayn has not made a clamshell but it is what it is
Hopefully soon
And actual software updates for their devices 🤯
would definitely buy a s8g2 clamshell from ayn
Odin 2 portal flip
eh that chip currently feels overkill
Nah
Not really
emulators that are more powerful are not in a great place yet
its really good cause it can handle everything you throw at it without having to fiddle with configs
Like the switch wii u and winlator and ps3
for arm at least, maybe is somewhat better on x86
with shaders on top of it and it just works
Exactly
There are rumors they may do it , a clamshell Portal would be awesome
yeah, that would be an instabuy for me
Hope to see one for the 360 one day , playing Gears of War in a handheld would be awesome
not being able to play the gears of war series on a handheld is unfortunate
If xbox decided to do gears of wars collection and put on pc
I will cry
Tears of joy
Mannnn
ah well maybe one day the series will be playable on a handheld
I never liked Gears of War 🥲
the gameplay would be very well suited to a handheld
a cover shooter would be much better for a handheld then a regular fps that might be more high octane
that's definitely true
I can't lie you speaking facts
still might play the occasional fps but a cover shooter would be more suited to the form factor
It really is more suited - much preferred playing the Gears of War games via Game Pass streaming compared to a FPS like Halo
You can trust Joey to find and notice flaws and issues. Same can't be said about how he exaggerates those flaws.
@wary sail I am curious how you feel about the grey retroid pocket flip 2 you received?
Halo is better with a mouse + keyboard
Bruh 1v1 me on MCC Halo 2 or Halo 3. lol
The Masterchief Collection on the pc is 👌
I havent played in a year so that might help you.
I got confession to make tho
I never played halo in my life
I know halo I seen people played it
Hell the commercial I seen them I was little kid
In terms of difficulty, halo 3 campaign is easiest.
if you ever wanted to start playing
Play 1 -4 and Reach , after that the series died tbh
Nah you have to play halo 5 to understand just how bad it got
Infinite is pretty fun too even if the story is pretty mediocre
Oh dear is that bad
The story is so bad it feels like a fanfiction
The guide is if it's made by Bungie = great
Not made by bungie = bad
SO halo 4 counts as bad
I was literally cheering for the covenant tbh
I heard stories about halo 5 being mis marketing for the story alone
I don't like 4 tbh 😂 But not as bad as 5 or Infinite
Halo 4 is okay imo, not great, not terrible
Microsoft literally did dirty to the franchise that made Xbox big imo
Kind of random 😅
As much as I want more halo it probably would have been for the best if they ended it after reach
which island
Honestly I didn't like reach myself
Honolulu
ah
Microsoft 2013 to 2017 was darkest days for the company alone
Reach was sort of the perfect ending imo
Sinner
Don't care
I remember being very confused by halo when it came out cause people were LOSING THEIR MIND about it
and I had always been a pc gamer and I was like "uhm it just looks like any other fps"
so I tried it
and
it was just a generic, if well made, fps
coming from doom, quake, half life I really didnt see why people were freaking out
I guess console people didnt know what a good fps was like
The series was pretty good but bugie had some weird plans for it that probably doomed it to fail after the 3rd game
How could they? No mouse
well halo had no mouse either haha
and hell, halo 1 was a good game
but half life it was not
Also comparing quake and half life to halo feels weird
Me with any COD
I gotta say the original modern warfare campaign was really well done
but yeah, never was a CoD fan
Halo is clearly different from what came before
Just in general
most of them better
Command and conquer renegade was the first multi-player fps I played
There was a good reason the halo series became a system seller it redefined the genre for years
played doom 2 in LAN cause I had 2 pcs in my house
I agree
cause there was nothing else like it
on console
Not just on console
and it didnt redefine anything on pc
Including the games you mentioned on pc
in fact 2 years after halo we had HL2 which was nothing like halo
and that DID redefine the genre
Well yea of course valve would go with something different it's valve
They go in different directions
The og Doom and Halo had a similar impact on the gaming scene in general
can you give me the titles of 3 big PC FPS that were clearly redefined by halo
cause I dont see it
oh I agree with that, halo is the reason FPS are on consoles right now
I just dont see the influence it had on pc gaming
What do you mean 3 big PC fps games most games became multiplatform eventually?
Due to how savvy steam was
tell me 3 titles that came out on pc after 2001 that are clearly inspired by halo
since you said it "redefined the genre" and I said "not on pc"
Crysis, Sims, GTA V
ok you got me
How to get Flip 2 without tarrifs:
Since it's the retroid chat
Mafia/ Red Dead Redemption >>>>>> GTA
genius
man I played RDR2 a couple years ago
Those colors 👌
It took me like 4 tries to get into it
and then something clicked and I did nothing else but play rdr2 until I finished it (I was on holiday leave)
2 screens too lol
what. a. game.
my flip one doesn't play most ps2/gcn well though or lite ps3/switch
Wish I could swap start/select but this is all Retroid had lol
rdr2 is superior to the original
It's wild west Elder Scrolls in terms of eternal gameplay
They sent me what ever buttons they had lying around
I didnt even play all the side content just beelined the main quest and I loved it
(and did the important side quests)
I did the main first and then completed again with the side quests.
I'd more excited for rdr3 than for GTA VI tbh
still holding out hope for RDR3 with sadie as the MC
and yeah I dont really care about GTA VI
Ill play it but Im not counting the days or anything
More like Flip BOooOooO
If Halo 4 used the same design aesthetic as 2 and 3 it would be hailed as king tbh. Story is fire.
I liked the dynamic between chief and Cortina, didn't really like the didact as a villain tbh
Halo enthusiast here. Halo 4 gameplay wise felt a bit off as well. But absolutely agree with story, especially the cutscenes
Really only ever played the Halo games in multiplayer at friends houses growing up, oddly I was really surprised to learn the games actually had a proper story in like freshman year of highschool when people were complaining about the story of the new game.
Unsurprisingly given that revelation my favorite games are Minecraft, Stardew Valley, and Lego Star Wars the Complete Saga
Halo Reach is the greatest war story ever told and I’ll die on that hill
20 out of 10 masterpiece
I mean, the original clone wars cartoon had clones and droids charging eachother with lances on speeder bikes...and mace windu punching super battledroids with his bare hands...
Ok so clone wars is more power trip fantasty than war story.
Remember Reach
Okay I was Watching Joey’s livestream and he was saying how he wished the flip 2 had the flip 1 hinge. That’s crazy right? Wasn’t that the unanimous MAIN ISSUE with the flip 1?
When did he say that?
His latest video. Right around where he lists his 3 big issues with the flip 2
timestamp
You sure?
I think you're misunderstanding him
I'm pretty sure he wants the flip 1 shell with the flip 2 hinge
He never said that
Joey on his discord responded to ur comment and said he never said that
Or never meant that
He prolly meant plastic
His hinge is still going good
Plastic quality seems mixed by reviewers but we don’t know if it’s QC or preprod issues, I don’t think Joey is overreacting that flex on his device looks terrible
Oh that makes sense. Yeah it was a passing comment when he was talking about the plastic quality. I think I misunderstood what he was actually saying.
Cause later says he can’t comment on the hinge cause the device is so new haha
My Bad. Just misheard.
If true, that’s a craaazy take. I mean apart from the watermelon being immune pretty much every color had hinge issues. Race car red was cooked on arrival
read literally the message above what you just typed for some reason lol
Imagine a DNA duo on a flip 2 😂😂
TLDR my bad
100%
he hasnt shipped a single one yet, dont give that dude a dime
Oh I’m absolutely joking

i feel the need to chime in, in case someone new sees it and goes to buy one
dont want them to be sad
at least not for that
Ppl be talking about Joey and forget about dna
The tariffs are gonna kill any progress he’s made I bet
Pretty sure he's Canadian so idk how much he'll be affected
Lmaoooo
I like the idea 🤷♂️
Basically if anberlick made a 40xxsp with sticks
Definitely more pocketable but probably cramped irl
I feel like you can make the DNA Duo for a fraction of the price yourself.
Like, I even recognize the cheap Aliexpress USB cable he uses.
There's just one problem
I dont have a 3d printer
3D print shops are relatively common depending on where you are. A lot of libraries offer it as a service too now.
But also, there are folding phone clamps you can just clamp a screen to.
Well I've used the mechanism phone mount before which is okay
Just now replaying halo 1 again
Love how simple it is
But honestly when you tally up the costs for the portable monitor as well as the 3d printing service, I don't think it's going to be that much cheaper than the dna duo
Depends on the monitor of course though
this is something that anbernic should do rn
Where would you even get a good screen?
I don’t even believe there’s a difference between engineering samples and review units and retail units. They just use that term to falsely heighten your expectations.
I got this ad on IG and it’s sad bc the first thing I thought of was the Flip logo 🤣
Maybe it’s a sign
Gee I wonder where they could find a 4:3 OLED… oh no.
Jokes aside I’d buy this if it were the 406 lcd
You’re right, this screen needs more bezels
406 lcd in a clamshell would be great
Just bigger footprint gba sp, don’t care if that’s sd865 or h700
Does ordering a set of replacement sticks to use for the rp flip 2 seem like something worth doing?
If you're planning on to use it very frequent for many years.
Well I mean as in case things get worn while tariffs are still going on
They’re hall sticks, they should last longer than the handheld
But not the rubber 😅
Can you get thumbstick caps. switch thumb caps may fit but won't close the shell completely so you would have to put them on every time you want to use. Unless you get thin caps for the clearance.
I use caps on all my handhelds so it doesn't degrade the thumbstick rubber over time.
That would look nice, but it seems there is not a complete gray button set available?🤷♂️

Where is "the darkness I contain could not be kept within the confines of a therapist's office and would surely be passed on for study"?
Happy weekend folks, what random shit we gonna be angry at today 😄
Probably anyone who recently ordered not getting their tracking number this weekend haha
I am going to laugh so hard when that happens 😄
What is the current state of the conversation?
when i scrolled up it was still on the joey bashing for weird reasons 😄
The dpad screen wars continue...
Flip2 It's just ugly...
Outside of the somewhat annoying emblem on the top the flip 2 seems to look fine
Brooo
Shipping starts tomorrow ( sunday ) as they said

Also it's very much a platformer lol
Precision, you could take or leave...
I didn't pay enough attention to tell if he was playing it wrong or not
I'm so cooked I my order was Placed on April 3, 2025 at 8:35 am
so
I'm not getting it this month :(
Did I miss a retroid announcement?
The repair parts that retroid could sell for the flip 2 will the same as the rp5?
I did and still understood it the way that I did. I was vocally open to being wrong bc it felt so bizarre and out of pocket that i figured I was misunderstanding some context or satire. Sorry for the trouble.
Yeah. Pretty sure alias was being sarcastic, like, this is what they think is happening in their heads, type deal
Yea i get that now, at the time there was enough actual nonsense going on that I figured some rando was throwing onto the fire
I ended up getting black - I like RGB and it goes best with a solid black console. I’ll eventually swap the buttons for skittles ones if Sakura Retro Mods or someone makes them.
I have a black Odin 2, black Deck, black 2DS XL, but a silver 35xx SP and a white Miyoo M+
And a turquoise modded Switch Lite
I should be consistent and go all black with everything lol
Maybe I’ll do a black shell swap when I get my Super5 OLED kit
bit of an odd review, he spent most of the video slating it then end says recommend 😄
He's not wrong about the controls but it feels like an omission to not mention that the sticks are on the outside because theyre full height and recessed, and they dont have to punch through the circuit board that way.
Although even cheap systems like the trimui smart pro use daughter boards for dpad and button surfaces so that could have been done I suppose.
This is tsp... Note the shitty analogs overlap the main board up up near the twisted speaker wires.
Has anyone done a flip teardown yet?
havent seen one, I think the chinese reviewer opened the back shell but that was it
You can just imagine though. Shift the analogs to the inside and theres very little space for processor cooling and battery.
Legend has it, Stubbs is still searching for the right screwdriver.
Trump just exempted computers from Chinese tariffs today
We're so back (for now)
Speaking of promoting factory growth, business opportunity to make a Chinese factory that builds a 2000lb r36s powered by an EV battery. Ships to us tariff free. Or maybe a 1000watt solar powered r36s.
The first time they tried earlier, they were just straight up trashing them, although that’s likely dependent on the shipping service.
It also needs a 10tb M.2 preloaded with 100,000 games
Man, I feel bad for whoever designed that Flip 2 top design because it has been universally hated on. Hope that person deletes reddit, discord, and whatever youtube subs.
Don’t forget that every time they try bringing up anything about them not being “true proud Americans”, they’re also being outright hypocritical since literally every American that isn’t outright a Native either has a legal or illegal immigrant as their earliest “American” ancestor.
Why are we talking politics
Ah, wait I just realized how old this was, sorry for bringing this topic back up.
I feel bad for them too, not because of people complaining though
Imagine thinking that looks good
Because I just went into this channel and it was the first thing I saw.
Alright the age old question, flip 2 or rg35xxsp
Oh, I don't think it looks good. I just feel bad for whoever that is though. 😬
Retroid is going to have to remove it lol.
Hydrogen bomb vs crying baby
dont like the shape. would've been more interested if it was shaped more like magicx mini m/zero28
or rpmini
Well it is a gba clone
Screen doesn't seem too tiny? RG Arc made me realize how much better a 4 inch screen is than the 3.5" in the 353 series... so I definitely have a mental block to going to something less than 3.5"... and watching all the struggles Loki has had with mainline on h700 has been painful... 34xx does have some fun colors though, so I had considered it for my kids 😅
for GBA?
3.4" is plenty for GBA games imo
Just in general
I'm probably the wrong one to ask, I am loving playing 8 bit systems (pc engine and NES) on my 28xx
when I want a big screen I use my 13" ipad with crt shaders
Yeah, guess you may not need as much the more you go back
I'm just hoping the Flip 2 does a fair job of making 5.5" pocketable
3.4" ain't enough for these aging eyes
THE GBA IS 2.9"
get lasik
And I no longer play GBA on my GBA
Cheaper to buy a console with a larger screen
We still don't have any full flegded reviews, right?
Nope. Production units aren't in the hands of reviewers yet.
Only samples
Okay, thanks
Adin did
Is there usually much difference between samples and retail units?
Irrelevant. Ain't a production unit
just saying it says review so he did
Sometimes no, sometimes yes.
So personally, I don't consider impressions/reviews of samples that relevant.
I was also kinda interested in the rg557 but the discord channel did a fantastic job on killing any excitement lol
Electronics have been removed from tariffs on China
I wonder if this will affect emulation handhelds
What’s wrong with it according to the channel?
Idk if that’s been brought up here
Not being a snapdragon being a sin against humanity or something along those lines
(I'm only half joking hahah)
Ahh, sounds about right
Not all electronics. Just some.
A few folks being whiny fuckwits
Tanning machines are exempt of tariffs i bet
I mean where are basically phones
Same people who believe that any non Hal stick is instant garbage but you can’t make a bad Hal stick even if you try
Someone with more time will hopefully go through it to see if handhelds are covered in the exemptions
I’m trying rn
Or someone with ChatGPT 🤪
Tim Cook is no longer Tim Cooked.
Trump folds again by excluding smartphones, PC monitors, SSDs, processors and other computer related parts.
However, there is NO exception for video game consoles.
Video game consoles are still subject to the tariffs.
FinTwitter (@fintwitter.bsky.social)
*US PUBLISHES TARIFF EXCLUSIONS FOR SPECIFIED PRODUCTS *US TARIFF EXCLUSIONS APPLY TO COMPUTERS, SMARTPHONES *US TARIFF EXCLUSIONS ALSO APPLY TO CHIP-MAKING EQUIPMENT *TARIFF EXCLUSIONS APPLY TO SO-CALLED `RECIPROCAL' TARIFFS
206
I mean, the 557 seemed like a nice thing, but by the way some talk about the dimensity chips it feels like this is userbencmark's community talking about amd
We are so back this time fr
Loophole time
do chinese handheld fall under video game consoles umbrella?
Eh, it makes a bigger deal than people think since most of these emulators are usually optimized for Snapdragon, although I would also agree it’s not “sin against humanity” levels of bad.
Just put a faux microSIM card tray. It's a phone shaped like a handheld!
Like as an example, this is the difference between playing Cyber Sleuth for Vita on Snapdragon vs on the D1100 (or just on chipsets with Mali in general, since it could easily be Mali’s stock drivers causing issues like usual).
Hmmm
Well that's disappointing i guess
Still, i will have an eye on it, they could have improved or something.
It's funny though how much people love the 556 in videos and such but then there's this
More mature/actively developed emulators have less issue, the developers will just workaround issue they found, just like what they do for snapdragon/adreno when problems are found.
Doesn't affect all games as well (or to the same degree) even for newer ones
I imagine is a nuanced thing, but as an outsider seeing such negativity right out of the gate... it's like it's simply broken
Bah, whatever
Now people have tasted dedicated snapdragon handhelds they have a rabid hard on for everything else in the market, they must have snapdragon 😄
But then they complain it's not the odin 2
And after that the odin 2 is not like whatever they feel at that moment
It's a bit draining I must confess hahaha
Sounds like the iPhone effect, “my mom gave me her hand me down iPhone 3 back in the day and that thing was awesome! Listened to so much black eyed peas music on it. Anyway anything that isn’t an iPhone is hot garbage!”
I say as an iPhone user
It could be...
Does seem like the first thing you find or are given that works best is what you stick with later on in life
Well imagine if you tried to listen to music on an android and instead it was extremely low quality and had audio glitches
Whether it be a car or phone brand or handheld processor we all like to pretend we are in the correct group and make odd distinctions
Hey! That was one of my problems when I used android. Everyone kept saying I shouldn’t buy fifty dollar phones and be surprised when they were garbage
The RPFlip2 & I wish you a nice weekend! 😎🍺🎮
are you enjoy it?
Well that'd be a valid reason then, I don't think the d8300 is a bad chip per se, but a snapdragon chip comparable in power is about as close to as objectively better as you can get for emulation
Looks a lot better in this lighting, but boy do I wish the speakers didn't have the copper coloured covering on them, ahaha.
It doesn't bother me that much. 😉
I don't find it bad looking even with the speakers
Now that I see it, you can look at the hinge too
That does look very nice
I'm sure you don't even see them when actually using it, ahaha.
True 😇
Looks like main hinge on the right and support on the left?
And the main hinge is super long to spread pressure which is good.
I mean, if you look anywhere else while playing i don't know what to say hahah
soon enough I'll get my shipping notification
It does look long enough. Translucent models always are interesting to spot these things
Kinda odd that the left side is so short though, weight savings I guess
Just like you can see what the center has, and people wondering why that space was "unused"
Do you think left handed people will break their flip easier?
Not necessarily. I always open my ds systems by pulling from the center, other people might do the same
Depends on habits I'd say
Like a chest or book
I always open from the center. That's cause there's usually a little indent to help open it
Ah, right, there's one on the flip 2
Might just be mental at that point for me. I'm like, there's a cutout. I'm opening there
@sweet rune I'm catching up on the RH podcast and I'm casually hearing that you've been to Shenzhen and actively worked with the Retroid guys, can you share more of that story? I think peps here would appreciate hearing about that
be honest did you find that vase to color match the flip or was it a happy accident
I swear to God man, that plant pot was on every table in that restaurant, the exact color of my ice blue (teal) Flip2... What are the chances? 😅
lmao I believe you
very nice picture!
the ice blue does look lovely in that lighting
Soo in other news, @blazing burrow described the face buttons as quieter than the RP5 and not clacky, but then @stiff depot went on to describe them as clacky and pretty much the same as the RP5, what do we believe 😅
it's simple, believe the guy with the less favorable opinion
also don't trust Stubbs
theres some variation with the membranes
my rp5 is pretty loud but my rpmini is a bunch quieter than most peoples
They are quieter because they have shorter travel, but they are the same buttons.
Where as RP5 has further to go to bottom out, so they will be louder as you push them
Let's wait for his full review, im working on mine as well
I thought ergo was great during my short time in testing before filming but after different scenarios I realize its good sitting at the desk but not good in bed, etc. We find new things as we go.
How about the middle ground, how is it on the couch or a recliner?
Easier to press too right?
I find rp5 sometimes a little hard to press for the buttons for fighting games
Not too bad but the easier the press the better
the real question, how is it when you're sitting on it
cause it seemed like a big problem yesterday
Yes that is right
Summary of thoughts since my first look:
http://youtube.com/post/UgkxqPAhDpZnczlu7deMIwWdTYqhuOjdCfAc?si=Yqo8D-Q0urBEKMqE
Video of that experience I posted in here the other day
Thankfully I find my 3ds and 35xx sp to be pretty comfortable in bed
And I like playing on my side too
Hope it’s a similar experience just with good stick play cuz I don’t dpad a lot
Ive no idea how people play lying down
I usually play in bed but with my back against the frame so Im like half sitting
Yeah, I usually have to be sitting up a bit in bed to be able to use my phone comfortably, let alone my handhelds
This would be like couch play, feels pretty good.
sounds good! thanks!
No never
It's definitely easier with verticals/clamshells. You have to position horizontals weirdly lying on your side to get a good viewing angle.
And your hands are annoyingly spread apart.
It's hard to explain, but I'm sure people who've tried with both know what I mean.
yeah, I can watch stuff on my phone lying down maybe but holding a controller while lying down feels miserable to me
@blazing burrow how much hotter would you say the device gets compared to the 5?
I normally play a lot of ps2/gc upscaled to 3x with no fan standard and had no heat issues if it’s not high end ps2
I only needed fan for high end switch
Feel like small kids are the only people I've seen pull this off comfortably
Even as a kid, it messed with my shoulders after a while
And I was pretty active in the woods and creeks
That's almost exclusively how I play, either laying on my stomach or sitting down
I don't understand how people play lying on their back tbh
Same about, haven't noticed much heat where im gripping. A little on the back right, and direct in the middle of the front.
hey, thanks for sharing, this is a great summary and answers some important questions
it's a pity that this layout is a compromise for dpad centric games that make use of the triggers
I suspected this would be the case coming from the GPD XD
I guess when it comes to clamshells it's one thing or the other, can't have both
Well this layout kind of originates from the Wii u
Glad to help! Yeah for my hands it's a bit of a reach to comfortably use dpad + shoulders for too long. Its not un-usable by any means, just compared to other clams that have dpad further up. YMMV of course.
Has anyone seen a side by side picture of win mini 2024 and RP flip 2?
Thanks a lot for sharing your experience. The biggest news is that the hinge is solid. Adin also did 5000+ opening and closing without seeing issues. The hinge was my biggest concern so it’s really great to see two independent reviewers confirming good longevity of the hinge. I expected that dpad centric gaming won’t be the best on flip 2 so I am not disappointed that it’s not super comfortable. I have other handhelds for those systems so I am fine with that.
For sure! Yeah hinge is giving me zero anxiety, unlike this miyoo flip v2 snes unit that just showed up 😂
They're definitely what I would categorize as "clacky", my wife actually doesn't want to play on it as a result (even though she played on the RP Flip 1 for like a year, she's very inconsistent 😄 ). They sound about the same volume as the RP5 to me. Maybe @blazing burrow' big ole thumbs help dampen the sound? 👀 🙈
ah, right, I always forget than Stubbs hands are absolutely massive
Haha fair point! BUT, they are shorter travel and don't stick out as high as the RP5, so at least how I play, they are quieter to me. I'm using thumbs to test, and then also fingers right now to test just to make sure i'm not crazy.
If I slam on them with one finger they can get pretty clackity, i'll record some examples for my review. #VolumeGate is ON 😂
Go full finger drum kit on them
Does that mean we're past flexgate? Or do we need videos of all the YouTubers finger-pressing a scale to measure their strength followed by more plastic presses? 🤔
we are definitely not past flex gate lol
that probably will only get resolved once people start getting real production units and comment on them
I do wonder if the review units have differences between them, since they are preproduction and all that
Yeah people will need to test for themselves on some of this stuff, we can all show our experience but we need things to actually break and cause true issues in real world
I do not think they would have much time to make any hardware changes between these units and what you all will be getting for batch 1
The only difference I could see is software changes
The hardware is likely the same as batch 1 shipments
But nearly every time you see early reviews from any of us, from any brand, they would usually be considered pre-production
Retroid, Anbernic, AYN, etc
PowKiddy might be an exception
As in all of Powkiddy's units are pre-production and they'll make a mature unit someday? 😜
I mean they do make revisions and changes, but months later
Hmm, so maybe @mystic void’s older video is applying in a more accidental manner for the Flip 2? Where it’s more-so caused by people being used to Anbernic’s firmer buttons that only felt softer due to being membranes?
They revised the X18S like 3 times, and X55 a few times
😂
i made that same video lol
Referencing Russ’s video on the RG35XX SP’s buttons and the test he did with that scale for the last sentence.
Yeah, some of us were trying to keep track of the X55 revisions and there may be at least 4 or 5 or more in the wild now 🤪
I hate how loud the xbox controller is
I do not play like the RP Mini example, but sounds like I should record that sound
ive mentioned before it doesnt help to clack the buttons on an echoey wooden table
it actually makes it louder
Comparing handhelds to full size controller is so weird to me.
Not only are they further away from your your ear, your are also more likely to use them with headsets or full size speakers
I’m mainly wondering since in Russ’s video with the SP, it turned out that the RG35XX buttons with membranes actually were technically even “harder” in a literal sense to press than most other buttons in having more resistance, but due to being membrane vs tactile, they ended up feeling softer to the user.
In which case, if you’re used to something like that, you’re likely gonna actually press harder than you need to for softer membrane buttons.
We need you to clack the buttons on various surfaces for comparison 🤔
now test the xbox vs a xxSP 😄 which everyone comaplined was loud
Maybe I'm weird but I play while watching TV, no volume normally
Too soon to tell to say "BEST" but best clamshell that is pocketable for FPS games? Yes 😆
Everyone's sleeping on Pojav Launcher.
*overall
i have used it, but minecraft in general just EATS battery
It's great on the Mini, but screen being so small is sorta weak.
And also I need grips for it.
I wonder if it has to do with what you're trying to render? It's not a problem for me, but I play 1.7.10 without smooth lighting on fast graphics and a render distance of 10.
i was playing modern versions lol
you know what's tough? trying to find an actual gamepad as quiet as my handhelds
so far best I've found is the OG 8bitdo lite, which has a very soft clickyness like a gba sp
ps4 is pretty quiet
but the lite is both not very ergo and a bit strange
but like the 8bitdo sn30 pro is pretty clacky
the m30 isn't bad
i am so goddamn tired of 8bitdo peddling mushy snes dpads
that sounds clacky but less loud than the RP5 to me
You want clacky, I let my wife get me one of these for my birthday and that thumb thing is more like a d-pad stabbed with a stick, but I think I like it 😎
Haven't used it much yet, but thought it might be fun for PC/dos games that need more buttons
What do you mean? The one I have is not mushy at all
Most of them are.
What about the 8bitdo lite?
I'm sick and tired of retroid peddling vita dpads
Well, that's actually good though.
snes dpads are where it's good
I own this exact controller and love it, use it for retroarch on my ipad pro. I find the ergo is surprisingly decent and love having two sets of buttons and dpads, it's great for shortcuts.
Dpads are nice as well
Sorry if somebody’s asked already, how loud is the fan for you? Somebody mentioned it seemed kinda loud on quiet mode
I think the only sound footage I saw was with the mic pressed right up against the fan grill.
Basically worthless as a test since the fan is on the backside facing away from you, your ears are much further away, and you presumably have game sound playing towards you, ahaha.
Would definitely be nice to have a more realistic sample.
I'll try to capture a better representation in my review, I mainly showed off the Highest setting in my First Look, and I don't think it was easy to hear on the livetream unboxing. As an aside, for these tests, ideally the mic should be at least 6" away pointed at the top vent where the air comes out, instead of the intake area.
But on quiet I don't notice the fan while playing.
Well now, it seems you and mbv1988 are at an impasse…
Let’s drag everyone else into it.
Pick a side everyone.
both are fine
the lite 1 is clicky
not a mushy snes style
no sega option 😦
I'm fine with 8bitdo having some SNES dpads here and there.
actually I changed my mind from idc to SNES, because the glossy plastic D-Pad annoys me since my thumb can't get good traction on the thing
But good ergonomic controllers with clicky dpads seem to be few and far between.
it's my least favourite thing about the steam deck, the glossy D-Pad
I wish it was matt finished like a SNES D-Pad
Deck dpad is nigh unusuable IMO.
it'd be fine if it just had a different texture, and I never see anyone ever mention it so I feel like I'm the crazy one lol
SNES all day every day, I don't get the obsession with the Vita dpads, sure they are precise, but nobody grew up playing games with those
We’re only doing the 2 options for now.
If I had my way, I’d be including the Neo Geo Thumbstick.
Genesis
Either way, I refuse to ever consider rubber membranes as better than tactile, whether it be a clicky d-pad or a digital stick.
I mean it’s all subjective
Cuz like the vita dpad is objectively fine
Just not my cuppa
Yeah no, I just did it because I thought it would be funny.
I’m fine with membrane, even if I do prefer tactile switches in general for this stuff.
But at the same time you can’t exactly do pressure-sensitive buttons with tactile switches (not without literally making them analog and ditching the click), so I’ll definitely be more than fine with giving membranes that praise.
I have the m30 and neogeo cd pads both in front of me right now (both 8bitdo) and I definitely prefer the m30
Alright, looks like we’ve got round 2 everyone.
(/s, in all seriousness we’ve all got preferences for this stuff).
I don't DISLIKE the 8bitdo CD pad, especially the face buttons but the clicky stick is not quite as peak as the m30 dpad for me
Although I will say the NeoGeo CD Pad by 8bitdo is actually an unfair comparison since it’s unironically a lot worse than the actual thumbstick in the original controller. To the point that some people are literally making mods to replace it with a better design.
I've seen a lot of people complain about it and compare to the SNK neogeo pad made for the ps2, but that one (as good as it might be in a vacuum) is nothing like the OG
Like, if I had to make a comparison, it’s essentially like taking the Xbox 360 D-Pad and calling that a Sega Genesis D-Pad.
most reviewers I've seen that are happy with it are comparing against an actual neogeoCD pad and most reviewers I've seen complaining about the long throw etc are comparing against the PS2 one
I think the reality is that the ps2 one is a better controller for fighting games by a mile but that isn't what 8bitdo was cloning
Fair enough on the “what they’re specifically cloning” bit since I’ll admit it’s been a while since I used specifically the CD controller, but even SNK themselves have actually done thumbstick revisions that were better, and that nowadays the thumbsticks for a lot of the original controllers are actually a decent bit worn down on top of the floaty.
But, like I said earlier about mods, they actually have made some that make it feel more like SNK’s later thumbsticks, this is one that I’ve seen recommended more commonly than others.

Vita gang
Genesis still one of my favs. Cube/CubeXX
if I had a resin printer I'd give that a shot
Who will be the first to get a shipping notification?
Drop it in the chat when you do so we can all live vicariously through you.
It would be tomorrow at the earliest I reckon
Honestly this video applies to so many nit picks lol
Snes, easily
Also solid
The absolute best dpad that no one knows about is the one on the gb micro.
Personally, if you like precise, it's GBA sp for me
But you have to like that style. For me though it's soooooooooooo good for precision
A good modern version of the GBA sp is the Xbox series dpad, which I find crazy underrated

Mario Kart Wii Deluxe v9.2 se ...
This looks good!!
Would be fun to play on the flip
I’m so ready to play MK Wii on my Flip 2
Was doing it this weekend with my 360 Hyperkin replica controller on my desktop
When it's 04/13 but no tracking number 🤨🤨🤨
your probly last
Shipping notices are starting!!! 🎉🎉🎉
Insert it’s happening gif
And we have confirmation that people who ordered the bundles are getting shipping notifications for Flip 2 separately
Classic will ship in a few days separately
What color is shipping first? What colors have gotten notices?
Sweet, I ordered GC, but it took me about 9 minutes to order, so not sure how many people beat me 😅
I thought I was 4 minutes but I was actually 34 minutes so I'll hopefully wake up to a tracking number
Or maybe I'm 39 minutes, not sure, but waking up to a tracking number sounds nice!
so it begins
Great to hear pre-orders are getting shipped now. I only got my pre order in a few days ago (decided to wait for first impressions/reviews just to be safe) so I might be waiting a bit
Also looks like screen protetors are now avalible at least on aliexpress
What, already?
"It's not tempered glass, pls note" while having a package saying glass, tempered
Holy moly, i forgot how awful, fake and simply dishonest chinese vendor's pictures can be
I already have tempered glass protectors for the Switch 2 laying around....
If you want a cleaner link, often times everything up to the very first question mark can be deleted
Oh, good to know, thank you!
Seems like it's only plastic film ones for now. Better than nothing. I wonder if the clearance is a bit too slim to allow for a tempered glass one, although the design does look similar to the 2DS XL and that allows a tempered glass protector fine.
What's even better is that the listing title doesn't even reference "tempered glass" on it. I'd imagine they'd get more results if they did, so they're lying without getting any benefit from it
Yup...
I always roll my eyes with how far they try to lie sometimes
Buuut at the same time i kinda enjoy how fake the pictures of protectors are
Knives? Hammers? Freaking Bullets? My god
You forgot to mention how they're all explosion proof
Fellow Ice Blue enjoyer, noice 🧊
Yeah. Hopefully ordering late mine isn't 2 weeks away
The Retroid Pocket Flip 2 is essentially a clamshell version of the popular Retroid Pocket 5. In this video we'll talk about all the good and bad that comes with this form factor, and determine whether this sort of setup would be a good match for your gaming needs.

Regardless of its issues or no issues I'm gonna make do
Don't have the energy level for this hobby to change from trying new stuff monthly to figuring out tarrifs monthly 😆
Starting with "There are a lot of nitpicks" either means there's a lot to be annoyed about or that it's great and that makes the small annoyances more noticeable. 😂
Can also just imply that people like to find stuff to complain about
Especially off the tail of some bad Retroid PR
Nitpicks seems like more subjective issues
That's just what nitpicks are, ahaha.
Still watching, but I took it as a positive sentiment if the concerns are nitpicks.
Yeah. Basically stuff I wouldn't have probably even noticed if there wasn't so much conversation over it
I mean he has said before he nitpicks/has nitpicks that are relatively minor with other devices. It isn't unique to this video.
I'll save you the time. It's hot garbage and you should send it to me at zero cost
( X ) Doubt 🤔
Well I tried
Glad to see these are shipping. Hopefully I get notified in the next few days that my classic/flip budle ships. Now we get to see just how chaotic shipping is with the cheeto in chief changing things on the daily with no pushback from the government.
that's why you gotta get a snack and a drink
At the controls section and my takeaway is everything should be Steam Deck style with all controls on the same plane, ahaha.
that would require a lot of moving around the internal parts
like, I get you, but I don't think it's a simple change
Sorta yes/no, there's already buttons on the same plane.
To be fair. I totally agree with that statement. Would make it wider maybe, but I'd take it
Like, move the start/select/home/back buttons elsewhere and put dpad/abxy there.
Honestly on a clam you should be a way to do it tho. Usually you're restricted by the screen
Deck is one of the best layouts out there imo. If you do a lot of dpad/stick crossplay
The lid design is one of his nitpicks.
One of us, one of us.
I haven't tried a steamdeck that much, but I don't know how I'd feel about having two inputs side to side
having them on a diagonal like most controllers feels more natural to em
It's the most confortable layout side by side.
Controllers also give you big ass nubs to hold onto
It eliminates the reach to shoulders.
Yeah. Whether you dpad or stick shoulders are in same place
On my portal I actually shift my left hand down to like grab the corner for dpad. Then have to reach more for L1
Moving your thumb left/right is easier too rather than rotating your thumb for offset layout.
Like, it's very minor, but depending on game and play session length it becomes noticeable.
I don't know... I don't have a steamdeck to compare right now
maybe it's time to stop putting triggers on the top of these consoles and try do something akin to those GB styles ones with the triggers lol
Yeah. Our Lord and Savior Gabe did a pretty good job
Like I think that's the coolest thing about it. You pick it up and you're like, ok, this all makes sense 😆
Hoping SD2 isn't too many decades from now
Everyone was so confused when they revealed images/video.
And then you pick it up and it's like...oh, everything makes sense.
Yeah. Valve does a good job of not working within a vacuum
time for my snack
Honestly shocked more makers haven't outright copied the layout yet. But it does make everything wider. Well except for clams. Clams would be a good place to do it
the part with comparisons with the rp5 on controls, it really feels like the sticks being right below look pretty uncomfortable
Clams should definitely default to that layout with maybe a touchpad on the bottom to fill out space if desired.
Would be awesome. Especially for things that could run a Linux desktop. Little less concerned for touchpads if touchscreen
Any controls that are on the very bottom of a handheld/controller are miserable to use.
that's if they have they actually have free space to use, like the centre of the flip 2 already has stuff in it
Yeah. But you could move it around
i wasn't talking about the buttons
They probably copy and pasted a fair amount of the RP5 PCB layout
Which I mean was a banger for them. So I can't blame them
If anything, the internal layout of the Flip 2 is a bit confusing.
The RP5 runs the same hardware in a thinner device with a screen on top of most of the internals.
what a whacky fun (frustrating) game
There was definitely a better way to lay out the Flip 2 internals.
Usually your playing with the same central board and just moving components around. Moving that central board somewhere else for more comfortable controls would probably require more work
Aw yeah, Bow and Arrow Boy.
I think a fair amount of the bottom is empty tho, if the anti-flexers are to be trusted
Honestly I'm happy there's a little more thickness. If anything the thinness of the RP5 meant the ergo grips were kind of pointless
I think the thickness is a net positive myself for comfort, but the Flip 3 better have a Steam Deck layout
Yeah. Or we burn Retroid down
Cant wait for lunch time to watch
I'd be pretty stoked if the Steam Deck 2 was a clamshell.
thinking about it, I don't find the circle pad and dpad annoying to move between on my n2dsxl, but it looks different enough to the rp5, for starters the n2ds stick is much less tall so swapping is simpler
Would mitigate the super wideness that the Steam Deck layout causes.
yeah, the size of the deck is one of the aspects doesn't really talk to me
Clamshell is subjective, horizontal sells better and has less hinge RMAs. I bet all my handhelds they'll never do it
I don't see them doing it either
Yeah. It's def a coucher. I mean best coucher out there
A handheld from someone else that flips and runs steam OS might be endgame for me tho
Honestly, if they just use laptop style hinges I don't think it'd be an issue.
I've been tempted. Bazzite is pretty awesome. I just feel so at home on steam tho. The configuration layouts and everything
SD is already a chunky boi.
Actually, how thick is it compared to the Win Mini?
Bazzite is like a clone xD
A lot of steam deck chunky is the grips. Which I like. No touchy
looking at the DS gameplay on the flip... I have to admit, maybe it's better on a "candybar" design, where you could maybe reach the touchscreen for specific inputs
The Wini Mini is half the thickness of the Steam Deck 😂
Yeah. But it's kinda like going from stock android to Motorola skin. Like 95% of it is identical. But they move that one setting and you're like, mother fuckers!
Win Mini is less comfy to hold too
Just double the thickness with a grip and we're golden.
Yeah. Kinda funny that single screen clams are not the best for DS gaming.
it is
Ultimately, if they did go with a clamshell design I'm sure they'd make it work.
And if they couldn't they wouldn't go clamshell, ahaha.
At least not for anything that requires touchscreen in a meaningful manner.
Right now, because I let my duo go, my best DS is probably my portal, just cause of screen realestate
Ah, why'd you give up the Duo?
It just wasn't as portable with telescope as I'd have liked
Like it was doable. But just felt like a lot of setup, breakdown. Def still the best DS experience right now
Telescopic is just never the portable option I find.
Just the act of setting it up removes the desire to pull it out.
Haha. True. Some people are totally happy with telescope and phone. I could just never do it on the regular. But yeah. Setting it up next to the couch for couch play isn't a bad idea. I just have to many couch play devices
Yeah, portable to me means more EDC rather than long trips. If I can't easily pull it out for something quick it doesn't work for me.
RG353M with a flip cover has been my go to.
Hoping the Flip 2 can replace that.
Yeah hoping between the flip and classic I can settle on a great EDCer
EDC?
Every Day Carry
oh
Yeah. It's a heavily US obsession. Birthed from our love of carrying guns everywhere I think
I mean, as a kid I did bring my gbc/gba everywhere and such
nowadays I'd only take a console out if I know I'll have some time to play it
GBA then DS then 3DS
Now there's a whole market of pouches, doodads, tools, soldering irons, etc.
Also in my pocket.
like to a friends house during downtime, or I go to a quite place
We've been known to infect others with our desire to buy more crap
but for everyday going to work and such? yeah no, I rather use my phone and read stuff
Yeah. See. I always have my miyoo mini on me. Stuck waiting for an appointment, gaming. Stuck waiting for a food order, gaming. I won't tell you what "other people" do on the toilet... But it's probably gaming
but I've always liked portable consoles because things like playing on bed or when in someone else's house, or in the couch while others watch tv, or... just he idea of being able to play games anywhere I'm able to, the very idea of having games I can access without anything beyond the device itself, no plugs, no displays and such is great
Yeah. Makes sense. There's like 4 categories. Couch, couch+ (taking it around the house), EDC, and EDC+ (can fit in speedo if needed, take always in case of emergency)
Nothing on the don't like list bothers me. Let's goooo
I'd put something between couch+ and edc myself, which is where I'd be. Taking them out to some places I know I'll have the time to play and can transport them with relative care
regardless, each person has their own way
the loud thing i guess it depends on what you play right? like, 8-16 bit games wouldn't cause the fan to spin much, if at all right?
I will wait to see how the 557 ends up and will make my choice...
fun video
I didn't mind the SP at all, can't be louder than that
Wasn't even about the fan. It was more the buttons, ahaha.
But during his fan test when he swapped to low you couldn't even hear it.
ah right
the clicky button stuff
sorry
you know, i pretty much always play with earphones so the sound controllers make is not something I tend to pay attention unless it's extreme
like, I can notice it when trying them at first of course
I am a lil’ more concerned for the fan than the buttons. Somebody mentioned it seemed loud on quiet mode on theirs, idk if it was their unit specifically or if it’s just gonna sound loud for all units, or of it’ll need an update
Need more real world opinions basically.
I feel like in real world situations it shoooould be fine?
But we'll find out soon enough.
I’d rather hear some voluntary clacks from the buttons than:
eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
I'm curious if there's even a worthwhile performance gain from using performance mode.
Using a fan I feel like definitely has to expand the lifespan of the battery. I feel like one of the reason people get spicy pillows is from pushing their device to crazy limits while charging their device and letting it heat up
I almost always set stuff to low and rely on fan curves
In this video we test out RETRONIX on the Retroid Pocket Flip 2 and this new handheld runs Xbox and PS3 Emulation! Playing Halo 2 on an arm based handheld is pretty awesome for sure! RetroNIX is a Linux OS that runs from an SD Card allowing the Retroid Pocket Flip 2 and Pocket 5 to runs emualtos like XEMU, RPCS3 and may many more!
Buy the Retr...
Even on my pocket DMG. I get equivalent performance just letting the curve do its thing. That said it's had multiple updates to get that curve right. Who knows what the flip 2s curve is
Def loading rocknix
One of the main reasons to go for the SD865 version.
ugh if I have to deal with fan noise I expect to be getting the capabilities of a full PC out of it.
I don't have to deal with that on my RP5
hopefully they can fix the curve or something
No dice for me. Happy these things are getting out the door though!
Nice to see the cons list consists of items that you have to stretch to come up with.
Yeah, like here you can't hear any fan noise during any gameplay clips.
It makes me wonder what people think of the original hardware like n3dsxl and switch now if they go for reviews like the retro handhelds. I feel we are so spoiled and always nitpicking
I am sure most Nintendo hardware will get poor reviews in terms of ergonomics
And screen
Buttons are pretty loud as well.
...i have to agree that after spending some time reading people, some seem really, really demanding
like sure, it happens on any community, pc gaming, home consoles, etc
but it seems like there's people expecting build quality of high end phones with performance of four digit computers for a fraction of the price of those
I don't know if I am missing something, because seeing these small devices that let you play decades of games and you can take with you feels like an unreachable dream looking back 20 years ago with the gba
like sure, some devices won't be as well designed as others, but it seems to go beyond that
Flip 3 when?
people have gotten spoiled over last couple of years and now the entitlement is strong 😄
...I suppose it's that
man, the obsessive arms race towards power really ruins everything, lol
I'm largely joking, i just find it all funny 😄
Well, sometimes it's the lack of power difference that causes the extra criticism
Like, using well established old chips but completely flopping on the other details.
Looking at you Miyoo Flip.
I for one, do not want “high end phone” build quality. Cuz that mean fragile ass glass font and back plus planned obsolescence.
No thank you
neither do I
Aluminum+plastic >>>>>> glass
Also people don’t mention in reviews, this is currently p much the only choice you have to play PS2/GC in a clamshell. Literally only mid-tier/powerful oled clamshell on the market
That’s the reason I never bought the 5
almost as if miyoo was a one trick fluke 😄
Basically, the more similar competition there is the more critical people are.
right, the rp5 has that glass covering the entire front
Yeah that’s a huge no from me
If they made a 4s with a 865 in the RP4 body I’d snatch that up
Or at least an RP4 like body
I love the design of RP5, more than RP Flip2 but the premium looking with glass front would makes me nervous playing it.
I agree with the conclusion of Russ. Clamshell devices just gets more play time and for busy adults with kids like me, more play time is the top priority
I don't mind it. but I have to be more than normally careful
But that's why I'm buying a classic
Gonna throw that thing down stairs
I feel like I would lean more towards an Odin 2 (not the portal) than RP5 because of that. I wouldn’t worry as much about breaking it, and just more robust overall.
Eh, I wouldn’t like Plastic for a handheld’s lens since it just makes it more prone to scratching on top of also still being fully capable of cracking (since the more resistant to cracking you make plastic, the more prone to scratches it usually becomes, and then the vice versa).
Now, this doesn’t mean I wouldn’t also prefer the glass to only be the lens and not the full front of the device, but I’d still prefer glass.
Almost requires a case to not break…
yep...
For phones I don't even care about how it looks since I always use a case with them, ahaha.
I'd prefer glass for the screen cuz that's more resistant to scratches
it feels completely pointless to me, it's more fragile, doesn't necessarily make it look cooler
I know some people go caseless, but I would just be stressed out all the time…
it looks gaudy
"LIMITED TIME COLOUR!" Yeah, case covers it, don't care. 😅
I use a case just because I don't want to also carry a wallet.
If it was indestructible I like the look. But it's not. So I case. Heh
beautiful
Personally I'd be happy going back to plastic everything
Oof…total loss at that point
Glass backs are the stupidest thing ever
isn't just more expensive, it's also more dangerous when you try to pick it up after falling
pixel 5 was peak phone design
How is that thing even booting on.
aluminum coated in plastic
let's all go back to wood grain
it was practically indestructible
dropped my pixel 5 on concrete all the time without a case and it lived for years
Samsung Galaxy Nexus for me. Even had the removable/replaceable battery
i think pixel 5 could do that too but i dont remember
Had a plastic slide phone as a teenager and probably dropped it 50 times, totally fine
Was basically an old school Nokia with how I treated it too
Getting slivers just looking at it
Yeah, I wish there were more study phones since almost everyone uses a case anyway.
mmm i love inhaling microscopic glass shards
i mean, it's genius for the corporations. Easier to break, more you sell I guess
Aesthetically pleasing naked phones matter for all of 3 seconds before they get cased.
Dude. The glass shards from these are like deadly too
Oohh, Ahh, look how shiny it is - and then you forget
Cracked one once and brushed a finger. Took forever to get it out
The other day I cleaned my phone and I forgot the color of its backside
Could use a CAT phone
If you built it without the need for a case there would be space for microsd slots and 3.5mm jacks
ulefone makes sturdy shit
I do like using a case in general though. The option for wallet cases and stuff is nice.
Or cases with card slots
Flip cases if you want bare screen but still have screen protection in pocket.
Mine has some grooves on the back too, so it’s more comfortable and easier to hold
What if you could put your credit card on the phone and have it beam the info to pay without any need for carrying credit cards?
I have flip case myself, i protect both sides and can carry a couple things on the front, like the card for public transport
Ahaha, I use phone tap most of the time, but sometimes I need the physical card for large purchases or just bank usage.
Nice for ID and licenses too.
I just get worried about losing my phone and license with it…
Losing the all these together you don’t exist in the world
No money no ID can’t contact anyone
I'm more likely to forget my wallet if it's a seperate thing to keep track of personally.
I hate carrying my wallet anywhere
It has a spot in the car and at home and will only go in my pocket if I'm going into the store to buy stuff
Yeah, I have to keep it in the same place in my bag to not forget it
Once I discovered how much more comfortable not sitting on a wallet was all the time it was over
Apparently shipping has started
Like, I'm constantly keeping track of my phone either from physically using it or just having a hand in the pocket.
If for whatever reason I lose it it'd be easier to figure out when I lost it.
I guess there is also find my iPhone, which is helpful…
Have you had to replace the battery at all?
not yet but it's about that time
And do they beep if you need to find them? Like make a sound?
yup
That’s actually super nice
Ooooh yeah it has the arrow and the distance measure thing. I think I remember seeing ads for it
yup
wonder if in a months time we'll start off a new retroidgate 😄
Doesn't get tiresome to have constantly new devices appear?
Like, if I am geting one, I kinda want to go away and just play and in a few years look again what is new.
Or that's my plan lol
I’ve been waiting forever for this device specifically
I can understand, clamshells are not common
Not even j that, reliable pocketable gamecube
