Update on Flip 2: i'm testing around the house and on errands to see if this can be my daily driver. I'll be making a follow-up 1 week review. I'm aiming to have that ready for Monday.

Stray thoughts for now:
Ergonomics while lying down (on my back) are not as comfortable as when playing sitting up, annoying to reach shoulder buttons while lying down for my hands. However, standby battery drain is excellent. 1% drain overnight (8 hours) from 49% to 48%.

That's what I was testing last night after filming that, played Twisted Metal 2 for about an hour and it felt fine while lying down until I needed to use the shoulders then it started to become crampy and annoying while on my back after 15 minutes or so. On my side is better. Sitting up is much better, like how I had it while filming my first look.

Moving back to my GPD XD and how they had the inline shoulders, that makes it more comfy for playing my on my back (but you lose the nice analog triggers)

So yeah, there are some trade-offs going with this Clamshell form factor over something like the RP Mini or RP5, but you do gain portability and durability, I do not baby this thing AT ALL

So far no scuffs, scratches or issues from all my stress testing

Which is the most comfortable and functional android clamshell for me, lasted 10 years so far, but its performance limitations are reallllly starting to show these days. You basically have a clamshell 3326 type experience. It hurts my soul.

yeah I think shorter might actually be better in this scenario though as I watch the footage back here from the cod warzone testing in the livestream, a longer thumb might find pushing the A button while using the joysticks and shoulders more taxing as you fold your thumb into a funny angle (while playing at a desk).

Yeah. Yeah. You can do it by tweaking android to make that activation area larger, but then you have to deal with accidental swiping down when your trying to just push something

Happens with side swiping on my pocket DMG. Default android makes those areas bigger on the side of your phone, because you're usually not swiping that much. But stock won't have it scaled for the display. So sometimes I'll try to click a setting near the left or right edge, and it'll trigger it as a nav back instead.

Can solve it by just using nav buttons on the bottom and turning off the gestures. I'll probably do that at some point

Hey y’all, I ordered a Retroid Classic but am having a little bit of buyer’s.. doubt? Not quite remorse, but, looking at the Flip 2.. has me wondering if I should try to switch my order while there’s still time.. curious for any thoughts you might have? Lemme know if I should put this somewhere else, just figured I would drop it in the chats of the 2 relevant handhelds to see what people interested in each think ^-^

Most important things to me are pocketability + ergonomics, while I have flexibility regarding performance (more is of course better, but I would say most of my games are d-pad oriented aside from 5th gen RPGs, 6th an added bonus; interested in winlator but willing to settle for for smaller indie stuff like UFO 50). Some level of price sensitivity but as long as we’re under $300 I’m willing to weigh options.

Notes on ergonomics - I’ve got a New 3ds on loan from a friend (smaller size, not the XL) and for me it’s a mess - thumbs have to curl in oddly; pinkies forced to brace most of the weight or my fingers end up awkwardly curved around the back. On the other hand, I had and am selling a steam deck, because it’s too big and heavy, fingers can reach the sticks but not quite comfortably.
