It’s why I legit agree with the “reverse ETA” take, ETA is legit pretty great as a tech demo for showing what a device can do, but he’s not a good reviewer in terms of giving critiques. Joey’s the opposite in that I do find he gives some of the best criticisms for devices, but then he (more often than he should) just keeps going into stuff that outright feels way too nitpicky to make much sense, while also not often offering up as good of a review on the positive side of things. It’s why nowadays I usually do prefer Rob’s stuff. The guy knows his stuff and can legit push this stuff while also still showing it in a way that helps end-users understand how to actually get the same results he gets (instead of, you know, just showing the absolute most you can push the thing and then never actually explaining what he “did differently”).

I don’t find the screen small because it’s bigger than most budget handheld. But the resolution is low and so it doesn’t give a lot of flexibility for scaling. Integer scaling ends up with small image, non-integer scaling looks awful. Also the display is in general inferior to many new retro handhelds.

In full disclosure the Mali drivers leave quite a bit of overhead unused, as this theoretically has enough power to push for 6x with something like MK Double Dash!!, but you wouldn't want to do that in reality, as gameplay only runs in the 50fps range and loading the course/victory screen dips even further, the SD8sGen3 which on paper is basically on par with this meanwhile does 6x (but heats up like a bitch)...

So yeah, it will outperform the RP5 up to PS2 and with Android games, but I would only expect the performance on WiiU/Switch and Winlator to be similar or only ever so slightly better
